You are a great friend and supporter, Barry. You deserve the same in return. Thank you for your clean videos, friendly spirit, and steady hand. Keep the Wind at your back, and Shaddie underfoot!
Most sailing channels I watch I watch for the repair/technical stuff. You I watch because of you. Maybe because I’m about your age. I hope you don’t mind me living vicariously through you.
Thought you might enjoy this. A waters inspector stopped at our farm yesterday, he said “I need to inspect your farm for water quality.” I said “Okay, but don’t go in that field over there.” The waters inspector verbally exploded saying, “Mister, I have the authority of the NZ Government with me!” Reaching into his rear pants pocket, the arrogant inspector removed his badge and shoved it in my face. “See this badge?! This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish…. On any land !! No questions asked or answers given!! Have I made myself clear?…. do you understand?!!” I nodded politely, apologized, and went about my chores. A short time later, I heard loud screams, looked up, and saw the inspector running for his life, being chased by my big old mean bull…. With every step the bull was gaining ground on the inspector, and it seemed likely that he’d sure enough get gored before he reached safety. The inspector was clearly terrified. I threw down my tools, ran to the fence and yelled at the top of my lungs “Your badge, show him your BADGE!!”
“Nice to be at sea”…yep…I absolutely loved the dolphins. The restoration of the boat was “Wow” a beautiful job done. I still think Shaddie is the best though. Thank you for another fabulous video!
If those sneaky people gave you a sense of foreboding and dread, and were wearing a face diaper, I'd hightail it out of there! ...far away from Australia. When I was a child, my bicycle kept losing it's chain. Though you may not be able to 'see' a worn-out chain, get a new one if it keeps falling off. No more banging your knee on the handle bars! 😂 I remember I used to sew-up my old worn-out bicycle tires with 20lb fishing line. 😂 Great video, Sea Dog!
Always a good day when we get news from the Old Dog. Mighty fine seeing you out on a boat in deep water for a change, and I could tell it affected you that way as well. Good work, mate.
Barry-Your videos are a love letter to adventure and a life well lived. Just finished watching from episode 1 to present day for the second time and enjoyed it more than the first! Thanks for all you do. Keep being you. Cheers mate!
Gday Barry, How dare those sneaky chaps in the TURD PATROL check up on the Old Sea Log ,, ooppps I did mean Sea Dog Barry . Besides,,, all Barry's movements have been well documented if you want to watch them . Respect from OZ
Biggest advantage to boom reefing is that it keeps the weight of the main (especially in the wet) down lower compared to having all the weight going up the mast. As Carl says, its important to have the book at 90 degrees to the mast when furling/unfurling.
Another great video Barry! I have not missed a video from the very beginning of your adventure. I even have all your videos saved and I have watched them all multiple times even if the internet is down. I guess I am a bit of a fanatic. Thank you and keep the videos coming!
When I lived in France in Cannes, there was a lovely and popular beach just next to a small marina, it was a great place to go swimming but on occasions the smell of human waste in the water drifting out from the marina was over-powering. Let's not forget it is totally illegal to flush a sea toilet or flush your black water tank within 3 miles of land...and sometimes more. So fair play to Mr Sneaky for doing his job!
Beautiful boat, the boom should be at 90 degrees to the mast, for easy deployment and reefing. One owner I talked with said that until he got that straight, it was a bit of tough going.
Wow that's a LOT of work on Vesper - not least of which was removal of the teak decks and the resulting deck repair and paint prep it would have needed.
Gulf Harbour used to be great until it got too expensive, but great access to the Hauraki gulf. You sailed past Tiri Tiri Matangi island if you ever get the chance you should go ashore there to see the birds it never fails to amaze. trick is to sit in the bush section absolutely still and silent for 10min and the birds will come to you some of the rarest and most beautiful in the world.
Yess Barry, its a great privilege to talk with doplhins. Mother Nature says it all. By the way, rolling furling boom is one of my dreams...fantastic option, expecially for solo sailors, even if terribly expensive. Fair Winds ;-)
Another great video..cheers. Have you considered a polarising filter, i think it would occasionally be well worth it..just a cheap one held at the right angle over the lens..
In-Boom furling is actually awesome as the center of gravity is quite low and you dont have any hassle to flake the sail. Tom Cunliffe just did a YT-film about it.
