Greetings from FINLAND brother, we respect guys like you , real warriors .. come visit in here some day , you would like our nature, its so fresh and pure... Couple days ago we had auroras all over our country, it was pretty amazing, vikings used to think that aurora is like bridge to the valhalla 🇫🇮
Looks like you're really enjoying Ham radio. I received my ticket in 1981, worked it for about 18 months, then due to work I didn't have time. About 3-4 years ago I bought all new equipment, hooked up, and maybe within the 3-4 years I have an hour on HF, and 1 hour a month on VHF. VHF is picking up due to I run the Net for the USCG Aux as SO CM. Enjoy, most the guys/gals are good people.
Four parks in a day is awesome. SOTA is another, Summits on the air. I’ve made a few contacts with that too. I’m happy to see you are enjoying the ham radio stuff Dave. 73 de W4AME
I think it’s really great you’re talking about ham radio and experiencing what me and my family has experience for years my ham radio has always been a part of my go to bag my rucksack and everything even my wife’s and it works great especially in a broadcast you did here not long ago whenever I was stuck in Virginia about emergency communications that has helped out so much and helped so many people and very few people actually realize it
The difficult thing with wsjtx is if you don't have a cell signal and your time is off on your computer/Raspberry PI. My fix was to tune into 10 MHZ for the clock and set my clock. It is tricky but you have to be within a miniscule time frame. I guess I should have watched the entire video as you have the same issue as I did. The POTA issue with the park number is you have a special message block on the 2 tab on messages. I don't really do FT8 for POTA but you have me interested now. Thanks for the video!!!
when you go to the iron furnace this summer, make it a video where you find it on a map, plot your course and follow your bearing with your Suunto mc2 and see how close you can come to accuracy. just a thought I think it would be a good instructional video.
Great video David. It looks like a P2P would be essentially done blind so to speak. RaDAR runs are lots of fun. My XYL and I did a 5 park RaDAR for our 21st wedding anniversary. We ended up with 1 park toward a Late Shift, 3 parks activated, and a Cheetah. 73 de NM9X
I love your videos Dave, radios not my cup of tea though. I get it though….I’m glad your learning something new, but I know I would have no patience for this….nerd out bud 👍
David. I don’t comment on videos very often. I have been fallowing you before the dual survival and I am proud to have the first year of you magazine with a signed copy. I have been a ham for several years now and I hope to make the time to study for my general license soon. 73 my friend. KJ7AWB
Started looking into this ham stuff since you put your stuff up. Looks pretty cool. Some of them radio are expensive, like your 705 which is pretty cool since it can be a pack radio and a vehicle radio. May get into it and see what happens.
Nothing wrong with running POTA. If you enjoy it, do it! I personally love APRS. I took a trip from Canton to Columbus and was running APRS on my HH. I saw a operator that had his message set as his pick up truck. I sent him a message, which he replied. I was so happy
Some ferrite torrids will help or eliminate the EMI from your laptop. I use a Mix 31 torrid for my IC-705 and both Mix 31 and a 43 on my IC-7300. The USB cable is a lot longer for the 7300 compared to the one I use with the 705. Icom recommends a 3ft USB cable or less to be used to reduce the EMI. Too much EMI can cause some problems with the radio and/laptop. Just a few turns around a ferrite torrid will make a difference. Hope to catch you on the air. 73, W4ISB. Mike in Tennessee.
I've seen many hours of your programming, Dave. Sorry, but I cannot see how this is useful. Is it a puzzle? A time killer? A challenge? What can I learn by this? Do you use it to call in the saints after the Big One? Crash course Josh has too many videos to find anything on. I'm sure he takes your calls, though. Those POTAble people creep out my dog. But seriously, I gather a much greater perspective by watching your programming. Tremendously satisfying.
Dave, great video. I'm very familiar with the Furnace and where to find it. Easy to find and get to once you know the area of the park. It's accessible east off of Route 50, down a dirt road about 3 miles on your right. Cross a old bridge and head up the hill.. They have a sign for the wildlife area.
Hi there, long time subscriber, huge fan. I wanted to share that you could use a simple screen capturing software to make sharing this a bit more structured. Best wishes to you and yours!
My old 1978 sierra wood burning stove went out this morning.i woke up !!! Colder than a mother in law's.love.im just checkin on you boys.its 25 degrees in kentucky.
So "spotting" yourself for POTA, does that have to do with signing in through the radio, or pinging on GPS? I'm in alaska and a lot of parks aren't in cell range. Can you just log in from home before you go out, stating what park you'll be in? Nice to see more HAM stuff.
You say that this system(first digital system doing parks) is completely off grid. But that’s not entirely true is it? Can’t your signal still be picked up via triangulation efforts by certain enforcement operations?
Your run away watchdog kicked in not allowing it to go back to the guy responding to your CQ. After you double clicked on his response your enable TX lite back up (24:52). 73 and hope to get you in the log de W3MLK
Okay.....from the guy i respect the most for breaking down complex information for the average guy, I really dislike this video and the subject. HAM is your hobby and not mine, I get it. Its your channel, but by and large i would guess the bulk of your subscribers really are lost on this subject.

