Zubin Mehta was the truest example of what a conductor should look like on the podium. ie: Dignified, Stoic, and Commanding. His very presence signified Greatness!! Happy Birthday, Maestro !!!!!
When I was a student at Westminster Choir College in the eighties, Maestro Mehta conducted the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in the Brahms’s Requiem. I was in the Symphonic Choir prepared by the G.O.A.T. choral conductor, Dr. Joseph Flummerfelt. Mehta is a “singer’s conductor”. We just thought he was brilliant. One of my most treasured memories!
I had the great honor of playing in the pit orchestra with Maestro Mehta for the Chicago Lyric Opera's production of Wagner's Ring cycle in 1996. He was absolutely brilliant, had the entire score of all four Operas memorized (approx 15 hours worth), and such a warm and generous conductor, it was pure joy! Definitely the highlight of my career! (In 40 years of playing, nothing else has even come close).❤️❤️❤️
I am an Indian classical musician and music writer from the Maestro's city Mumbai. I was bestowed with the great blessing of interviewing him back in 2017 for a leading English daily in India. The man has a heart of gold, a luminous and radiant personality, loving and lovable to the hilt. He has truly preserved the passion and the spirits of all the great legends of Western Classical Music within his consciousness. Believe me, if I were to be reborn I'd ask for a life as glorious as his! He even enjoyed speaking to me in his mother tongue Parsi Gujarati and reminisced about his hometown! Happy birthday and salutations to one of the world's greatest living musical legends! 🎼
Whenever I watch this clip in the beginning, it makes me smile. Those young musicians are now pretty old but still active. I love to see that cellist but also very sad to see Jacqueline. I love her so much.
Happy Birthday, Maestro. What a pleasure to write not only my best wishes, but I am also able to express my deepest appreciation of the years I have enjoyed what you have brought to all in another concert. Many more birthdays! Thank you!
Happy Birthday Maestro Mehta! Thank you for the memorable concert I attended at the Albert Hall Prom in the early 80s, with you conducting Mahler with Israel Phil; and for your kindness and courtesy when I visited you backstage. I was a young student in awe of you - and then walked in Du Pre, Barenboim, Zuckerman, and my jaw dropped! I was in 7th heaven. Many blessings to you!
Hochverehrter Maestro Zubin Mehta. Alles erdenklich Gute zum Geburtstag. Vielen Dank für Ihr Schaffen. Es hat auch mein Leben bereichert. Herzlichen Gruß aus Berlin
Herzlichen Glückwunsch. Ich durfte im November vergangenen Jahres Bruckners 9. Unter Ihrem Dirigat in der Elbphilharmonie erleben. Es war ein Highlight in meinem Leben. Meinen innigsten Dank dafür. Ihnen noch wundervolle Jahre mit traumhaften Musikerlebnissen. Danke
I had the pleasure to meet Maestro Mehta at a Baptist Church where he had a program to encourage black people into music. That particular night Time Bradley the Mayor of L.A. was there so I got both authographs. I also enjoy his conducting many times at the Hollywood Bowl.❤️
@@elijahisbell2622 People/Americans still will continue to think of that cheap showman as a genius... (To be fair, I actually like his "Turandot". And his fabled second Mahler symphony is quite okay too, if you like it big & bombastic - which suits that particular work, at least parts of it. But altogether Mehta will not remain as much more than a footnote in the history of conducting.)
@@Pogouldangeliwitz oh you’re being serious lol. I thought you were being sarcastic, Mehta is an excellent conductor and he wouldnt be as highly regarded as he is if he was as bad as you said he was. there are many conductors with differing levels of genius and different people like them better.
Great. But - what a bouncy playing of the Tchaikovsky! And never moving his head nor eyes from the keys! When you think of Khatia B, just ONE of many, who never even have to look at the keys….she has eyes often closed, or looks at the conductor, it just comes naturally to her, and others, to play not only without music from memory, but without even HAVING to look at the keys all the time as Barenboim has to. Shame.
I disagree! Barenboim is simply getting down to business when he plays; he doesn't make faces or use grand flourishes/wasted motion. Many pianists look at the keyboard when playing, it doesn't mean they don't know the music. I find Khatia Buniatishvili's mannerisms quite distracting, especially her hair in her face half the time. And in the clip of her in this video, wasn't she looking at the keyboard quite a bit?

Que buena edicion de homenaje al maestro. Gracias ¡
Love his Simon Cowell trousers in the Mahler clip!
What about Rach 3 with Horowitz 1978! Such a fantastic performance!
I was just going to comment that, considering how close Horowitz was with Rachmaninoff and how famous that recording is!!!!
I'm assuming that some things are not here because they couldn't clear the rights.
It wasn't a good recording at all. Ormandy did an incomparably better job. Especially in Ann Arbor with his own orchestra.

Puede ser el concierto de pian que están pasando , o la sinfonía #8 Beethoven con la Filarmónica de Tel Aviv
♥️
epic
This year(2022)
Zubin Metar is 86years old
Why no excerpt from the 3 Tenors?
Jaqueline du Pre....thanks...

What's with Rach 3 together with Horowitz?
It was funny and impressive.
Why nothing from Mehta's time with the LA Phil or NY Phil??
wheres the rach 3 with Horowitz??
Horowitz Rach 3?
Happy Birthday! Go Blue! Nobody conducted with Pavarotti better than you!
Nothing with the Orchestra Maggio Musicale Fiorentino ?
To me, the highlight of his career will be when he retires.
At last.
I'm guessing you're a professional heckler.
@@annedwyer797 We prefer to call it a "critic" 🥸
Oboe also downbow 🤣
today's conductors all move their arms too much like they're stand-up comedians.
Wow, must be the messiest "Petrushka" ever. Even a high school band could do this better. What's the lousy conductors name again?
I know right, absolutely appalling recording. I can’t stop listening to how terrible it is.
