Watch the GOAT, Peter Mel, surf a long ride at Mavericks this morning for over one-minute on his feet. Filmed 3.11.2024
The Mavericks Awards is a digital video performance contest in which big wave surfers and videographers submit their best surf content from Mavericks from the entire winter season. Founded by Jeff Clark and Chris Cuvelier, our mission is to celebrate Mavericks and the brave men and women that surf it. Our values of respect, inclusion, equality, safety and environmental stewardship guide all our decisions and how we operate the Mavericks Awards.
Finally a shot that shows the whole set up there. That wave can peel to the breakwater on the right conditions. Best ride I've seen recorded there.
Exactly what I was thinking. Everything always shows Mavs like it's some slab wave but it can travel a distance.
I think the ride by Jay Moriarity in Year of the Drag-in was substantially better.
Had no idea it was walkable on the inside like that
@@JR-ef1er it is not. There is a reef and a lagoon between shore and the break. Some folks would walk out on the reef and paddle right through impact but I always thought it wiser to paddle out south of Mushroom Rock.

damn I've never seen anyone ride one that far at Mavericks. I generally criticise this wave as just a take off, but that wave there proves in the right conditions you can get a long wave that can go for ages with multiple sections.

Mavericks is 25 minutes from my home. The waves at Mavs can be absolutely psycho or glass-flat,. so always check the forecast the hight before and in the morning,

I always thought Mavericks was farther off shore. Then a few videos showed the cliffs….. north of the beach? Oh, it’s not off shore. This made it look like an easy paddle out from the sand.

Actually that was bull. I watched it again and Im sitting in the car at 42 secs still. 55 sec though and Im charging.