Nice activation, glad to see you are doing POTA. It is one of my favorite events. 73
The best RIG we seen so far. A definite update for our set up. Cheers mate.
I’ve followed you since Dual Survival. Love this page and the videos, especially the budget blacksmith stuff. And you’re looking like Santa Klaus!
Very interesting, never knew of this kind of radio station communication. I like it. I will look into it deeper. Thank you
Thx for video. Man I miss the Ohio valley woods. Good memories from Jefferson county.
Appreciate your videos. Very helpful. Have a great, blessed week ahead. Grateful, grandma deb n.c.
Holy cow! I would love to get into ham radio, but I didn’t know it was this complicated.
I'm enjoying all your Ham Radio videos, great content. Keep up the good content and maybe I'll catch you on the airwaves one day. Mike, KI5TKH 73
Always great content thanks from your loyal soldiers in Boston love and respect

Always learning something new watching your videos. That labtop set up is pretty awesome. Nice job Dave!
I love exploring parks in the snow! We recently got a good amount of snow in western North Carolina

Not sure how all this works but it is interesting .. Never seen or heard this before. we all may need it someday. Thank you for the information!
Well done Dave. Easy to follow and understand. Thanks
Covered bridge .. we got them here in pa . Good info on safety 💪
I use a USB / GPS dongle to sync up my time when I am outside of cell range. Thanks for all you do. Hope to catch you on the air. 73s kn4jca

Hello from British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦

Looks great Dave, also sounds Greek to me..never messed with Ham radio. Looks complicated.🤔

God bless... you are a man of the century. And that is cool, too, as so many are so full of hot air! de KQ2E
Interesting concept there Dave.
One of the MOSs I had was 31v20 ! You got it going on brother !
Pertinent info on ham radio and p.o.t.a. To me the immediate weather from a lake or park at a moments notice is most important.
Super 👍👍👍
Good stuff Dave.

Awesome video, brother! I just want to commend you on how far you've come in such a short amount of time. I hope to hear you on the air. 73 DE KO4MXO.

Really glad you like your Ham Radio. I need to get mine out and blow the dust off of it. Maybe one day we meet on the Airways. 73`s And I Enjoyed It
Are you participating in winter field day? Also do you find bodies of water affect propagation for you?
Does your Jeep have an EMP Shield ???
Outstanding
Dave, have you ever used the WSPR mode? Great way to test an antenna config. W4EMB.
Hi there, long time subscriber, huge fan. I wanted to share that you could use a simple screen capturing software to make sharing this a bit more structured. Best wishes to you and yours!
One of the main issues with evaluating propagation is that it changes so much seasonally.
My old 1978 sierra wood burning stove went out this morning.i woke up !!! Colder than a mother in law's.love.im just checkin on you boys.its 25 degrees in kentucky.
can you put in the notes software & websites and people so we can have on paper. Thanks
Ha I recognized the majority of those calls doing FT8. It can be addictive.
What kind of mobile antenna do you have on your vehicle Dave?
Hey Dave it's really good to see that you've taken a interest in ham radio do you do any CW? and are you participating in Winter Field Day?
I'm interested in getting into Ham. What's the best direction for me to start?
Can this be done without a compute? Working on my tech license now, 73's
I know nothing about this subject. Will someone tell me what the point of "activating parks" is please? Thank you.
Is there a useful purpose for the POTA database of verified parks?
Tree a possum eh? cool vid.

What program is that.
A civilian CEOI needs to be set up for security ! With daily passwords and so on !
Interesting.
So your communicating without using cell phone or Wi-Fi service that can be tracked? 🤷🏻♂️
Nice country
You say that this system(first digital system doing parks) is completely off grid. But that’s not entirely true is it? Can’t your signal still be picked up via triangulation efforts by certain enforcement operations?
Thanks Dave
