I'm not a pro athlete, but as someone who has had several serious ankle sprains in his live, every single one hurts more than the previous one. My last one was just a simple rolled ankle and in the moment the pain was comparable to when I broke a leg. The pain recedes, of course, but I don't think all of it was "showmanship" because in the moment it does feels extremely painful.

Well Mike evidently you are new to football. They can work small miracles with on field treatment including the use of "Dr. T" Not a surprise they got him back on the field. The next day is the problem and reportedly he was barely able to walk the next morning. Have no fear they will rehab the ankle and he should be back out on the field this weekend. He does have a high pain tolerance, he is tough as nails. Sorry to disappoint you that he didn't have to leave the game Monday night.
I've reinjured a badly sprained knee before and reacted pretty much the same as Mahomes (minus the jogging around after). There's this moment where after you grab you go still and take inventory. Wait. Am I hurt again? Don't move. Don't want to know. What makes you think he wasn't hurting or not admitting to hurting a bit? This guy has played on injuries before. I know people hate the Chiefs, but Mahomes is not a "drama" player.
Ankles can be like that. I've done a lot of work over the last 5 years to strengthen my feet (barefoot all the time in the house and yard, barefoot style shoes at all other times, barefoot jump rope). It's a slow process and you need to be mindful of over-training your achilles. But it's done some wonders. I've had dozens of rolled ankle moments with zero pain whatsoever. The worst one happened while jogging up a mountain trail - that one hurt - but 15 minutes later I was jogging back down the other side with zero issue. So it's possible that's what his experience was in this situation!
