Looking back at Chris' life as documented online (especially this channel as well as Geno's documentary), it seems that things were in motion long before Chris became internet famous. What we are seeing is untreated mental illness. It happens to be broadcast for all to see because of the way that Chris chooses to live his life online, but make no mistake, without the internet, he would be no better off -- we just wouldn't be privy to the details. We're all looking at him through our own neurotypical (or even neurodivergent but with the right emotional tools) lenses and trying to be empathetic -- trying to imagine how we might feel in his situation, which is admirable but not applicable. Chris' brain doesn't work the same way because he never received proper treatment or even general guidance on how to act in society. Just look at the "attraction sign" nonsense. That all happened before Chris was discovered on the internet. The first person to tell him that "No, this is abnormal behavior; you shouldn't do that." became Chris' biggest nemesis -- someone against whom he still holds a grudge decades later. What did his parents do then? Did they agree and help to model better behavior for him? No! They enabled him, fighting Ms. Walsh and threatening to write to the White House to allow Chris to continue posting his weird signs around his community college campus. Even before that point, when Chris was first diagnosed with autism, Bob and Barb actively fought against getting him the support and special education he required -- going so far as to change school districts to prevent him from getting what he needed. While I believe they had the best intentions in mind (We can get a glimpse into what Chris, and by extension his parents, thinks special needs schooling is like from his "Autism Tutorial" video where he describes some sort of cartoon dungeon insane asylum), the results have been disastrous. They just decided to pretend that Chris was neurotypical and hope that things would all work out in the end for him with no guidance whatsoever. I don't expect Chris' parents to be child development experts -- especially in the early '80s. What I do expect is for them to at least not actively work *against* the experts who are trying to help. I expect them to have done something -- to provide some guidance to Chris on how to act. The bar is really low here. Tell him not to post signs around town trying to pick up women. Tell him not to touch people who don't want to be touched. Tell him not to take his mother to prom. These things all happened before any of the internet trolls. The trainwreck was already off the tracks. Speaking of no parental guidance, every time I see a video where Chris is SCREAMING at the top of his lungs at the camera, I am reminded that it's all being recorded right in Bob and Barb's home. When I was a kid, if I ever would have screamed like that, my parents would have come rushing to see what was wrong -- I'm sure most all parents would do the same. And if Bob or Barb had done that, they would have had an opportunity to see the types of things that Chris was doing, the type of information he was sharing online, and the people he was engaging with. Instead, they did nothing. Whenever I hear about Chris Chan it makes me sad, not only for Chris himself, but for the many many others out there attempting to get through life with untreated or undertreated mental illnesses. There are undoubtedly many out there; they're just not as visible as Chris.

15:30 - To be fair, inn the Keffals' interview, Chris has _technically_ ret-conned The Mother Effening as having "occurred in another reality" or something to that effect. So like, not completely denying it happened, at all, ever, just now claiming that it somehow didn't happen in THIS reality, in spite of all evidence.
I strongly believe that there's more to the story of why josh did what he did to chris, there's just so much viciousness and malice to what he did that I'm sure it was something very personal that caused it all to happen. But unless josh decides to spill the beans we'll never know.

Chris is at heart a selfish, jealous, possessive monster who can't stand seeing other people be happy when he isn't. He's the exact sort of person who would see a person being "nice" to him out of obligation to good manners (you know: the old "you have to nice to billy when he's here because he's a guest" thing that moms always use to leverage kids into "being nice" to kids they don't like when they come over to visit with relatives or family friends) the way josh almost certainly was doing when they were kids as a sign that they were "best friends" when josh only saw him as an annoying acquaintance who he was forced to put up with and be "nice too". Other than being in speech therapy together I don't imagine they had much of anything in common that would spark an actual friendship of the sort chris thought they had, and knowing the sort of person chris is I wouldn't put it past him to go out of his way to sabotage josh's other relationships (especially once he was in high school and had a girlfriend) out of pure jealousy because he felt that those other people were "being mean and hogging josh". Dealing with someone like chris who is normal functioning and is perhaps way too forward and is exhausting enough, but dealing with someone like chris who lacks the intelligence to understand that they're not the center of the world and constantly demands your 100% undivided attention at the expense of everything and everyone else in your life is beyond infuriating even for the kindest most patient people.
It's for the best. It's obvious that the Wallflower doesn't want to be involved with Chris. It's best that she fades into the twilight for her own sake.
Chris Chan feels like the textbook definition of missed potential and corruption. He had the potential to become a genuinely good person but due to various factors fell into a downward spiral and every action he did just made things worse, even when others tried to help him, he just pushed them away. 20:07 - While Sockness' beliefs are based in classic Western Occultism, some of Chris' "random nonsense" technically originates in folk magic of England & Wales (and give Barb and Robert eem to be of overwhelmingly English and Scottish genetic backgrounds, going by Chris' DNA test kit, and Barb's established obsession with her English heritage (including her own bizarre lies about coming from Tudor Royalty connections), and of course Virginia being a former English Colony that boasts a large number of long-time families with roots in the British Isles, this does make some sense. Of course, it's unclear how aware of this folk magic origin Chris is. One of the most stand-out examples of this that I can think of, is how Chris will use saying or spelling someone's name backwards as a form of curse, and using birthstones as a lucky talisman. To be fair, the modern standardised birthstones were created by jewellers to boost sales, and some claim this standardisation is based on traditions going back to 15th or 16th Century Germany & Poland, the tradition did spread across Europe pretty quickly, and carrying lucky talismans is a fairly universal form of folk magic. This all said, yeah, Chris also incorporates a lot of random nonsense coming from toy franchises, common superstitions, and whatever sounds cool to Chris at the time. I'm just pointing out that, even though I doubt Chris knows it, some of it _really does_ come from traditional folk magic beliefs and practises of the British Isles and Continental Europe.

