      Rosie - A Girl On A Journey I’m planning for the future, I completed my first degree a year ago so it will be a career change for me so I’m just really trying to get all the info I possibly can. I think the only thing I worry about now is being able to properly fund myself as I’ll be leaving my full time job. Was midwifery a career change for you? Or do you have any info you could share on making a career change into midwifery along with how to fund yourself whilst studying, that would be really helpful!

      abigail asare abigail asare yes, midwifery was a huge career change for me - I’m actually planning a video on this but I was an actress before so a HUGE change in industry and a massive leap into the unknown! I’ll be getting that video live over the next couple of weeks so definitely check back for it! 😊 x

      Do let me know if there anything else you’d like to see a video on - there are huge cross-overs between Nursing and Midwifery so I’m happy to help!
      Good luck for your training! X

    Hi Rosie, congrats on your videos...could you please tell me how can I become community midwife?I assume they do not have shifts right?I have recently given birth and the midwife that visited me at home told me that if I want to study midwifery and then work for community I will not have to do shifts.Is that true?

    When you have a long night following a long day are you working for 24 hours then?

    • @RosieAGirlOnAJourney
      @RosieAGirlOnAJourney  4 роки тому

      Tonima Islam hey, no you would never work 24 hours, it would be a night shift which would end at approx 8am, then you’d go home, sleep in the day a bit, sleep a bit more at night and come back in for the long day shift the following morning starting approx 7.30am.
      Hope that helps 😊 x

      Rosie - A Girl On A Journey thank you for your help. But how about if you have a long night after a long day?

    • @RosieAGirlOnAJourney
      @RosieAGirlOnAJourney  4 роки тому +1

      Tonima Islam again, it wouldn’t be one shift following on from another - you will never work more than the 12.5 hours in a row. In that case it would be a day shift, finishing around 8pm, go home, sleep, get up in the morning, do whatever you want in the day, nap a bit and then go to work at 7.30pm then next day for your night shift. 😊 x

      Rosie - A Girl On A Journey thank you, I’m just becoming a first year so I didn’t wanna seem like I was asking a silly question😂🤦🏽‍♀️

    • @RosieAGirlOnAJourney
      @RosieAGirlOnAJourney  4 роки тому

      Tonima Islam no such thing as a silly question hun - I’m always happy to help! The NHS may work us hard but they would never expect us to work 24 hours straight; that would be cruel!! X

    As an aspiring midwife - this is so helpful! Thank you for sharing. Can I ask, how does the shift pattern work whilst on placement? I’ve got two children and am looking to change career when my smallest starts school! 😌

    • @parkerandme6506
      @parkerandme6506 4 роки тому

      Also, very interesting that you were in the performing industry before - I’m a Performing Arts teacher! Did you find you built up lots of transferable skills? Sorry for all the questions!

    • @RosieAGirlOnAJourney
      @RosieAGirlOnAJourney  4 роки тому +1

      Parker and Me absolutely - so many transferrable skills, plus you will always have something to chat with the couples about - it’s all life experience!
      Not sure I understand your question about the shift pattern? Do you mean for flexible working or generally? Flexible working tends to be a 2 week pattern where I work but I imagine this varies between hospitals, but otherwise there is no pattern, it’s whatever shifts you are given...
      hope that helps! R x

    • @parkerandme6506
      @parkerandme6506 4 роки тому

      Rosie - A Girl On A Journey Thank you for replying. You’re right - lots of transferable skills to take from teaching! Sorry, I wasn’t very clear - I meant when you’re studying at university but go on placement. You work the shifts you’re given, but are they usually given in advance? Do you tend to work more hours per week or less when on placement as opposed to being a NQM? Does that make sense?! 🙈

    plz what does it mean "long day" and" night day .....how many hours it takes ..from what am to...???

    • @RosieAGirlOnAJourney
      @RosieAGirlOnAJourney  2 роки тому

      A long day shift or long night shift are 12.5 hours.
      Each hospital will have slightly different times for these shifts but generally around 7.30 until 8 (either night or day)

    Really great video. I do wonder about the annual leave thing you mention. You said you get over 20 days. Cant you just put in the work calendar that you want to be off a couple weeks in advance or do they always choose days off for you?

