Mystery Pottery Mould No.58 : What is inside?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 жов 2024
- This is the series where I reveal what is inside these pottery moulds I found on Gumtree.
To check out the Mouldy Bisquits DIY Pottery Painting kits head to
www.mouldybisquits.com.au
The story goes, I found a listing on gumtree for pottery stuff. When I arrived the seller said 'I have all these pottery moulds would you like them as well?' and I said 'why not'. On the way home, I had the brain child to do a social media video series revealing what each mould is.
The mystery is in the fact that I had no idea what I had said yes to, some of the moulds are labelled and easy to tell but some of them are a little more difficult. The beauty is that all of the plaster moulds surprise you no matter the presentation of labels, titles or identifiable surface inside.
So come join me as I dive into this series and share the mould fun. I would love to hear any information you may have on the moulds and to let me know any stories you have that the moulds remind you of in the comments.
Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe!
Heaps of love,
Shelby

Merry Christmas, Shelby! That's a magestic statuette. Orthodox Saint Nicholas looks so much more regal? than the Coca Cola creation.
Yesss!!! This was what I was trying to get at and I definitely should have done research but I be enjoyed learning from the comments a lot more than my own research! It’s just so much more magical!?
@@ShelbySherritt k😊
My mom has a big Santa collection and this one looks just like hers! Your ability to be so precise with a tiny 00 liner brush is incredible. The leaf embroidery detail on his robe is amazing. And it does give off very strong “right jolly old elf” vibes, to quote C.C. Moore. In the US, St. Nicholas, Santa Claus, Kris Kringle, etc. are all the same person, mainly because of the poem referenced above “A Visit from St. Nicholas” written in 1823. (As someone who worked as a children’s museum Christmas elf myself for a few years, I basically know the whole thing by heart at this point.)
That sounds like the literal best job, in the entire world!! 🥰🥰🥰 For it to be your JOB to bring joy to kids & occasionally reassure their inner child, would be heaven. 🥲💖
the gray hair makes him look like such a distinguished gentleman. it's very lovely!
A real nice old school Santa and I liked what you did with it. I bet the person will like it.
Thank you so much! I kept it very simple this week as that is what the person likes so I think it will be a hit!
He’s gorgeous! Old world Santas are traditionally green or blue though, the red comes from Saint Nicholas, an entirely different figure who was a bishop that brings toys early December in some Western European countries.
Thank you!! I am learning so much about Santa in these comments! This is so interesting and wow, how we morph adapt and change these figures into different representations!
I'm actually pretty sure the old world santa is St. Nick, the red coat is from a viral Coca Cola marketing campaign in the early period of the drink's history.
It looks gorgeous as it is, but it would beautiful in icy blues as well.
@@GirishManjunathMusic Coca Cola Santa is from 1931, St Nick in red predates that to at least the 1850's in The Netherlands, see Sinterklaas.
Painting pottery with acrylics is one of my new "tradition" for holidays since I've found little plaster figurines at the dollar store 😊 It's such a fun way to get into the festivities and grow a collection over time. This big one seems like a lot of fun to paint for sure! All the patterns and embellishments that could go on the coat, so many possibilities!
I feel like some clear lac or resin with just a little white mica in it would make the whole statue pop, make it look like they're covered in a small layer of ice crystals.
Yes I love this idea! I didn’t have time to let resin cure on this one but what a fabulous idea ✨
I found this channel Christmas eve night. I then went back and binged watching every video in order. I have now caught up the evening of Dec 26th
This series is inspiring me to do things with my great aunt V's moulds from the 70s!
Have a wonderful break shelby! Spoiling up with two moulds!!!!! Xx
Very lucky!! Did you catch the one on shorts already!?
@@ShelbySherritt yeah, love watching your videos....would love to do what you do but time isn't right! Beautiful work shelby, look forward to what you have in store for us in the new year! Xx
Woah that's a big mould! As long as you keep doing the mould videos im always going to look forward to seeing what seasonal moulds you do! 😄❤️
And here I sit with a cup of hot tea, imagining watching a real-time version of the hour-long video of Shelby painting such a beautiful piece, as if it was a modern fireplace. Thank you for 2021!