Another big advantage of in-boom furling, over in-mast furling,, is that if the in-mast furler jams, you have a big problem (usually at the worst time) whereas if the in-boom furler hangs up, you can still pull the main down by hand onto the deck and wrap it up.
hi its from burnley i have been watching your fore for a long time it good to see what you see at sea and on land hall the best to you pal HARRY FROM BURNLEY all the best to you
well Barry after watching all your videos its a bit of a thrill to see you sailing in my stomping ground, hope you enjoyed the gulf and some of east coast ..cheers Mike Harwood
The USA is crazy about water turds & soap as well. One thing is for boats to start the engine up and put them in gear and help the water move on out during whichever movement that is moving water out of the slips . Best at night !
You have inspired me to one day get a sailboat and sail around the world. I love seing that you have uploaded knowing i will have a good video to watch. Stay safe lad and enjoy life.
I used to keep my yacht at Half Moon Bay and sail over to Waiheke via a night in 'drunken bay' - Izzy bay then round the island and back - with the dolphins on our bow wave! Happy days!
I find a camelback brand cycling water bottle is the best way to control your water to shower while camping. You squirt out just what you need and get proper coverage. One bottle is enough or 2 if you have long hair to wash.
for your younger follower wondering about thoughts of dolphins alongside a boat...I believe there is a pressure wave in front of a vessel and they actually surf under water ?? and a tangle of ropes I call a 'rats' nest ..cheers
You mean there are other ways of furling a mainsail. I just press the button and up it goes. Push the button and there are 5 reefing points available. No miserable sail bags and lazy jacks. No need to leave the cockpit to reef or anything. Once we had a riding turn in the spool and the sail was just dropped down manually. And remember, don't poop in the marina. Here's a tip if you are coming to Australia. Make sure you have a new shore power line or get the old one tested and tagged. That might save you a $250 fine.
The reason for the strongly enforcemed environmental legislation is that because of farm fertiliser and other run off. Some of the country's rivers and inland wet areas are extremely toxic. Enough to make you very ill if you swam in them. In some cases, toxic enough to kill or permanently disable you, if not treated immediately. This came about because the historically strong farm lobby, bought enough politicians to prevent legislation and enforcement for decades. So, the country is playing catchup. Incidentally, your mate did a fantastic job of his refit. Looks like a new boat. Did he refit / modernise internally? I find guys often omit this. Leaving a boat looking new on the outside and very worn on the inside. Great video Barry. Thank you :)
Here in Puget Sound region of Washington State, USA, we have similar problems from runoff: dairy farms and farm fertilizer, surface runoff, etc. Boats have to have "black water" tanks that are pumped out. The pollution has led to loss of salmon, which feeds our resident Orca; they could go extinct as a result.
Sunshine, rain. Sunshine, rain. Bit like Donegal - 4 seasons in one day :-) (apposite given the Finn brothers are from NZ) Great vid Barry, as per usual
Great to see you visiting my local marina at Gulf Harbour - although you weren’t on my pier by the look of it. You were also in my local store & beer fridge - so I’m happy to see you didn’t empty it out! 😊 When was this filmed? Because I thought I saw someone like you a few months ago but I ruled it out because I assumed you were up north…
Barry you have lead a sheltered life. All the modern mega yachts you see in magazines have hydraulically powered in boom furling.
Electrics hydraulics all fail and break on a boat. Simple is better.
don't shit in the water Barry 😂😂😂🏴☠️
Two old Seadogs in this episode then :)
The dolphins 🐬 🐬 🐬 look like a wonderful sign.
Used to SCUBA in docks doing zinks, props etc. watch turds float by. Was young and healthy. For sure somebody has the tank open
Barry, you didn't look at all guilty when the poo police came calling, honest! 🤭😂
You are a great friend and supporter, Barry. You deserve the same in return. Thank you for your clean videos, friendly spirit, and steady hand. Keep the Wind at your back, and Shaddie underfoot!
You don't want the wind at your back that's the most uncomfortable sail. Off the beam is better
Smooth sailing ⛵, great experience
Most sailing channels I watch I watch for the repair/technical stuff. You I watch because of you. Maybe because I’m about your age. I hope you don’t mind me living vicariously through you.
I watched this while I cooked and did the dishes. Thanks for the distraction
The best of sailing companions those dolphins!
Thought you might enjoy this.

