Brilliant video Andy
Love the mix of gear really opens up camping to all budgets
The MT900 Forclaz sleeping bags is one of the best sleeping bags around and is better than a lot of bags at twice or three times the price! I have tried many quality bags and often they are bad fitting and too tight or the ultra thin and light zips constantly snag, bad fitting hoods with no structure, baffling designs that clump the down up and they often contain less filling on the back of the bag than the front, which if you are a side sleeper is a big no no. You back ends up being much colder than your front. I have had RAB, Berghaus, OEX, Cumulus hand made to size, and Marmot all down ones and all have had issues mentioned. The Forclaz MT900 sleeping bag does have a great zip, V baffling to help stop down migration in all the baffles, the the top and back contain equal fill of down, the hood is one of the best you will find too, it contains a good amount of down and is solid fitted structure and not just an after though on the bag like a bag sewn on top with down in. They also come in four sizes of body fit which is unheard of in off the peg bags. I'm 6.3, 16 stone and the XL size bag fits lovely and roomy in all the right areas.
It is also a light in weight and well made bad with a great 5 year warranty that Decathlon will stand up to. I have one and my Girl Friend too and she loves hers. Also she uses the Forclaz insulated air mat the red one and this is also great for the price, I have the sit mat you are using too and that is years old and still like new works good. I can't comment on the back packs or tents I have never used them but I could see them being also very good. I do have the 500 down jacket Forclaz also one of the best buys I have had, which is a few years old and going strong and my mates have this jacket too and rate it higher than some very expensive ones. The tent in green or brown would be one of the best buys around but the white is a major flaw for UK
Smashing video mate. Got to say an Aeropress or Aeropress Go is an awesome bit of kit. I've been using mine on at home on daily basis for 3 years now.
It’s really hard to beat Decathlon for value. Good review - thanks, Andy.
8:56 - Can't get over the guy in the back casually taking a piss
When he then started bending over fiddling, I thought, Oh Lord, not a poo too as a finale.
8:37 that dude marking your territory mate!
A friend and i stayed the night at the old reservoir on Saturday and the weather was awesome. A bit pink in places now though. Great video and it's always good to see people using the cheaper gear that some may shy away from.
Cheaper gear always comes into its own when the weather is good, there’s no need for all the expensive stuff, save that for winter or adverse weather conditions.
I have the MT900, sleeping bag. Great bit of kit, various tents and bits of kit, can't complain.
That bag is really good value for money. 800fp, light, compact and I think the comfort rating is spot on too (unlike most bags!).
Looks like good gear, i cant get on with those folding cups though!! I just like a mug that i can hold onto, a morning coffee is one of my favourite parts of camping!
I watched your more recent Decathlon gear video before watching this, and I did say I didn’t like the white tents. Still not sure about it, but this video has raised my opinion of the Decathlon stuff, particularly for summer camping. Nice to think you can get an entire summer kit for a fraction of the price and have a great weekend away with your mates. A very good video thanks and hopefully will encourage more youngsters to get out there for a night or two under the stars 👍🏻🙂
Me and my wife use the Forclaz Mt500 insulated mats. Quoted R Value of 3.3. Currently at £65 at Decathlon. We really like them!
I was one of the 30 camping by the lake there on the same night as you! Can’t believe I stumbled across this video!
@@BackpackingUK yup you certainly did!! It was our first time wild camping! I’ll forward this video to the other guys :) what a small world!
I love my Aeropress Go - - I do think they had made it lighter. I often leave that rubber lid at home.
I think that Forclaz mat will be on my list when my current Ali Express one expires
I use the Aeropress Go all the time. When I'm away, at work and at home too. It's great!
Are you sure you are in Wales? It appears not to be raining. I have had a 7 day camp by the Beacons and it rained for 6 of them in June so I would not leave the waterproofs at home.
Those views are beautiful 🤩
Bloody hell Andy, Im really tempted with that tent. 😂 wonder if the 'it was only £25 off ebay' will wash again with the missus. 😂
Hi Andy.
I was up on Fan Y Big last weekend.
There was a 24 hour marathon going in at the time.
The Decathlon stuff is great value for money. I have a load of stuff from their website last year. Good stuff.
All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧⛺️
I’m genuinely really impressed with their gear. Sometimes they don’t get the credit they deserve!
@@BackpackingUK I think it’s probably because a lot of their stuff is ‘Huntsman’ based, as they do sell a lot of hunting gear, and theirs too many people that probably don’t agree with it…
Great spot. Good to see some different gear. Looked like a successful test. ATB Mark 👍
I was really impressed with all of it. Lots of new kit to be tested and reviewed the next few months!
Great video as usual, I tried the wine holder on your recommendation 👍. Me and a few were there the same weekend, we stayed at the summit of pen y fan due to the stunning weather.
