There are so many people in Hollywood that would be considered coloured by South African standards and have been nominated and won like...she already made history by being the first to even win this category.
@@ekg891Wrong. Being coloured according to South African standards is about more than just being light skinned, or having a certain phenotype, or being biracial, or being multiracial. More than anything else, it is about the culture. Trevor Noah is the most famous example of someone who is light skinned and/or biracial, but not exactly coloured because he IS NOT part of the culture. In other words, looking like a coloured person, but not being one culturally, just means you're not coloured. An American can come to South Africa and be mistaken for a coloured person, but as soon as he or she starts speaking, we will know that he or she isn't coloured.

Part of her very distant ancestry is Indian, Mauritian, Irish, and Zulu, but culturally, and in terms of her identity, she is COLOURED. She never said that she is Indian, or Mauritian, or Irish, or Zulu. What she said is that she is COLOURED. I think maybe let her speak for herself as to who and what she is. Let's not try to correct her about her own identity. Part of my ancestry is Khoisan, Malaysian, and even Sotho. That doesn't make me Khoisan, or Malaysian, or Indian. I'm COLOURED. Being COLOURED is much more than just being mixed or biracial or light skinned.
