Hell yeah that would be cool too. Or Walmart now has 2 versions of there spinning and baitcaster. It's a "pro" model, few bucks more. Do a comparison of either spinning or baitcaster? Whichever you want? While nit quite that cheap, I am a budget rod and reel fisherman,so I love these videos
I'm 37 years old. I live in Southeast Louisiana. I fished a lot when I was a kid but for a while, I didn't care too much for it. Never even owned my own tackle or rod and reel combos. About a year ago now, I was really bored and realized I needed a new hobby. I got a cheap spinning combo from Walmart. Used that for a few months. Then I decided I wanted a baitcasting combo. Went to my local Academy, looked around and decided to go with the Abu-Garcia Max Pro Combo 7ft MH as my very first baitcasting combo. I love this thing. I now have 5 baitcasting combos and 3 spinning combos. 😊
The Shakespeare Agility lol man…my first ever bait caster many moons ago. It was 19.99 when I bought it lol. That thing was a little tank though. It lasted me for quite a while. It actually still works and I still have it. It’s on a shelf on display.
I’ve upgraded to an entire line of Shimano reels since my budget reel days, but that quantum is the only one I still haven’t gotten rid of. Works great for $40 !
Is that a good one to start out on for a baitcaster newbie?
@@highjinx6519 for someone who is new to baitcasting, I wouldn’t go very cheap, but not very expensive. Very cheap might not perform well and you might not like very expensive. Lews lfs speed spool 99$ is a good starting reel I have one myself and it is perfect.
I love these budget challenges/reviews because it help beginners get an idea of a good entry level setup that won’t break the bank. Keep up the good work brotha 🤙🏼.

I've had the Quantum Nitrous for years and I think you graded it perfectly. Not the worst, not the best. Good budget reel.
Just out of curiosity...There were no Abu Garcia Black Max reels out at Academy that day? That would actually be the cheapest baitcasting reel Academy offers at $34. And they are great great reels. They punch way above their weight. I highly recommend for anyone who is a newbie to baitcasting and doesn't want to break the bank,

@@doralevitt2879 Go to Walmart. Get a Shakespeare medium/heavy rod for $20. The blue and white ones. They make them in spinning and baticasting versions. They aren't great, but they're definitely good enough to get you going.

All in all would say you were pretty accurate. I have had the Shakespeare Agility for years and it is a very solid budget real for me to start with. Good starter reel that has its uses but doesn't compare to my higher end reels.

The Shakespeare reel was my first bait caster. Cheap but good to learn on. At least in my experience
I was once a Shimano baitcaster snob but during supply chain shortages, a Cabela's salesman recommended the very affordable BPS Formula baitcasting reel, which has 7+1 bearings, dual adjustable braking system, compact size, very reliable, casts far, doesn't backlash unless I mess up, click adjustable drag but not click adjustable spool tension, and fairly smooth on retrieve (tip: put it against your ear and wind at the store). It is almost always in stock, even in my preferred left hand retrieve. I think it's a great value right now. I now own 4 of them and they are all consistently good. The BPS Formula Limited Edition is a lighter grey with the same specs and quality at an even lower price if you are looking for a real reel bargain.

Under $50 and for a first time baitcast learner reel I am with Abu Black Max. It flat out worked and was easy on the learning curve. I do like that Shimano you had there. My Shakespear reel is now on my lure knocker setup. It worked ok like you said but on mine the tensioner now does nothing so it is a free spool.
Also most all of my reels are on a $20 Walmart Shakespear rod 7 foot MH. It is light and sensitive.

Daiwa CC80 is an awesome reel. I have several. I had a bunch of KastKing stuff before and the first time I used the CC80 I immediately felt the higher level of quality and I couldn't go back to my other reels. I've been buying Shimano, Diawa and Lew's ever since. Daiwa gives you a great reel at an insanely good price.

I have been bass fishing since 2020 and the Shakespeare Agility was my first ever baitcasting reel and i still use it to this day. Most people say that the Abu Garcia black max is the best starter baitcasting reel but it could really go either way but it could also depend on your budget i saw a Abu Garcia black max reel for $68. Edit: It also casts way better side casting

I have the daiwa cc80 and it's a great reel for the price. I added some spool speed bearings, and carbon fiber drags and it performs really well.
I love,the budget challenges. More in my price range. And maybe find other stuff,I may over look.

