The sad truth is that they fired Nuno because he's Portuguese. He made a really good job in getting Valencia in the Champions League again (after beating Monaco) and making the team competitive. For Spanish people to see Portuguese being successfull in their country it's a burden. Why Mourinho was sacked the way he was ? Why Ronaldo is so hated ?
So from reading the comments below, the players do not seem to be respecting the manager and they do not seem to be motivated, and with an inexperienced manager that does not speak that language that can be a big problem.

I think Gary Neville was treated a little unfairly. He isn’t a terrible coach and he obviously has a lot of knowledge. But he had zero experience and couldn’t speak Spanish which is never going to get the player’s respect. When the players aren’t playing for you, it’s already over. He should’ve worked his way up through the lower leagues and learned to speak fluent Spanish before managing a big club like Valencia.
