At around 42:26, patrick bolts and then casts snapcaster targeting bolt again, but Shaun had an untapped relic of progenitus and could have just exiled the bolt with snapcasters ability on the stack, right? I don't understand why he just let patrick get the extra value off of his snapcaster
Don’t worry it’s back for regular paper pro tours. Unfortunately wotc has shredded competitive mtg so I’d trade for how it was 7 years ago in a heartbeat.
I'm in no position to judge people at the pro tour level, but doesn't Cryptic Command allow you to bounce a permanent to its owner's hand? So at 54:35, it seemed as though Dickmann could bounce the ooze to his hand, and he has two counterspells to back up that play if McLaren wants to fight over it. He just won a counterspell battle getting his ooze in play, so it stands to reason McLaren might not have answers to that play. Can anybody explain to me why passing the turn is better?
mdt2189 I don't pretend to follow all the intricacies but the first level argument for waiting is the pure value of using instants on the other player's turn. Even if they have more mana available for the fight it's mana they can't use for threats or proactive plays and mana that is then tapped out for your next turn.
There was a lot of pros and cons on doing that... Anyway, at that point, Dickmann had to choose, and if he had done that play, cryptic to bounce and fight for it when countered, he was going to be tapped, and next turn he was open to get 8 from Colonnade and Mage.... And that's one more reason to pass the turn all untapped, he still could use cryptic to counter and/or bounce any spell, respond to Colonnade activation, etc, etc.. One way or another he would take damage, but passing the turn he gain the possibility to avoid that in a lot of possible ways, multiple possibilities of turning the game, instead of going to 2 life for certain if he had been tapped just for bounce Ooze... This is, obviously only my point of view... He had chosen the possibility to have the cryptic for bouncing/countering/tap all, and still mana to fight for it if countered, instead of just using it for bounce the ooze and get certain damage next turn!... (what happened anyway, as we know) ;)
I have a casual deck to play against my less serious friends, and it is a pink sleeved mono black two power 1 drops with scary art. Thats the name of the deck. I also have pink sleeved Sultai constelation.
It's okay to do it because he's going to shuffle afterwards. It's also one-hundred percent useless. There are some rules that define how to properly shuffle so that you completely randomize the order of the cards undoing any "stacks" that might have been left in the deck, and he's following them.
at about 11:09 why dosnt shaun just activate tecktonic edge and hit the steamvents, then tap down the mountain with ajani? boom no red for dickmann. that is a gamble i suppose
At 45:10, Patrick is stacking his deck, as far as I can see. It looks like he notices several counter spells next to each other, and he puts them back in, but further apart.... Is that legal?
to be honest, though im not a pro, the third game patrick should snapcaster and flash back gitaxian probe immediately after facing land screwed situation to force the relic into action.... in the end patrick cast a snapcaster for no extra value plus delay for at least one turn... thats a huge misplay i guess....
Andriy Law he wouldnt have gotten to... heres how that scenario plays out. dickman plays snapcaster mage, targets probe. in response to target, mclaren fetches off of mesa and pays one mana to activate relic of progenitus's second ability, which exiles all cards from both plays graveyard and draw him a card. he then untaps and casts electrolyze... so instead Mclaren gets a 3 for 2. instead he passes, hoping Mclaren casts a spell that he could remand to play a card.
In every block that has 3 releases, there are 3 Pro Tours. Similar to the Return to Ravnica Block, each Pro Tour will be different, between Standard, Modern, and Block Constructed (only cards from the most recent block)
He also does it at 54:45. I guess "stacking" is not the correct word, its more "rearranging your library, while looking at the cards face up, as you are searching thrue the library for X". (X here being a land in both cases). I'm pretty bad at magic, but i did not think that this was part of the text "Search your library for a basic Island or forest"....
Actually the word binary only means that the number system 'has two values'. We chose 0 and 1 for practical reasons but there's no reason that it couldn't be 1 and 2 instead.
Fair point! :-) Although I'm fairly confident he was referring to an electric lock so it would probably would have been binary as we know and love it today :-P
It´s not always slow, it depends mostly on the players, some control players are really aggressive bold and fast in their choices from the start of the game and interact constantly, Ben stark is a great example when he plays UWR, though these are exceptions. As an aggro player I get what you are saying, yet you should check the finals of this protour, Uwr, against brithing pod is an intense match. Pod basically goes on the beatdown plan and control has to react fast to it.