Hope the bull was alright!!
I love the story
Thank you Barry, Dolphins
OMG that refit is BEAUTIFUL! Great job Brian! Thanks for another great video Seadog.
Barry's guilty face 😀
No.
Great boat.
Very jealous.
Love the boom reefing.
Horizontal anchor winch = Windlass. Vertical winch= Capstan.
Cheers Ian
“Nice to be at sea”…yep…I absolutely loved the dolphins. The restoration of the boat was “Wow” a beautiful job done. I still think Shaddie is the best though. Thank you for another fabulous video!
I stumbled upon you’re videos a year and a half ago and myself, my wife and my children all love you and what you do. Stay safe and have fun!!!
Good delivery !

Thanks Berry, loved the dolphins 😊
Love you show Barry you're the best
Still Spring Barry. Summer is a lot better!
Refit is beautiful.
I've just realised something Barry: You are the Jack Hargreaves of the sailing world. The piece to camera about the roller reefing proves it.
Good on yeah bazza
Amazing to see you sailing with those beautiful dolphins 🐬 wow 😎
You are the Man Barry ! How is Tina doing ? Stay Safe & Fair winds !!
Always a good day when we get news from the Old Dog. Mighty fine seeing you out on a boat in deep water for a change, and I could tell it affected you that way as well. Good work, mate.

Fantastic as always you're living the dream, as you deserve it ‼️®™️ 👏👏👏
Boom furling works

"But I don't let sneaky people worry me, because this week I talked to dolphins!" Lovely words!!
yes
Good on ya Barry . Nice of you to help out a mate . He did a fantastic job of re-fitting his yacht :-)
Best sailing channel on UA-cam and its not even close.
Beautiful refit. Maintaining those teak decks would have been a pain.

And full battens, hence better sail shape…
Great as always Seadog.
Woot. Always a good day when the Seadog posts a new video.
I sure would have enjoyed watching Vespa get rebuilt. She came out looking saweet.
Another awesome video Barry! Bon Voyage
Another great video Barry! I have not missed a video from the very beginning of your adventure. I even have all your videos saved and I have watched them all multiple times even if the internet is down. I guess I am a bit of a fanatic. Thank you and keep the videos coming!
Haha Barry you're so funny. You probably took a massive dump in that water.
nice boat!
Good stuff
Appreciate it
Great video, can't wait to see you back on the water again. Kudos to you sailing solo!!
When I lived in France in Cannes, there was a lovely and popular beach just next to a small marina, it was a great place to go swimming but on occasions the smell of human waste in the water drifting out from the marina was over-powering. i was so happy to see the MASTOKA I have been missing there videos.
Barry
It is time to go and continue your journey.
Good luck!
Shes a beauty. Congrats to him!

As always an enjoyable video from you! Thanks.
If you think gulf harbour is big check out Westhaven in the city, think its the biggest in southern hemisphere
Whoopee…Yer not too far from 100K Subscribers…”Big Time” Bucks😜…And like always, Our Hero Barry helping out Others👍 Continue to Stay Safe & Enjoy😎
Was it sneaky pete ? 😆
That cooler with rows and rows and rows of beer is exactly how most of us buy beer in the US too. Glad to see the trend has moved across the globe.
You're the dolphin whisperer! Eeeeega eeeeek eeeeeek
You can have battons in a in-mast furling system. They are just verticle vs horizontal
Really pleased to see you back where you belong, in the rough blue stuff!
Yess Barry, its a great privilege to talk with doplhins. Mother Nature says it all. By the way, rolling furling boom is one of my dreams...fantastic option, expecially for solo sailors, even if terribly expensive. Fair Winds ;-)
13:44 bloody hell that is impressive, a beautiful yacht
Another great video..cheers. Have you considered a polarising filter, i think it would occasionally be well worth it..just a cheap one held at the right angle over the lens..

Another great Seadog production. Thanks for sharing Barry! Cheers!
Another very nice video Barry. You never disappoint.
We call that a beer cave in the USA
hi its from burnley i have been watching your fore for a long time it good to see what you see at sea and on land hall the best to you pal HARRY FROM BURNLEY all the best to you
Love your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Very good session. Loved it.
I sneak in to give this video a thumbs up 😁😁😆
Agree amazing what the ocean does for the sole
Yeah, and don’t forget the flounders …
well Barry after watching all your videos its a bit of a thrill to see you sailing in my stomping ground, hope you enjoyed the gulf and some of east coast ..cheers Mike Harwood
Good to see you helping out a mate to get his new for him boat back to his home port !
Wow, hard to believe it’s the same boat
The USA is crazy about water turds & soap as well.

Just poo when performing a soft scrub. LMAO!
You have inspired me to one day get a sailboat and sail around the world. I love seing that you have uploaded knowing i will have a good video to watch. Stay safe lad and enjoy life.
looked like hard work putting that main sail up
Beautiful! You should have taken the ferry over to Waiheke when you were in Auckland. Amazing island! Man I miss NZ! Norway is way to cold for me
I used to keep my yacht at Half Moon Bay and sail over to Waiheke via a night in 'drunken bay' - Izzy bay then round the island and back - with the dolphins on our bow wave! Happy days!

Its amazing how fast those dolphin can move
That boat was stunning before and after. Nice vid Bar. Surely if you take a dump in the water the fish will get rid of that within a few hours?
for your younger follower wondering about thoughts of dolphins alongside a boat...I believe there is a pressure wave in front of a vessel and they actually surf under water ?? and a tangle of ropes I call a 'rats' nest ..cheers
clean water is very important in this country ,we have let it deteriorate so now all hands on deck