Shelby he looks fabulous very christmasy and a perfect oldie worldy effect
Yay. Covid is kicking my ass this week and I get two mystery mold vids to make me feel better lol. Merry Christmas Shelby
I’m so sad you aren’t feeling amazing! I am so happy the reveals were helpful! Have you seen the one I just posted on UA-cam Shorts too!?
Get well soon!
Gorgeous! I love the old Father Christmas kind of Santa's. The holly, jolly Coca-Cola style Santa's are great, but I love warmth and richness of a robed Santa. My mom's hometown does a Christmas event called Victorian Stroll where people dress up in period costumes & go caroling, there's a big Christmas market. There was a man who dressed just like this Santa you made and every year my brother and I would seek him out for a hug. Merry Christmas, Shelby!
Wow. How beautiful. Happy Christmas Shelby. 🎄
So amazing, I love these older style Santa’s! Merry Christmas, thank you for entertaining us each and every week!!!
Thank you so much for being here each and every week! I am so grateful for you ✨💓
He is stunning, your attention to detail makes it just beautiful
Thank you so much! It was very hard to hold back with patterns on this one! I think if it was not a gift I would have but I think the simplicity makes it pop!
This is in my top 5 favorite ones you have done. So majestic and splendid.
I love your freehand detailing. The whole thing turned out beautiful!
Excellent! This turned out well. It most definitely has that older feel to it.
Beautiful! The white vine detailing on the coat got me giddy
He's lovely and that old time santa is so detailed and beautiful. I think anyone would be happy to receive such a lovy handmade gift. Merry Christmas shelby.
Thank you so much!! Merry Christmas right back at you ✨
Its a Christmas Miracle! I was thinking you would be too busy this week but not Shelby! Thank you for another great video. Merry Christmas!!!
Never too busy for the Christmas spirit 🥺🎄
@@ShelbySherritt and this is why you are so much loved by your social media fam! ❤ I hope you have a wonderful Christmas filled with family and friends and laughter, yummy food, and those special traditions every family has for the holidays. Hugs from Florida!
That was beautifull. I've got my mum hooked on your videos
Merry Christmas!! it looks so good! That red 😍😍😍
A way that you can get that antiquing effect with acrylics is to water down the paint and do a wash. The typical order is to do a base colour, then a wash, then a dry brush for highlights.
A wash is a few shades darker than the base colour (depending on how antique-y and contrast-y you need it). Some colours you can use black, others mix a little black in with the colour (blacken green for eg), or use just a dark colour like a brown etc). You want it thinned out enough that it deposits most of the pigment in the groves of the piece and therefore deepens the shadows.
And when dry brushing highlights you wipe off the brush on some paper towel first and then gently using the side of the brush swipe along the various bits that are sticking out. You can do it all over or be more precise with where the lighting is coming from.
You can get really detailed with this technique.
Also when doing the wash, it may darken your base coat too much so you can go in afterwards and before the highlight and dry brush with some of the base colour to refresh the brightness.
Miniature painting/hobby painting uses these techniques, there's lots of good info out there and it seems like there'd be a lot of techniques you can bring over to pottery, especially when you do these acrylic painted ones.
Love how the Santa turned out!!
Add a antique glaze to it. Old world needs that. Would set it off. You paint amazingly. Great job and kudos
Your so talented! Your painting skills really bring your pieces to life.
Saint Nic is just beautiful 😍 , I grew up with him so it was nice to see him today.
Love love love this old world Saint Nicholas. Have also seen old world necklaces in white or royal blue robes of course antiqued...love the added robe details of the vines❤❤
I just love your channel! One of these days I'm going to save up and buy something from you! Everything you make is so charming! Ive been following this series from the beginning and I love it
Eek you are amazing! Thank you so very much for your love and support. It truly means the world and I’m just so happy you love them as much as I do! It’s just so beautiful to meet you and know you through these moulds! I hope you have a lovely Christmas!!
It looks lovely! Do you still fire it to stoneware temp without the glaze on as you're able to lay it down with the underglaze on?
