    How to Safely Strip Paint from Woodwork
    Paint stripping is a project that can be detrimental to a person's health. For that reason, Mauro strongly advises that homeowners take a number of steps to protect themselves.
    If there is a chance that any of the paint being stripped was applied before 1978, it needs to be tested for lead. Lead tests can be bought at most paint supply stores and home centers. Mauro used the LeadCheck Swabs test kit, manufactured by 3M.
    When choosing a paint stripper, check the label closely and choose one that reads "Zero VOC." "Low VOC" paint strippers can be misleading, since there are few regulations determining the concentration of VOCs that can be considered "low". Mauro used Smart Strip Advanced Paint Remover and laminated paper, both manufactured by Dumond.
    The other materials required for paint stripping, including the plastic putty knife, drop cloths, disposable paint brush, mask and gloves, can all be found at home centers and paint supply stores.
    Getting Started with a Chisel
    Tom suggests buying a few chisels with a variety of different widths, all made of high-quality steel. These can be purchased at home centers or woodworking supply stores.
    To sharpen a chisel, usually a honing stone or a whetstone can get the job done. Tom used a diamond whetstone, manufactured by DMT. For more serious sharpening jobs, a grinder with a chisel sharpening jig can be used. Those can found at lumberyards and specialty woodworking stores.
    How to Connect an Ice Maker like a Pro
    While there are plenty of homeowner-friendly kits available for ice-maker hookups, Richard suggests doing a little extra work to ensure a secure connection that will last for a long time.
    Richard replaced the plastic tubing with copper tubing, and instead of using a saddle valve, he connected it to the cold water line using a compression connection with a multi-turn valve, which he soldered into the cold water pipe using a T fitting. All of these materials are available at home centers and plumbing supply houses.

    I think Richard was very lucky with his “test” hole, that he didn’t drill through a cable or pipe. Also I agree with others that small bore copper pipe can easily kink when the fridge is pushed back into place.

      My ex boss was a mofo he knew every dirty trick in the book in order to get a call back. I was just the peon doing the installs hehe. As u said though very rare do u have issues with braided but it can happen just not as much as copper or plastic.

      Would require the whole room to be masked off, and the cameraman, homeowner and painter would all be wearing respirators and protective gear. Additionally, any residue they created would have to be immediately removed, but this is usually more applicable for cutting walls that have lead paint, creating lead dust

    • @flat-earther
      @flat-earther 2 роки тому

      Nothing. They just like to get people scared of lead. The didn't sand anything so no problem. If they sanded anything no matter what material lead or not you should wear a respirator so that lead talk is just to scare people for no reason.

    noticed 2 issues. One she said she wanted to keep the original varnish. The outro says that theres no way to leave the varnish while stripping the paint but she did just that on her own. Two: why gouge the face of the wood to conduct the lead test instead of an insconpicous area.
