Thank you for who you are, Wayne. I'm a trans woman with a religious conservative family, and they are struggling with my identity. Because I love and respect and trust them so much, it makes it hard for me to accept myself, though I am trying. Thank you so much for working so hard to expand your concept of love, it's a hard thing to do. Your daughter is the first trans superhero on TV, but as far as I'm concerned you are a superhero too ❤️

In the UK, Nicole would have protected under the Equality Act (2010). Trans people must be allowed to use the bathroom of their identified gender in Britain. I hope this comes to the US soon.

My wife and I are going through the same thing. I believe that if a child is up front about who they are and want to be that they should have that right. I believe that parents should support their children and love them no matter what.

This DAD deserves a medal for supporting his Daughter.
As Michelle Obama is fond of saying, "it is hard to hate up close." Mr. Maine's experience does not reflect the experience of most who have taken up stakes against the trans community nor are many opponents biased towards a willingness to evolve. Hats off to Nicole for her courage and to her family for their support.

I wish my parents would have been this supportive. But in the 60's and 70's it was okay to "beat the straight" into you kid if you felt they needed it. Amazing I even survived my childhood.
you are an amazing person Kristy. i was born in the early 70s and even in my childhood i knew NOTHING of trans girls/guys/women/men. it's like the society wanted to pretend such people didn't exist. that you came through that at an even earlier time is testament i believe, to your strength. i can't begin to tell you how much respect i have for that. i'm glad you can be who you are and live in a considerably more open society