I’m not sure what each step is called as I learned when my auntie had a ceramics studio (a long time ago), but I believe she fired the green ware to bisque. Then she couldn’t fire it again, because the top glaze would essentially melt into anything it touches, including the base of the kiln. The first firing, Is just a bisque firing - gives you the blank white item to paint on. Things in this firing can touch as your just hardening the green ware clay. The second firing (there’s always two for the glazed version) things cannot touch, this is why ceramic mugs are rough on the bottom, - they absolutely will get stuck together. The glaze she used on the Santa was more like a liquid sealer/varnish type of thing. You can add pigment to this to achieve a slightly lifted feeling. I hope that makes a little bit of sense.
This is not underglaze that she used to paint the old world Santa but acrylics. If you put acrylics through the next temp level firing to make it stoneware the acrylics will burn off. So no, she will not be firing this piece again.
This is my favourite ornament so far. 💖🎅🤶🎄
Considering many of the glazes have a glass component, which is silica,(SiO2), and that's also a major part of most lavas, I commend you for your accurate description of the glaze running everywhere.
Your smile and joy 🥰🥰🥰 thank you!
He came out so beautiful! I really hope they enjoyed their gift.
Wow beautiful. No matter what color was chosen. I have Old World St. Nicks in my collection this color. You do great work.
Merry Christmas Shelby to you and your family. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with us.
I love this Santa, especially the detail you painted on his coat. 🎅🏻
Thank you! I must say the coat detail is my favourite part! I hope you have a lovely Christmas too!
Wonderfully done! And what lovely gift. Happy Christmas!
Wow, those paints are so vibrant! This turned out beautifully!
Merry Christmas, everyone!
Merry Christmas Shelby...enjoy tomorrow, eat tons, kip in the arvo and have fun with family and friends...🎄🎄💟🎄🎄
I am looking forward to the kip more than you would know! It’s the best feeling, the warm weather, full belly, cosy little rest and relax! Thank you so much and I hope you have a lovely Christmas ✨

Merry Christmas. This piece turned out beautiful.
Beautiful! Great job! And I love that mold!
Great job. My mom had a figurine similar to this when I was a kid. I used to just stare at it. Thank you for the video 🌞🌞🌞
I have several Santa molds by Gare that I ended up painting because the level of detail on those molds makes painting underglazes a very time-consuming effort - especially if you're into an opaque look.
They are wonderful when painted with acrylics! :)
Amazing!! Someone is very lucky to be receiving that Santa! Merry Christmas!
Love it!!! Can't imagine it another way! Merry Christmas! ⛄ 🎄 ⛄
Absolutely beautiful!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from across the pond in NZ :) I’ve been enjoying these videos for the past few months and was just looking for something to relax before I sleep, perfect timing!
I am so happy it was helpful and I hope you have a lovely Merry Christmas ✨✨
This is so great! We were visiting family in Australia a few Christmases ago and wanted to find an Australian made Santa to add to our collection. Every one we found, even in tiny Christmas shops in Melbourne and TAS were made n China. These and your surfing Santas are so amazing.
Saint Nicholas or Father Christmas - He's gorgeous! Nice job, Shelby. Merry Christmas. Thanks for a great year of surprises.
This was fun to watch. I have several old world Santa molds that I haven’t tried. Have you tried porcelain? I was a doll maker so I have several bottles of slip. I’ve used China paints or craft paints on things like your Santa. I like the results of craft paints too. Have you made anything out of Flumo or Liquache? If you aren’t familiar with them, they are air dry slip. Flumo is the hardiest one and I like it a lot but I’ve had a hard time finding it. There’s also Liquache ( spelling?) which is more like paper mache. I’ve made reproductions of antique dolls and bodies that were made of composition or paper mache out of them. This series has been lots of fun! Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Just WOW! What a beautiful piece! Love all of the details. The paint colours are so bold and bright. Love it
It’s absolutely wonderful, what a great job you did with the paintwork, love his copper bell. Hope the real Santa brings you lots of lovely surprises. Have fun at Christmas, Shelby.🎅
The end result turned out fantastic!
Such a handsome piece! I have many old world Santa’s in my house and this one would fit right in! I love you took risks when things didn’t work out right.
I like these old styles of santa's.
It came out gorgeous.
Would love to see these again in your new studio with the larger kiln!
I’m in the US 🇺🇸 and am also a Hugh Santa collector ,,, I love this piece 🥰 I have a couple that are real close to looking like it💚🥰💚
Love the Santa and your paint job! If you do more pieces like this, you might want to look into dry brushing and using washes. Kind of brings out the highs and lows in a different way if you want to try different methods. Love the paint job though!
