the final design looks sooooo cleannn! love all the exposed electronics and angular form. so impressive you were able to pull this off with just tinkercad too. it goes to show how even these kinds of more complex projects are fairly accessible now. very inspirational. nice work!
Yeah man TinkerCAD almost made me give up haha, but I was able to figure out some little tricks to get around limitations.
Never imagined it'd look how it does today, but I really just leaned into he angular design and had so much fun shaping the side buttons to match.
Exposed electronics is such a vibe, I've got some transparent tech builds planned which will add to the setup look.

@ndI'd recommend learning Fusion 360 or another CAD program unless there was a particular reason you wanted to stick to TinkerCAD hahaha. Really cool you were able to do it. Love angular and industrial design.
Edit: I see why you chose not to use Fusion 360 in another comment. Licensing for a product you profit off of is definitely a big pain.
Bloody hell, the actual video and story telling is so good! I love the aesthetics of the mouse. And the "Ah, I remember why I let the project fizzle out 3 months ago." is waaaay too relatable. I'm making a lasercut curved ergo mech keyboard. It's taken way too long.
Ohhh man that project fizzle... it's a struggle for sure, sometimes a little time helps you suppress the struggles so you think "it'll be easy" and have another crack haha.
Wow that sounds awesome! I've looked at a few ergo curved keyboards, doing the stacked acrylic layers was legit the way I considered making my own too.
I hope the project works out great once you breakthrough the current hurdles!

I dunno if it's a thing yet, I've only seen Optimum Tech's vid on it, and when I searched maybe one other "meme style" attempt at a 3D printed mouse haha.
Should be though, the world of 3D printing really enhances our abilities to create bespoke products.
This channel is like the perfect intersection of Ben Vallack meets optimum tech

I wish my mouse project could find a collaborator, I have this clay mold for my ideal clawgrip mouse (using the MZ1 principles) but have no 3d printer nor experience in designing the thing using existing PCBs. However I know exactly what the base design can be using the clay mold and how it can be improved structurally using some optimised shape tuning.
I'm not a fan of the CAD tools since they don't produce organic results with curves and stuff.. it might be better to do the prototyping in Blender3D or something.

You could also try using Lightweight PLA, it has a nice texture too in the hand.
Ohh thanks for the tip Tarbard, I considered lightweight options at the beginning like CF infused. But forgot to order some as the project went on.
That could be a great revisit for a part 2, testing out different exotic filaments to find a good strength vs weight for it's final form 🤔
@@camshand I bought the eSUN brand Light Weight PLA. Fun to print with, I used it for a can coozie and some other things, the texture is somewhere in-between paper and fabric so it feels nice in the hand.

Actually was thinking to get the cheapest Logitech hero sensor mouse, and then try to 3d print something similar to the discontinued g700s ( because it is amazing for carpel tunnel , for people who don't want to use a trackball )

hi do you happen to have the measurements for the pcb since I'm planning to do something similar but I don't have calipers for precise measurements.
You should definitely upgrade that battery to a lipo or something along those lines as theyre significantly lighter than nimh batteries like you are using.
My lightest mouse is no longer used and is not my lightest mouse when there is a single double A in it. Without the battery and wiring it itd be my lightest and i might even still be using it.

Which Tablet are you using?
put honeycombs in all the surfaces and it will drop to 29 grams
yeah I tried some weight savings on the base, it's really tricky as once I take material out from certain parts the PLA plastic flexes to much under my grip.
For sure can play more with future models.

Last I saw only free for personal use, and since I earn revenue from the projects through UA-cam and may want to sell files in the future I've just kept it seperate for now. I used to have a commercial license through a previous job but can't afford it at the moment
Is the stl available for download?
Not just yet, I've got some slight tweaks I want to make to the standoffs to make them stronger when 3D printing via FDM, the do a bit of weight reduction and add some cross bracing to support.
It's a tricky one also being made for my hand size haha, but I am hoping to put up files eventually.
The design reminds of deconstructive architecture. I thinking constructo mouse for a name. Ties back to the design and actual process. 🎤 💥😁
