3:27 Keyword being "escape." Escape from the real world and its struggles. And most shows today, CW shows firmly included, pull the viewer right back out and have to remind the viewer of the real world through social and political references that aren't even cleverly subtle or just analogous, but which are meant to hit the viewer over the head to get the pandering message across. Most directors and writers today use characters as mouthpieces, giving them lines, things to say they shouldn't/wouldn't otherwise, that sometimes don't even fit the context of their fictional world, but are shoehorned in so they, the writers, producers and directors could virtue-signal through them and the shows suffer because of it. And yet, because the woke crowd laps it all up, even though they still only represent a minority, they make enough noise that the writers believe they're doing a good job and so they'll keep politicizing and pandering and tokenizing, ruining entertainment for the majority without even realizing it.