What a stunning gift this is
That's really a nice piece. Some of the molds are great and some not so much. The suspense is killer
You did such a wonderful job! I love it. The red is gorgeous. Thank you for making these videos Shelby- they have been such a joy to watch. Wishing you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
Thank you so much for always being here and enjoying them! I hope you have a very Merry Christmas ✨🎅🏽
It's lovely! I'm sure the person you gift it to will adore it, both because it really is an impressive beautiful mold, and because you finished it with such care. I love the touch of the vines on his coat! Merry Christmas, and thanks for sharing this series with us this year. I look forward to seeing what you do in 2022! Happy Holidays and a joyous New Year to you!
Beautiful artwork Shelby !! Merry Christmas !! Only think I personally would have done is use silver instead of gold. I think gold is just so over used everywhere ...& I think silver looks more eyecatching & classy
That piece came out amazing.
Light blue, gold and white would match old world santa too! Gives it a more natural look
I love these videos! Thank you! Merry Christmas!
When I paint on bisque I was taught to put white acrylic down first. It works wonderfully
Listening to dance of the sugarplum fairy in the background really set the mood lol
Yay merry Christmas from the Uk Shelby! Your videos have truly been the best kind of gift this year (everyone knows are the best ones are the ones you didn’t realise you wanted so much haha) keep at it ya hard working lass! 😊😊
Ugh stop it! Making me get all sentimental and feel the feelings! Thank you so much! I truly appreciate this so much. Thank you for watching, encouraging me, engaging and letting me know what you like and don’t like in the videos. It truly helps! I am just so happy to find people that love them as much as I do! Merry Christmas!
it's gorgeous! Merry Christmas everyone 🎄
Merry Christmas ✨🎅🏽
The mould is incredible!
Watching the results after a glaze is so satisfying though and we didn’t have that this time, so… :(
Merry Christmas 🧑🏼🎄❤️
OMG!!!!IM AMAZED!! ST. NICHOLAS ❤❤❤
Absolutely stunning!
Amazing! Merry Christmas from the UK x
What sealer do you use Shelby? It looks fantastic!!!
4:46am on Christmas eve in Massachusetts! Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!!! We are two hours away from Christmas now 🤭🎅🏽✨
@@ShelbySherritt Merry Christmas! You have helped fuel my Chirstmas creativity this year! Thank you and God bless you!
SO BEAUTIFUL!!! Merry Christmas lovely. Stay safe 🎅❤️
Your talent is inspiring.
So lovely !! I was wondering if you were considering getting a bigger kiln?
Merry Christmas 🎁🎄🎅
I love him so much! I think you did great 😊
Your Olde Worlde Santa is adorable.
Merry Christmas! 🎄🎉🎉
I would of done a lustre fire after the Bisque fire, before painting it. He is stunning though. Also, LOL at that cheeky spooder! 7:04
I love the old Santa's too. They used to be in all sorts of colours. Not just usual red and green we see at Christmas. also shades of blue. On a side note the look of Santa we know today came from a Coca Cola ad in 1931. This set the look of the short coat with pant being red with with with fur and a Santa hat and Santa being fat.
Thank you so much! I am learning so much! How interesting! I was very tempted to do a blue and green one but because this was for a present I kept it really simple and in the Christmas colours they have! I would love to revisit in some blues!
@@ShelbySherritt I'd love to see some gold or silver on the coat
Yea I remember these as supposed to be slate blue or green
Absolutely Amazing!
He's stunning!
That turned out amazing
Merry Christmas from Pat from Pennsylvania. Thank you for the peaceful videos you provided this year - I needed them! BTW, what is "Gumtree"?
It's an Australian buy sell swap second hand website 😊
That santa is beautiful!!
You do a beautiful job each time 🥰
Merry Christmas Shelby & family. From Melton.
Beautiful video my dear friend 🎄🎄🎄
He's gorgeous!
Merry christmas Shelby !
I really like the copper for the bell instead of gold! Would some Micha powder have worked to?
Oh, I own this mold, and a couple others with a very similar style, like a little char Pliny girl or something and I think maybe a cherub. Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve gone threw my molds lol.
