BMW is strongly pushing their "BMW Individual" program by offering incredibly large amounts of pure plastic surfaces in the interior of the new "out of factory" - 5 series. And the high-gloss painted plastic fronts are exactly what you always walked past as quickly as possible in the furniture store. Because you were never in for the cheap look. The matte paintjob looks amazing indeed.
Getting "cheaper" to the look and feel. BMW interiors were one once the strong selling point of the brand. Now, that's slowly slipping away. I currently own two BMW cars, and my next one, from the M series, will not have a TV screen for an instrument panel.

One was the new 4 Series gran coupe which felt so amazing compared to my 7 series, way more updated, futuristic, and quality. Then they let me borrow for the last 3 days of my service the 840i Coupe which blew me away. I mean your 6 and my 7 still has more life and compared to any other brand that is non german these cars are still futuristic in comparison, but compared them to the newer gen bmw, audi's, and mercs you can see how far those generations are falling behind. Bewtween the bolstering on the chairs, into the headliner with big sun roofs all they way into the new idrive 8 gigantic screen idk. I am pretty sure I want to upgrade really soon. If not this year next year when all of the new gen comes out. I mean even the newer 3 series was looking better off than my 18 7 Series lol. The sheer access of telling my bmw to change the ambient lighting instead of using the shortcut keys in the dash was amazing. You can tell it to open any window including the sunroof. This excludes closing. It has dynamic ambient lighting which mines have thorough the whole car but not dynamic. Which those have and that shows when the doors are open it will blink. It has all comfort access and will open when approaching. It shows freaking carplay in the cluster now so you do not even have to use the headunit for gps anymore not only that it shows the artist and the album design in the cluster. I am def going for an upgrade by next year! At least a 2020 7 Series.

I own a 2024 530iX with just about every option available. I have owned several 5 and 3 Series in the past. I get it, the updates are too much for some folks and that is understandable but this car is a dream to drive especially if you spend a lot of time in the car or drive long distances. There are some things I don't like such as the use of crystal for the shift lever and mode selector for the dash screen. Yes, the huge dash screen is a bit intimidating but if you look at the Mercedes E Class you are going to see close to the same thing. It is the future for all cars as car companies move to designs that will accommodate gasoline or electric plants without significant design changes. BMW is just leading in that regard. The steering is a bit softer than my previous 5 Series more like the standard luxury car making you feel a bit more detached from the road than BMWs past. That is my biggest gripe, but other than that there isn't much I would change. To sum it up, the new 5 Series is just a slightly smaller 7 series. There isn't much difference in driving experience, ride, or sound isolation between the two. For those who know, the 7 Series and above are where BMW traditionally infused its latest tech and entertainment options. As far as the plastic and complaints about the materials all car manufacturers are going to alternate materials, but there is a difference between the cheap plastic you see on American and Korean built cars and what you find in the BMW or Mercedes. The Bowers & Wilkins sound system is the best I have ever experienced in a car. JMHO.
I felt the same way when I test drove it. But I drove the 540i xDrive and I have owned 3, 550, x6, x5 and the bmw double r motorcycle. Nothing like the ultimate driving machine.
Design is matter of taste, those lines on gray paint tho looks amazing. For me this is new and bold from BMW. I can't afford it, but still I like the new and the bold "way" from them.

I have mixed emotions... I drive 2008 e61, and comparing this newest model/version to my "grandpa 5er" it feels like a "full poverty" option... The design of the new 5er seems too heavy and not really "aggresive". The previous model (g30/31) was much much much better. And the interior? OMG... The materials I see here make me wanna cry - I really hope that this is THE CHEAPEST OPTION shown here :(
The rear end look nice, but the front end still take sometime to accept it. Overall the M5 from this generation look more high tech, & still maintains it handsome & musculine look. Well done BMW.🥰

The flat screen TV instrument panel, and the "on-off" transmission control instead of an actual shifter combine to take away the functionality of the drivers' compartment. These features are "gadgets" and won't appeal to the traditional buyers.

I think the era of great cars is coming to an end, modern cars are just soulless and disposable garbage, obsolete the moment when they will stop receiving software updates. High end nowadays means a big touch screen and silly led strips in the interior.

The I versions have more technology. I learned that with my 330e, a base 330 without the battery hybrid, you won’t get as much features like you will on a i drive BMW. It’s simply more comfy

turn signals are for everyone to see reverse lights are not. Its there to illuminate the path in the vicinity for the reverse cam and to the driver say for example 2022 tuscon botched the turn signal and put it all the way down. its an suv
At last B.W have got it right with the interior design. The trim lighting is superb. The dash is a match for any merc. They have finally done away with Mr Bore, Mr depressing. The technology has finally arrivedc. Only downside for me is there is no APPLE iPLAY. Everyone now uses APPLE I play. The external body shape could have been designed to more sleek aerodynamic shape. BMW have a reputation for building SQUARE cars. But at least they have got the interior right at last. Mik Haith Proud owner or a beautiful 640 M Sport.

My main issue is those horrible, ugly, cheap-looking plastic bits along the side and back. The 2-series coupe suffers from the same terrible design.

I like rear but not the front. The smaller headlights just dont fit the big grills

At last B.W have got it right with the interior design. The trim lighting is superb. The dash is a match for any merc.
They have finally done away with Mr Bore, Mr depressing.
The technology has finally arrivedc. Only downside for me is there is no APPLE iPLAY. Everyone now uses APPLE I play.
The external body shape could have been designed to more sleek aerodynamic shape. BMW have a reputation for building SQUARE cars.
But at least they have got the interior right at last.