At the time I was calling the leaker of the audio (the suitress) the hero of the story. I knew a friend of the suitress and believed she was the "good guy" in the story, exposing Chris for his crime. I defended the fake persona of Bella, who was friends with the suitress, who I also believed to be one of the good guys, by /saying she wasn't Bella Janke the animal abuser/. I made no comment on the real Bella, because I thought Bella was a different person. Bella tricked me into thinking she didn't do a good thing, and only did the bad stuff, the animal abuse, she was being accused of. I guess she really got me, huh? I believed her because she showed me a driver's license that looked like her but was of someone under 21, making me doubt it was a fake ID. I couldn't show the license in a video, because that's doxxing, and doxxing is evil, so the only thing I could do was tell my audience that I had evidence that the voice on the audio wasn't Bella Janke, but that they should take it with a grain of salt, and in that same video I also presented the evidence to the contrary, portraying both sides of the argument. (The license wasn't fake, it was just someone else's ID, and Bella didn't need it to be over 21, just 18, because she used it to buy crypto, not alcohol). I find it hard to believe your comment is in good faith or who you're trying to fool when you say I "doxxed the suitress for no reason." As it's widely known, and as I've stated multiple times in videos, I showed a text conversation between Bella and the suitress. I zoomed in on the screenshot but the zoom didn't fully cut off her phone number at the top. It was an editing mistake. Literally no one thinks I purposely doxxed her. I've called doxxing attempted murder for years, didnt show the license because that's doxxing, clearly made an attempt to crop the number, took down the video immediately and removed that section once it was pointed out, all while calling the suitress the hero of the story who outted chris. Speaking of no parental guidance, every time I see a video where Chris is SCREAMING at the top of his lungs at the camera, I am reminded that it's all being recorded right in Bob and Barb's home. When I was a kid, if I ever would have screamed like that, my parents would have come rushing to see what was wrong -- I'm sure most all parents would do the same. And if Bob or Barb had done that, they would have had an opportunity to see the types of things that Chris was doing, the type of information he was sharing online, and the people he was engaging with. Instead, they did nothing.
Whenever I hear about Chris Chan it makes me sad, not only for Chris himself, but for the many many others out there attempting to get through life with untreated or undertreated mental illnesses. There are undoubtedly many out there; they're just not as visible as Chris.

I think something chris did to josh that hurt him on a deep personal level is what motivated him to do what he did to chris.
Chris is at heart a selfish, jealous, possessive monster who can't stand seeing other people be happy when he isn't.
He's the exact sort of person who would see a person being "nice" to him out of obligation to good manners (you know: the old "you have to nice to billy when he's here because he's a guest" thing that moms always use to leverage kids into "being nice" to kids they don't like when they come over to visit with relatives or family friends) the way josh almost certainly was doing when they were kids as a sign that they were "best friends" when josh only saw him as an annoying acquaintance who he was forced to put up with and be "nice too".
Other than being in speech therapy together I don't imagine they had much of anything in common that would spark an actual friendship of the sort chris thought they had, and knowing the sort of person chris is I wouldn't put it past him to go out of his way to sabotage josh's other relationships (especially once he was in high school and had a girlfriend) out of pure jealousy because he felt that those other people were "being mean and hogging josh".
Dealing with someone like chris who is normal functioning and is perhaps way too forward and is exhausting enough, but dealing with someone like chris who lacks the intelligence to understand that they're not the center of the world and constantly demands your 100% undivided attention at the expense of everything and everyone else in your life is beyond infuriating even for the kindest most patient people.

Chris Chan feels like the textbook definition of missed potential and corruption. He had the potential to become a genuinely good person but due to various factors fell into a downward spiral and every action he did just made things worse, even when others tried to help him, he just pushed them away. It's a real shame.

This all said, yeah, Chris also incorporates a lot of random nonsense coming from toy franchises, common superstitions, and whatever sounds cool to Chris at the time. I'm just pointing out that, even though I doubt Chris knows it, some of it _really does_ come from traditional folk magic beliefs and practises of the British Isles and Continental Europe.

At the time I was calling the leaker of the audio (the suitress) the hero of the story. I knew a friend of the suitress and believed she was the "good guy" in the story, exposing Chris for his crime.
I defended the fake persona of Bella, who was friends with the suitress, who I also believed to be one of the good guys, by /saying she wasn't Bella Janke the animal abuser/. I made no comment on the real Bella, because I thought Bella was a different person. Bella tricked me into thinking she didn't do a good thing, and only did the bad stuff, the animal abuse, she was being accused of. I guess she really got me, huh?
I believed her because she showed me a driver's license that looked like her but was of someone under 21, making me doubt it was a fake ID. I couldn't show the license in a video, because that's doxxing, and doxxing is evil, so the only thing I could do was tell my audience that I had evidence that the voice on the audio wasn't Bella Janke, but that they should take it with a grain of salt, and in that same video I also presented the evidence to the contrary, portraying both sides of the argument. (The license wasn't fake, it was just someone else's ID, and Bella didn't need it to be over 21, just 18, because she used it to buy crypto, not alcohol).
I find it hard to believe your comment is in good faith or who you're trying to fool when you say I "doxxed the suitress for no reason." As it's widely known, and as I've stated multiple times in videos, I showed a text conversation between Bella and the suitress. I zoomed in on the screenshot but the zoom didn't fully cut off her phone number at the top. It was an editing mistake. Literally no one thinks I purposely doxxed her. I've called doxxing attempted murder for years, didnt show the license because that's doxxing, clearly made an attempt to crop the number, took down the video immediately and removed that section once it was pointed out, all while calling the suitress the hero of the story who outted chris. I have no idea where you heard that, but it's insane.
