I dont think Torgal will hav a bad fate, its too easy to extract emotion from that and predictable. That being said everything else will be tragic. Need play arts kai Torgal
Cid is voiced by Ralph Ineson, an incredible British actor who might best be known these days as the father character in The Witch or the titular character in The Green Knight. He's also been in Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, the British version of The Office and First Knight. Love Ineson's voice- it's utterly dripping with personality and character. Very leathery and worn. It's so distinctive!
I was going to post this. They really got some great voice talent. I had just saw him in The Witch not to long before I heard his voice as Cid. Great casting.
Regarding the "JRPG term controversy", I found an interesting take on Maximillian Dood's reaction video that I wanted to share with you: "About the JRPG thing, I have a bit of a unique perspective I'd like to share. I lived 8 years in Japan. Went over there to try and break into the industry... actually did it for a couple of years and worked at a very well-known company for a couple of years (not Square Enix). Anyway, I think the term JRPG was taken as offensive for Japanese developers for a number of reasons. It's not as simple as the negative connotations that sprung up at around the same time as FFXIII, though that's obviously a big part of it. What happens is that, for the longest time (and even today), they've used the term "youge" as a derogative for western games. They didn't even consider them "games" proper (see, "videogames", according to them, were "a Japanese thing" -- and I'm quoting Hideo Kojima here.) I was actually shocked at how disdainful the term "youge" actually was when I went there. Well, right at the time FFXIII came out, the Japanese game industry was declining rapidly in terms of market share. They needed to sell games in the west to survive, but they weren't doing it well. Today, the Japanese game industry is a cell-phone gacha fest, a shadow of its former self. Western developers were putting out console games, good ones, and selling gang-busters. And now Japanese developers were like "how are we supposed to compete with this? It's not fair! We don't have the budget, we don't have the sales!" And it's against this backdrop that the term JRPG began to be used. Regardless of the negative connotations it had over here, over there it was much worse, because 1) they were losing literally 90% of the market, 2) they'd always thought of themselves as making RPGs and 3) they had the term "youge" as an analog. So they automatically assumed that JRPG was as bad as "youge", and, especially as you're losing almost all of your market, that's gotta sting. What I think is that the term was being used negatively by some people at the start, but not all of them, and certainly it's become purely descriptive nowadays. But in Japan they resented the rebranding of the genre, and assumed it was like when they rebranded western games as "youge". The Japanese game industry narrative is this: "RPGs" were not intuitive and could not be enjoyed by a mainstream audience until the Great Yuji Horii came and made Dragon Quest; and they were a hit in Japan but not in the West, because the games were, in FF creator Hironobu Sakaguchi's words, too "complex" for Western audiences (nevermind that the genre originated in the West - but prejudice is never rational). However, thanks to the cutting-edge graphics pioneered by Final Fantasy, they started selling in the West, too. "Final Fantasy" is the big Japanese RPG franchise that sells in the West, too. Anyway, Yoshi P in particular has to have taken the JRPG classification personally, as he was one of the few Japanese gamers who actually did appreciate Western games. He played the original Ultima Online! He played Everquest! So for him to hear that term, and having "youge" as a point of reference, it must have really been awful. Its...complicated... Japanese society as a whole has both disdain and admiration -both superiority and inferiority complexes- with regards to the West. I would have trouble understanding it if I did not have very specific point of reference myself. Well, here's hoping someone takes the trouble to read this post, and that it helps shed some light on the issue."
What is crazy is they didn't lose 90% of the market to western RPGs. Mass Effect 2 and Oblivion were both incredibly popular, but they sold less than FF13. Dragon Age Inquisition was GOTY, but it sold less than FF15. Skyrim is the only western RPG that really hit mainstream and got the 30+ million sales, and Bioware kind of crumbled after Anthem.
Man with this game it just really shows how much attention to detail they're putting into every aspect. The visual storytelling is just so sick so far. Can't wait for june man
The vocal performances so far have been fantastic. I think this is some of the best English voice acting I've ever heard from a Final Fantasy game. And it's bolstered by a great script and beautifully crafted body language/facial expressions. Also, I was pleased to see you had the same sentiments about Benedikta hurting Torgal that I did, lol. When that happened, I was immediately like, "Well, that's that. She has to die now." XD
It is one of the best voice acting FF games I think ,evn better than 7re's. As an Asian gamer, normally I would choose Japanese voice version when it comes to the FF games, but FF16's english voice acting is too good to unselect😂.Besides it's Medieval style after all,English sounds more reasonable to me.
@@Thundercidder Well Koji Fox and the Team Behind Ff14 Heavensward should be given credit for that. FF14 Heavensward is also somewhat medieval theme - knights and Dragons - summons/eikons usually takes a human form. They were the one who wrote the story of Ff16. Since I am a FF14 player myself, I can confirm that they do write on both versions. That is why if you will listen to Japanese and English they have different delivery of lines to suite the players, but the story is there a 100% if that makes sense.
One thing I noticed between Cid, Benedicta, and Clive. When they transform, Beni and Cid have blue eyes. Clive has yellowish eyes. So I’m wondering if the Garuda in the last fight is not in fact Benidecta…
you are correct they have said that the eye colors will tell us if the dominant is or has lost control (at times you will see yellow too wich i imagine is a middle ground)
SE has been very amazing in the camerawork for their latest series these years. I just love looking at how nice the cutscenes are for SE. Always a treat
And it’s awesome to rediscover your channel, “Phil UP” and to see how much you’ve grown! Thought you seemed familiar! I fondly remember your coverage for FFXV and shared in your disappointment. Just like you however, I will always be a FF fan for life! I’m super stoked for FFXVI! Cheers, mate!
26:02 The only thing that bothers me in this part is the back trees and grass which don't move with all the wind. We are talking about a PS5 game, so the more realistic, the better. All the rest is simply amazing!
The character models aren't on the same level of FFVIIR, but everything else is either better or on par. And better for sure is the writing and acting. Music may or may not be equal. FFVIIR has one of the finest soundtracks I have ever heard, period. But already the music sounds promising here.
I kinda disagree on the character model point. I always thought Cloud , Tifa and the others others looked a little too perfect (?) and smooth . Yeah it's probably more pleasing to the eye but it seems a little uncanny. In FF16 every character model feels a little imperfect and rugged which gives it more flavour imo.
@@siddhantkamra7779 Yeah, I get where you’re coming from. I still think the actual character models in ffVIIR do have higher poly count though. Still, yeah, the FFXVI models look amazing either way. FFXVI may be the best since FFX.
@@CJTranceAddiction oh yeah I agree the models in FF7r look amazing too. It's just the first time I saw Cloud closeup , I couldn't help but think "Haven't you been thru hell(not that he remembers) , how do you look like you've just had a facial 😅."
I think it looks great. Yes the performances are top tier and awesome. I can tell I'll be very invested in the story. I'm a big devil may cry fan, so the combat looks superb to me. Only criticism is I hope we can turn off certain UI aspects like damage numbers, I find them to be too distracting and would rather see more of the action and models. Additionally, I think the quick time prompt did happen quite a bit, but it's very flashy and not too big of a deal. I imagine though that subsequent playthroughs or attempts to get better scores will have you feeling a bit tired of them.
I really enjoyed watching your reaction and hype. I also agree with you about the Victory Fanfare! I was very upset too, when it was absent from previous mainline games. So glad it’s back! Thanks, Soken!
