How to Develop a Natural Point of Aim (Shooting tips featuring MilSpec Mojo)

  • Earlier this month I had the pleasure of hitting the range for a few hours with MilSpec Mojo, Steve Pinkman, and Lucas Botkin of T-Rex Arms. During this snippet we were working on simply getting the gun to the target quickly and being ready to shoot when it gets there.
    Whether you shoot "tactically" for work or self defense, or you're a "gamer" pushing your skills in competitive shooting, these skills apply. The goal is always to get the gun to the target as expeditiously as possible with as little movement as possible. This doesn't change for those of you who are cross eye dominant either, you still move the gun to your eye either way.
    Be sure to drop a comment if you enjoy this style of video! I may have to get back out there to shoot with those guys again...

    Very interesting but seems like you had an unintended discharge at 5:45... Just by the terrible flinch in your head and the fact that you were speaking about prepping the trigger... It happens, maybe unload your weapon before trying to explain that.

    Thank you for this. Mojo said it best in that you explained this concept in a way that made sense for it to click. We all hear and nod our heads at "practice sight picture/sight alignment with dryfire" and keep it at the surface level. The explanation that you provided made it click for me. The ability to trust your sight picture through the natural POA via practice to the point of nature was something of a paradigm shift for me.

      @@for_4_four205 Yep... borrowed gun with a modified trigger. Called an aggressive trigger prep. There's no negligence as I'm downrange on a target and intentionally taking the trigger to the prep point.

    One good thing that I thought about my self was, when playing games as soon as I see a target and know I have to shoot I don't think about waiting till my sights are completely inline, I shoot as soon as I see the dot come up or even before if there close enough.

    Also I just recently started doing dry fire and I just had a couple questions regarding your video. During dry fire should we only-or primarily work on natural POA and keep eyes closed, then open? Also you spoke about grip angles and different weapons. Do you recommend only sticking with one grip angle such as Glock or change it up and does that become a hinderance to training if you change it up?

    • @Joe_Farewell
      @Joe_Farewell  2 роки тому +4

      So I usually check my NPOA at the beginning of a dryfire session and if there's an issue I'll work it a bit but it's not something that needs a ton of time if you have it down. The best way to get really proficient is to stick with one grip angle, or even better with just one gun. That being said, with some dedication you can quickly acquire a NPOA with any gun if you put the time in. It usually takes me a few reps with a Glock to get the NPOA but it's doable.
      Side note, I have a dryfire program that's all online and video based. I'm biased, but it's a damn good foundation for dryfire whether or not you shoot 3-gun. You can find it at bit.ly/DryfireMastery.

    • @Joe_Farewell

      I believe that was a prototype belt from T. Rex Arms that never was released. Though I could be wrong. I just showed up and Lucas tossed me a rig to use as this was a completely impromptu range day.

    Good stuff! Well worded and great demonstrations. My heart skipped a beat everytime you went downrange while it's hot, especially into another firers lane. Bullets have right of way! You and your crew might have a system in place for that unseen on camera but please don't incourage new shooters in the community to blatantly disregard range safety/etiquette especially for defense training, creating habits that might carry into the public.
    Big fan of MOJO though, love seeing you open to learning more as well as your videos.

      Maintaining awareness of everyone shooting around us all the time. This range is at least 270 degrees and there were 6 of us out there putting in work around each other. At no point in time did I violate any safety rules of the range. But good looking out. 🤙🏼
