    The 250 looks plenty fast for woods riding to me.

      For people normal weight...about 170..they are. But, when I'm spending 9k for a dirtbike, longevity is going to play a part, and this is by far the worst possible bike for longevity.

    250's definitely need more frequent maintenance but I've seen far too many good riders on small bore bikes smoke the 300 and 450 crowd to say its not enough power. I'm 205lbs and prefer a 250 over a 450 all day. Yes I've owned both, but in the woods, especially on the east coast, I'm faster on a lighter, more nimble bike with less power. I'd argue most people are, not to mention safer.

      I can agree with most of this, Jason. The power difference of a 250 and 450 isn't going to make the difference of any positions, even in motocross, which is more of my specialty. However, being on a budget and being 220lbs, the 450 is the only option for me in MX, and the 350 is perfect for me offroad. 250 and 350 are basically the same weight and inertia anyway.

    I have the xcf250 and the 2nd gear revs out too fast because of the different cross country gearing. I changed to a 13 T and ride 3rd more at 150Lbs and it’s a beast in the woods.

      get the ECU remapped by Blais Racing, 99 bucks...you'll love the difference, if you like cleaner torqee'r punch.

    Theres always the guys that say 250f's need top end rebuilds often or sooner the 450f's, but never have experience with it. Rich Lafferty Racing on UA-cam has 225 hours on his 250 xcf and 15-20 hours between oil changes. Theres another guy on here who has 400 hours on his yz250fx, and yamaha recommends 30 hour oil changes.

    So the verdict isssss... ? Im a svelt 205LBs and I didnt find any lack of power on that bike. LoL Better than decent torque and they shred when you run em on the wick! Great JDay racing bikes and even mx track. 350’s and 450’s can be a little hairy on the trail. I feel like ktm 250xcfs and sxfs are very impressive power wise. I can chug mine or rip it straight up a steep greasy hill. They’re known as 450 eaters I thought.

    If you don't mind me asking what do you weigh? I"m about 210 and wondering if this would be under powered for me! I also wonder what your lap times were since you said you could get out of mistakes quicker! I tend to make a lot of those! Thanks for posting the video.

    • @mxgryan
      @mxgryan  4 роки тому

      Appreciate ya Len!
      I'm about 218. Lap times probably similar, BUT the longevity of the 450 keeps me on the 450, its much easier on my wallet. The 250 / 350 longevity should be about the same, so if you are on the fence, go 350!

    Review looked great. I’m planning on buying this model soon and was wondering how it would differ from the MX models. On a technical question how do you get all the diagnostic information on you video feed? Is it something you have to superimpose on the video or does it record it in real time with you video footage?

    • @mxgryan
      @mxgryan  4 роки тому

      Thanks Bryan! I believe the difference is just rear wheel and tank mostly. As for the GoPro metrics, any GoPro Hero 5 and newer has that feature, built right into the camera GPS! Thanks dude!

    I'm 5'11 + 220 pounds, current 2020 KLX300R owner.. Been looking for something to upgrade to.. Was thinking the KTM 350XCF... Stronger and faster, but more importantly...LIGHTER than this damn 280+ pound KLX 300R lol.. Thoughts ? 250 a step backwards, or should I just go 350XCF ? I also ride a 2019 SV650 so...responsible with the throttle hand..

      @@everett703 Word. I actually still have the KLX300R. Think there’s about 30hours on it. I was itching for a new bike but, the 300R hasn’t given me any problems. Starts right up, never cuts off, and just runs. Was my first dirtbike ever so, I just said I’m gonna see it through. Very rare I get it up into 6th gear and floor it so, there is still a lot of bike left in it for me to experiment and learn with. When I do upgrade, it’ll probably be the KTM 350XCF.

    What do you mean when you say longevity

    • @mxgryan
      @mxgryan  4 роки тому +1

      When I say that, I mean useful life of the bike as well as cost of ownership. For example...the 450 has not only larger parts like piston and valves that allow everything in the motor to generally wear slower...but also BECAUSE it has so much more power, you can do everything you do on the 250 at a much lower rpm, and therefore less stress on the motorcycle. Because of this, 450s general take longer to wear out, require valve adjustments, top ends, etc. They are a little cheaper to own and last longer.

    What class rider are you??
    I'm 230lbs and have 2021 gasgas ex250f same thing as the ktm 250xcf with s couple minor differences, and the thing absolutely Rips but then again I am an "A" level rider and I know how to ride a bike whether it is a 500,450, 250
    If your used to lugging along and twisting a handful of throttle to go fast on straights
    And aren't experienced in clutching you would think the 250 is slow, fact is it will smoke the 450 in the tight woods.
    And I bet with a little practice your lap times would be faster on the 250 even if it felt slower to you.
    And you never ran that thing out in second on this video cause thet Rev to the moon and pull all the way.
    You know what they say about opinions.....?
    There's mine!

    • @mxgryan

      Whats up man.
      Thank you for the lecture, but I'm a KTM tech for my day job so I'm very familiar with the bikes.
      In MX I ride B class regionally and A class locally. I dont race much offroad but when I do I normally ride 30 C.
      As for lap times, of course the 250 can go just as fast, nobody said it couldn't. The point is that you're riding it harder to go that faster and im not made of money. You get TONS more longevity with a 450...so I ride that in moto and a 350 or 300 2t offroad.
      A 250f is the least fun and most expensive bike I could ride.
