Whether you are a TS fan or not, you have to be highly impressed at the talent both as a singer and songwriter she possesses....along with her versatility. She continues to reinvent herself across genres...pretty dang amazing. She is a lyrical mastermind...from deep and insightful to downright goofy at times. Watch any interview she's given and you will see what a kind, comical, respectful and well spoken woman she is as well. A class act on all accounts. 🙂

for more context, county genre was becoming a dying genre at the time. Typically, people who listens to country are adult-old men/women. then she an upcoming artist popularized it for the teen- pre adult audiences listening to country music at the time.

@@GEMINICHAI I'm literally quoting from my music class back in high school where our topic was country music. My teacher literally read that she popularized country music. and she did. at the time when she started, country music was dying especially on the younger audiences. She revived it and even brought it outside of the US. Facts are facts, sorry to break it to you.

@@kristangrande8338 She... really didn't. Idk where they got that fact but it's 100% incorrect. Shania Twain, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Faith Hill, Garth Brooks, Toby Keith, George Strait... all of them extended into the 2000s and were far more popular, even with people my age (I'm only a few years younger than Taylor). Country isn't, and has never been, big in the cities. But in rural areas you can reliably find 3 or 4 country stations to flip between no matter when it was.
She wasn't even responsible for the shift to pop country - country has been genre mixing for a long time, and Shania and Alan Jackson did it first. I loved her music back in the day, don't get me wrong, but she really blew up when she moved towards pop. Her country audience stayed pretty constant with where the genre already was, and her concerts weren't nearly the size they are now. (Then again, she's grown a ton as a performer too!)
Honestly wondering if your teacher isn't getting Shania and Taylor mixed up, considering a lot of her country albums released alternate "party" versions and hit it big in other countries.

awesome reaction! Folklore is the eighth studio album by Taylor that was released during covid. There isn't a song called Folklore, it's just the album title. Based off of your previous reactions it seems like you like the ones with stronger beats so I'm not sure if it would be your taste. The lead single off Folklore is "Cardigan" and then you could react to the song "Wlllow" after since the music video is a continuation of Cardigan. Regardless, love the content and Taylor is DEFINETLY versatile!

Another interesting choice. The video is a cute video. But. People normally watch her live version at the Grammys, which kinda recreates this video partly. She’s very young here. The song was written about a reporter/columnist that gave her a bad review after hearing her sing with Stevie Nicks. This song was her response to him. She proceeded to win two Grammys for this song & performed it at the Grammy awards. She played the banjo while singing it and pretty much sang directly to the camera and added her then teenage sass to the performance and to the end of the performance that received a standing ovation. The columnists’ response to knowing she wrote the song about him was “I just wish it was a better song”.
Folklore is indie/alternative music which isn’t country but indie music. Folklore and Evermore are two albums in this kinda folky/indie/alt-pop thing. In 2020, her concert tour was canceled do to pandemic. So she called up Aaron Dessner of the National & asked if he wanted to collaborate on an album while in lockdown, but remotely. She wrote, produced & released folklore in 3.5 months while in lockdown, and followed that up 5 mos later with evermore. Folklore won AOTY. But it’s folky. It’s lyrical. My Tears Ricochet was the first song she wrote for the album. Exile with Bon Iver is a good one to try as well. August is a fan favorite & Cardigan is the music video. She also made folklore into a documentary that she directed & is on Disney Plus. I’ll suggest this is me trying. And the monologue explaining the song.

Folklore is the grey album with her in the forest. She created a love triangle between three characters she made up “Betty”, “James”, and “August”. She also bought a beach house in Rhode Island and wrote a song about the previous owners Rebecca & Bill. The song is called “The Last Great American Dynasty.” In “Epiphany” she gave a shout out to her WW2 veteran grandfather and the doctors and nurses who worked endlessly through the pandemic.

@@TripTipsPodcast oh, no problem most of the songs on folklore and evermore are about other people and other situations that she’s observed in her life or just completely made up stories she’s written Betty tells a story of a highschooler name, James, who’s caught in a love triangle between Betty and August and there’s another character named Inez. Those names actually belong to real people in real life and those are the names of Ryan Reynolds and Blake lively’s children. Their oldest daughter, James was actually featured in a song on Taylor‘s reputation album called “Gorgeous” in the opening credits and according to Ryan, he said in a recent interview, their kids don’t see Taylor as this big pop star they see her as auntie Taylor. Taylor helped reveal the name of the couples 3rd child Ryan Blake lively’s way of sharing the name of their youngest daughter with the world and Blake I believe has just had or is about to have their fourth child. She was pregnant about four months long when she attended the Met gala 2022.

Nope, folklore and evermore are …they are two studio albums that were released as surprises during quarantine. The primary collaborator is Aaron Dessner from The National. So if you’re familiar with that band, it’s kinda similar - it’s indie rock. The other guest vocalist on the albums is Bon Iver. Based on your reactions to her videos so far, I don’t think most of either album will be to your liking - the don’t have a lot of hard driving beats. They’re beautiful, haunting, lyrical albums and unlike her previous music, are not grounded in her life (or her friends). They’re songs she wrote after watching movies in quarantine, or because she wanted to try her hand at murder ballads or telling one story from multiple perspectives.
If you want to dip your toes into that era of her music, try the song Renegade by Big Red Machine featuring Taylor Swift. (Big Red Machine is Aaron Dessner and Bon Iver.) If you like that, then you’ll like at least some of folklore and evermore.

This song is from her 3rd album called speak now (Taylor’s Version of Speak Now is coming out in July).
She’s always written all her own music, mostly without cowrites, but after the success of her second album (AOTY at the Grammy’s), the critics just couldn’t fathom that a teenager could hold her own weight in a writing session…so she wrote Speak Now sans any co-write. @@TripTipsPodcast I think after you get thru the catchier songs on 1989 and Reputation you will actually like a couple of the songs off folklore - in particular, you two strike me as people who might really like murder ballads. If you’re not familiar with the genre, well, are there a lot of reaction videos for you. 😉 Springsteen’s Badlands is a murder ballad; Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds have an entire album called Murder Ballads; I Hung My Head by Johnny Cash (written by Sting!) is also a murder ballad. No Body, No Crime is a bit more like Goodbye Earl by The Chicks or Pretty Little One by Steve Martin (yes that Steve Martin) and the Steep Canyon Rangers with Edie Brickell.
Another benefit to No Body, No Crime - or much of folklore and evermore - is that they are lyric videos, so you won’t have to interpret the video and lyrics at the same time. You can just focus on the song. 😉
But I do agree that most of the two albums won’t be your cuppa’tea.