    I love your videos! Hoping to start training in the next few years, current a fashion buyer so would be a big change. Can I ask how far in advance you get your rotas? Would love some videos about the application process, any experiences you had prior to applying etc. Did you do an access course? Thanks so much! Xx

    • @RosieAGirlOnAJourney
      @RosieAGirlOnAJourney  4 роки тому

      Becky Thompson generally the Rota is released about 6-8 weeks in advance so you’ve got a reasonable amount of notice 😊
      Ooh ok, I’ll add it into my content planner and do something about my application process and things like that.
      I didn’t do an access course, but know lots of people who have done. Best of luck with your transition - here if you have any questions! X

    Do you have any tips for doing night shifts? I am a student starting 2nd year and have been given my rota to start nights end of September for the first time! Would be really helpful as I love your videos xx

    • @RosieAGirlOnAJourney
      @RosieAGirlOnAJourney  4 роки тому +1

      INxoxoxo I’ve got a video on my channel with a night-shift routine on it which might help - for me, I try to nap before my first and then sleep all day between nights as much as possible. Then I eat breakfast when I get up and have dinner on my break on shift.... drink loads of water too, it really helps! 😊 Good Luck!
      I’ll try and get something up with a bit more info soon! X

    Hello Rosie, Thank you for sharing this with us. I was wandering if a part-time midwife (half hours) would work therefore 1 day and a half or their hours would be dispatched into multiple days? Thank you !

      Thanks Rosie! I’ve been out of education for a while and have an unrelated degree. I’ve been looking into access courses in midwifery to back up my uni applications since I never did a Science based A Level which majority of unis require for midwifery.
      Watching your videos and hearing your perspective has been one of the biggest motivators for me, so thanks again.
      It would be interesting to hear what motivated you to pursue midwifery and if you had any prior experience in other jobs before embarking on your midwifery journey. I’ve been in a managerial role for a while now and, despite multitudes of research into midwifery as well as soul searching to figure out what it is I want to contribute to in life, I haven’t actually met any ‘real life’ midwives, nor experienced any aspect of a birth, so hearing your preconceived expectations vs the reality of the role would be very interesting 😊

      Ellie Parker you’ve absolutely read my mind - without giving too much away you definitely need to check out my next video which is coming out on Thursday - it will answer a lot of your questions! 😊
      I also went into it from another career; something I’m going to cover in another video - I was an actress - and also had no experience of the role or of birth etc so don’t worry about that!! 😊
      Glad my videos have helped - please feel free to reach out with any questions at any time! Always happy to help! X

      I’ve just started my training (on Monday). I’m 28 & married (& a songwriter) & so always looking for guidance on how to find that lovely balance between work/study & life. I’d love to know how you unwind/relax & also I would love to know how you stay connected to your partner when you do big blocks of nights etc. I really appreciate your realistic approach & openness to share your learning. I’m hoping to start a blog for midwives/healthcare workers providing holistic ideas to rejuvenate. It was inspiring from my years of working in the social care sector. No wanting to burn off but to thrive & provide the best care possible for others & those I love/myself. Sorry for the essay!! Thank you Rosie! Xxxx

    Hi Rosie 👋new subscriber here. thank you for your videos have been enjoying all of them. Please can you share your experience with access course into midwifery? If you did one, and did you knew straight away that you wanted to do midwifery? Or did you have other options in mind such nursing, social work etc? 😊

    • @RosieAGirlOnAJourney
      @RosieAGirlOnAJourney  3 роки тому +1

      Hey, thanks for subscribing - glad you're finding my channel useful. I didn't do an access course, so can't really share my experience with that but I know many people who have done them and found them really useful. Regarding your second question, I'm actually going to do a video about this but no, I didn't know straight away, I actually did a whole other degree and 5 years of another career before I started my training so don't worry if it's not all completely clear right now! :-) xx