My first Bait Caster was a Shakespeare Agility, and it was one of my favorite ones ever!
The agility reel has been updated now! I bought one yest and it has big full size handles now and updated spool that’s a lot smoother and it casts fairly well.
Another great video brother . I couldn’t agree more with your decision of which reel was better . I’ve always had a Shakespeare at the end of my poles I’ve never had a problem with them and I’ve got some good size fish on them . But they are on the cheaper side . But I still do agree with you 100% can’t wait for the next video.
I’m sure it has something to do with it being a spin cast but my $60 Shakespeare/ugly stik combo didn’t make it 3-6 months.
Can you do a video on how you set up your reels pole how you tie your weight hook and bait. Beginner here and from what I catch in your videos you tie your hooks and bait nicely!

Quantum Pulse full combo was my first baitcaster rod and reel and still have it as back up or for the boat as extra might change bearings in it soon but one of my top 3 baitcaster is the Quantum Throttle 2 and still doing amazing with my 2 shimanos
I have 2 Quantum Pulse bait casters that I bought at Walmart about 14-15 years ago for $29. each.
I use them in salt water. One for black sea bass and the other is on my Sabiki stick for Mackerel. I have caught hundreds of fish with them and they are still going strong.
Both have 30 pound power pro. I landed a 37 inch bluefish on one of them, and the other has caught many keeper stripers while aiming for Black sea bass.
Best bang for your buck reels I have ever bought.
Definitely do the cheapest spinning one. It'll help newer anglers who may not know.

When I started fishing in the UK, 35 years ago, Shakespeare was a go to brand. Daiwa also. Shout out for the bright blue Shakespeare seatbox!!!

My bait casters used to include a Ryobi, A Diawa and a Quantum Lite. The Quantum was my favorite reel and I literally wore it out. Caught tons of fish and could throw a 1/16 oz spinner bait with it.. Hated to retire it. Lets try cheap spinning reels next. A lot of us can't afford the big buck models.
Yeah, bed fishing is quite a while away up here in Indiana. It literally snowed today. Last year we had our last snow in late April.
I always had to flick up cast the Shakespeare stuff. Cant cast far but they work if you are in a boat for spot casting.

I really wanted a baitcasting reel and ended up buying the Shakespeare. It took me forever to tune it so it wouldn't birds nest each cast. I can't wait to upgrade it to a better reel.

You should try the h20 express bait cast combos! There definitely a budget banger! I loved mine. But since i upgraded to my dc's ill never go back. Lol

LOJO just putting this out there but the daiwa is my favorite cheap real I actually run one of mine on a 6ft 6in light rod with 6lb line to throw mini baits such as spinners and buzz for creeks
might have to snag that daiwa. i’ve had a piscifun torrent for a couple years now, bought it as a joke to go next to my shimano slx xt. it’s handled bass and a decent northern pike. budget or less expensive stuff isn’t all junk like most people will say.
That Shakespeare was my first baitcaster! I really liked it for the price! i had it on a $13 Jawbone rod! Best $50 combo until I fell out of the boat and lost it!
I literally got the Shakespeare agility for a present when I first learned how the use one. It is still my go to three years later. I can out cast just about anyone.
I was honestly surprised at the performance of the Shakespeare, I've fished with them my entire life, however I'm picking up the Abu Garcia vengeance this Friday

I have both the ozark trail and the Shakespeare agility. Side by side, there’s almost no difference. They are what I could afford; and I catch fish when I use them. But I wouldn’t consider them to be nice.

Hey Lojo! Personally, I love any videos like this. Expensive, cheap, or just in between but perhaps like the “most reliable” or “best for your buck”. I think one for me and maybe a lot of other anglers who aren’t pros and don’t have a sh$&load of money to throw at reels and rods all the time would be a “best reel/rod/line etc. but within a budget of say like 150-200ish per item? Maybe even cheaper if possible. I obviously want and would LOVE to have all shimano or lews tournament custom reels but I just can’t afford it nearly as much as I want to.
Anyways, just a thought. Thanks for the content! Love the channel! Tight lines from Kansas/Missouri.

I have the step up, the red Daiwa. I have used it a lot but not my favorite lower priced reel.
I’ve got the Quantum Bill Dance baitcasting combo and it’s been a solid buy for $75
