My first clubs were driver, 3 wood George Nicol 2/4/6/8/10 irons and a hickory putter, my father gave them to me when he payed the 2 Guineas to make me a junior member in 1964 when l was 11. Played with them until l got to single figures when l was 14. I carried on using the putter until l turned pro, then used an original ping anser for many years. I am using a putter now l have had for over 30 years and it still holes it’s fair share.
@@fatgolfscotland no unfortunately as the clubs were traded by my father when l got my first full set. A set of Slazenger plus, thin as a razor blade as most clubs were in those days. My mother has the original putter somewhere in her attic. You may be interested that in 1972 l tried a Wilson staff driver with one of the first granite shafts, tried it on a cold November morning and the shaft shattered into pieces as l was later told they were experiencing problems as some shafts were constructed around a solid circular mould and others were just layered on a steel core. These shattered for a pastime, years later mcgregor started using aluminium shafts, ok if your swing speed was about 80 but l managed to bend everyone, keep up the vids and it is nice to see your still lower than your son. My son’s handicap is just lower than mine but l still love playing especially as he still can’t beat me. I’m in my 70’s now play as often as l can and just love it still. Even beat my age a few times a year. If l am up in your area l will give you a call.
@@fatgolfscotland not sure you got my second message. Unfortunately apart from my original putter everything went when l got my first full set of Slazenger plus. It’s hard being a pro especially in the 70’s as there was not the money about like today. However if you have a work ethic and confidence in yourself it goes a long way. I was lucky to have the backing of my family and to start with l had good bosses who helped a lot. One was an old Ryder cup player who taught me about handling pressure, never about how to play as he said everyone w swings differently. As long as the basics are sound. I played competitive golf for a few years then had a serious car accident that put paid to playing at the highest levels. I did get back to + 4 in my 40’s but drifted out to 3 now as lm in my 70’s but occasionally get it going. If l get up your way l would love to meet up. Keep going with the vlogs as l always enjoy them. Best regards Rob