Is being 9 years, this trio his still the top of commentators
Only LSV is a good commentator of the 3
No disrespect to our favorite Englishmen but replace him with Marshall then I’d say this comment is 100% correct.
Patrick Dickmann seems like such a pleasant opponent. I wish more people would clearly announce everything they're doing like that.
But then they wouldn't be able to get away with as much cheating.
i like patrick's playstyle
"At this point, it's not really, you know, the Fated Retribution that Dickmann really would need here."
"ooze in control here?" at the 54:00 min mark ... beautiful

The Relic was tapped at the time. Watch from around 41:30. When the camera zooms out at 42:15, they've gone to the next turn.
Ahhhhh i didn't get too see him untag due to the camera not showing it so that confused me as to where they were in the turn cycle. Thanks!
blue is awesome color
binary doesn't have any 2's
weesh ful can't help but remember that episode of futurama where bender had a nightmare and thought he saw a 2 :P
Im disappointed it's no longer best of 5, I get why they changed it I just don't it.
Don’t worry it’s back for regular paper pro tours. Unfortunately wotc has shredded competitive mtg so I’d trade for how it was 7 years ago in a heartbeat.
Now that's a very interesting last name
I know, right? - Having a car name such as McLaren is so weird.
he has a dick man. lololololololololoolololololololololololoooooolol

The reason I'm suggesting this now is because McLaren is somewhat tapped out.

I'm not sure why Dickmann decided to side out his combo. Isn't control favored over midrange?
real men use pink sleeves
I hear that, my Selesnya deck has pink sleeves at the moment and I'm sporting a Mentor of Heroes and a Goldmane in there.
I have a casual deck to play against my less serious friends, and it is a pink sleeved mono black two power 1 drops with scary art.
Thats the name of the deck.
I also have pink sleeved Sultai constelation.
i don't understand: in second match, dickmann with 9 lp surrended after mclaren's lightning helix ??? wtf ???
+Jádson L He would have taken 4 damage from the ooze and 2 from snapcaster mage, plus 3 from helix = 9
quick question, has a girl ever won a protour?
+DuckDoesQuack Not a lot of girls play magic at the professional level.
At 1:01:35 its really clear, he see's 3 tarmogoyf's next to each other, and rearrange's them.
Is this legal?

juptor I see. Thanks.
Guess I should find those rules and read them :)
No you don't. That's what Judges are for. !!!!JUUUUUUDGE!!!!!!!!
at about 11:09 why dosnt shaun just activate tecktonic edge and hit the steamvents, then tap down the mountain with ajani? boom no red for dickmann. that is a gamble i suppose
Great match, kinda annoyed by how much Randy is fanboying over Dickmann.
I know I mean after the match when they talked about the game. Up to the point that Zach had to point out that Shaun won.
I don’t really like how Patrick boarded post board.
I would have left 1-2 in + shaved 2 bolts
31:50 StoneForge Mystic letting you do filthy things with her batterskull ;)
11:05 Great joke by LSV unacknowledged besides a background sigh by rich lol.

1:16:00 PAtricks hand XD Dissmiss into dream?XD
144p ?
360p - Move on up!
"Threading the needle". *facepalm* lsv
Here's a secret. None of them are wearing pants
At 26:45 why didn't dickman just eat snapcaster with ooze and swing for lethal?
then there is no creatures in the graveyard so tarmogoyf loses 1 point of power and toughness
to be honest, though im not a pro, the third game patrick should snapcaster and flash back gitaxian probe immediately after facing land screwed situation to force the relic into action.... in the end patrick cast a snapcaster for no extra value plus delay for at least one turn... thats a huge misplay i guess....

i thought pro tours were supposed to be standard, why was theros standard and not born of the gods? i cant recognise any of these cards!!
It´s the third or fourth (pretty sure third) pro tour that is not standard but modern.
In every block that has 3 releases, there are 3 Pro Tours. Similar to the Return to Ravnica Block, each Pro Tour will be different, between Standard, Modern, and Block Constructed (only cards from the most recent block)
ah ok thanks a lot. did that happen with rtr block as well?
He also does it at 54:45. I guess "stacking" is not the correct word, its more "rearranging your library, while looking at the cards face up, as you are searching thrue the library for X". (X here being a land in both cases).

Actually it says "Search your library for a forest or island card..."
Juptor already correctly addressed your question at hand though.
I would have brought in crucible of world to blow up lands with tetonic and hits more landdrops
At 25 minutes in game 1, Dickmann should've just bolted the snapcaster on endstep and swung for 14
PO REE FO REE
vargas unstands the game so well why isnt he winning more than he does lol
pink is a new black^^
Lmao - the "binary" code to fort knox = 2,1, 1..... lol :P fail cakes :P

Yea gaming is not better at all
God I hate blue. Slowpace. Jund was so much more fun to watch.

watch stanislav cifka play control.
arn't all control decks slow
Even Hansen *solitaire. Lol.
at about 11:09 why dosnt shaun just activate tecktonic edge and hit the steamvents, then tap down the mountain with ajani? boom no red for dickmann. that is a gamble i suppose
and dickmann gets a fetchland the 2 turns later, that woulda been a mistake then i suppose
At 25 minutes in game 1, Dickmann should've just bolted the snapcaster on endstep and swung for 14
yeah, decided to watch some older modern pro tours after the last one and the vibe is just great.
