  • Movies That REALLY Didn't Age Well..
Welcome back to Film District. Here’s some news about movies that really did not age well. Several films from the ‘80s and 2000s were widely popular among the audience and mega-hit for a long time. Some movies age super well - like The Godfather, from 1972, or Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, from 1939. But other movies...well, they don't fare as well. But after re-watching some of these, they are actually revealed to be more problematic than iconic. Some of the iconic movies that aged badly are:
    1. Peter Pan (1953). The bonfire scene where they sing “What Made The Red Man” was a rude stereotype of Native Americans. 2. Sixteen Candles (1984). The racist and sexist jokes plus the confinement of sexual assault were anything but classic. 3. The Breakfast Club (1985) normalized Claire being sexually harassed by Bender. Additionally, the movie also had many offensive homophobic slurs. 4. Pretty Woman (1990). This movie steered away from the reality of the sex industry. Moreover, the central problem lies in its compliance with stereotypes and toxic masculinity. 5. Groundhog Day (1993). When the manipulative Phil Connors was portrayed as lovable despite all his acts of sexual harassment 6. Rush Hour (1998). Throughout the movie, there was a considerable amount of racist remarks and jokes. 7. Never Been Kissed (1999). The inappropriate romantic relationship between Josie and her teacher Sam, especially since he didn’t know she was an adult. 8. Cruel Intentions (1999). When the step-siblings started betting on taking the virginity of a new girl, it wasn’t reassuring. 9. She’s All That (1999). While many loved this iconic movie, there was a misogynistic message that women need to change themselves to attract men. 10. Big Daddy (1999). The shameless way women were judged based on where they work and people with disabilities were mocked.

How can u say avatar is racist just because it has a white star. So if it was any it other race it would be ok? Its so lame how you just pander this PC idea that everything is somehow offensive. Avatar was and still is a great movie. Anyone who says its racist for having a mostly white cast is probably racist themselves.

There's better ways to show a nerdy girl becoming beautiful. The Princes Diaries is an example.

That white savior thing is not what makes Avatar racist. It's actually because the RDA are racist towards the Na'vi. El stupid-oh!

There are tons of movies from my grandma’s days of the 1940s-1960s that would be considered sexist and racist especially the way they shown Asians in those anti Japanese cartoons and films during WW2 Korean depiction during the Korean War and Lady and The Tramp(1955) , Blacks being depicted by white actors or actresses, and natives in Peter Pan(1953). My mum’s days with gays, racial minorities, and women in the 1970s-1990s. My days of the 2000s-2010s with racist depictions like Tropic Thunder and Iton Man(2008), Pan(2015), Don’t Miss with The Zohan(2007/2008), and Lone Ranger(2011) . Homophobic with Giglio(2003) Spider-Man(2002) and Queer for the Straight Guy. Sexism in the esrly Marvel and DC films, Even the Stae Wars prequels, Star Trek films, Oceania/Vaiana/Moana(2016), and Avatsr had racist depictions of minorities.

They’re movies. I used to get mad at war movies all the time (I’m a veteran), so my wife doesn’t let me go to them anymore.
If you take them seriously, they aren’t for you. There are going to be stereotypes, exaggerated situations, intentionally inflammatory situations, tropes, etc.
If you can’t deal with it, that’s a you problem, not a fault of the movie. I don’t watch war movies because the lack of realism upsets me, but that’s on me, has nothing to do with the entertainment value of the movie.

Film District: You are an example of why Cancel Culture which is bad. They're just movies. You're the reason why we have no heroes in today's culture. The Movies are just a product of they're times.why not cancel all comedy. nobody can laugh at anything anymore. Cancel culture is bad. Just my opinion so don't cancel me, I got free speech too. and I don't mean any harm with my comments. Have a good day.

Cancel culture is a lie. It doesn’t exist. The only real cancel culture is the thin blue line that protects murderous cops.