Disappointed with a small group who also camped but lit a fire and left litter but we cleared up as best we could.
( I also spotted your phantom peer in this video😂)
I’ve got another wine trick too, Most Wanted have bought out red wine cans! 187ml.
I bought a Forclaz foam pad and a Forclaz air mattress for £90.
Combined R- value of 5.5
I've yet to test them out in anger so I dont know if the air mattress is going to do the usual "go to sleep on the mattress wake up on the ground" thing 😂
I've heard good things about them though 🤞
Why do you take a folded cup when you have a mug with the aero press? Just a thought but enjoying the decathlon gear show. Have you a discount code from them 😂
you will lost your warranty but on other decathlon tents, I just used acrylic spray paint to get camouflage with brown, grey, ,etc... colors mixed. 8 years later, it still is waterproof. Of course packing made some marks and lines but still good... !!! Zero reaction with the fabric
Great video, just wondered what you thought of the backpack and how it compares to the ospray Atmos backpacks
It’s not in the same league but it’s still a really good backpacking. It’s much lighter too!
Really thinking on getting the MT900 UL backpack, but the recommended max weight of 12kg is a bit turning me off.
Have you used it since and would you recomend it?
Thank you! BTW great videos
Hi Andy, Did you take to sleeping pads? I saw the Forclaz MT 500 and the next morning an Orange one
My mate used the large white MT500. He slept like a baby, 11pm-7am straight through!
Brilliant, I am planning on getting some Decathlon Gear later this month
Hey Andy looks like a great trip, can I just ask, were there plenty of water sources on the route?
Thanks
Great vid as norm. I have the lanshan 2 plus and the decathlon ultralight quick hiker, do you think the tarptent is better than the lanshan?
As in Decathlon vs Lanshan? If so, they’re actually quite different. Both are great for warmer weather. I’m 50:50.
@@BackpackingUK yep I thought that might be the answer, I love decathlon gear, so might have try and get there tarptent to try. Thanks 👍
I'm thinking about buying this tent. I am 198 cm tall. I want to use it mainly solo but also with two people. How tall are you for comparison?
Hi Andy, great vid thanks - Breacons, sorry Bannau are great!! I'm with you on the Decathlon gear - I rate the MT500 walking shoes very highly - done loads of hard miles with no probs - now have the MT900 which are even better (I also own so called higher end brands but default to the Decathlon's) Have 2 MT900 ultralight tents which have been great, never leaked and very stable - trade off being headroom maybe but that's common with the design which is similar to the tarp style tent you used - keep up the good work.
I done this route for the first time a few months ago. It's so weird yet cool, watching someone hike where I've also been. I've never had the experience to say that. Great video, thank you
Nice camp Andy I've only realy tried 2 £3 water bottles and there great 3rd year using so think il have a look when need some new bits heard loads rate the down jackets but I got m,e one which should last me
one of the most important, rarely show, is the repack of tent day after ... Packing process, real dimensions packed, not the ones done in factory or dvertise company demos ;)
I've never failed to get a tent back in the bag so I don't really know what you mean? Sometimes it can be tricky when wet but when tents are dry they're a piece of cake. Start rolling it tightly, don't let it loosen or go off at an angle and you can't go wrong.
Haha you make my day. Now pack back same dimension in stupid small bag marketed to sell, like matrass bag or some other products especially on camping situation avoiding wet ground ;) again good for you and no, thanks I know how to pack as Enduro travel rider...
@@babar69110 I do it everytime. I've never failed to get a sleeping bag back in it's sack either. My mates are the same too. I genuinely don't know what you're doing. As before, start small and tight and don't let it expand whilst rolling.
@@BackpackingUK By example, the matrass, yes, can be rolled and put in the factory bag, but, to be lat without any air, and get the smallest dimensions , it is another story when you are in a hurry... and again are not in the living room floor ;) It makes things far easier when bags are a little bigger, you still can compress at the end. at last, onetigriss understood this and it is a pleasure to fats pack their tents. As a french, with friends we had good fun and jokes with sellers about the selling marketing of some decathlon super small packed products in the shop, which has nothing to do with every day use ;)
So many people around, how do you poop discreetly?
I was out that way on Thursday night, camped on Garreg Las. Stunning area. Carpark was absolutely rammed when i got back Friday afternoon.
Mate how did you get to stay up there ,I got moved on by the farmer, lucky guy
Absolutely amazing place to be ❤
We spotted this range from our last camp at Pen y Fan. This was much better!
@Backpacking UK I must say that I am a bit embarrassed, I lived in the UK (London)for 8 years and always thought that the UK is pretty much flat. How could I be more wrong 🙃🤪😂 Recent trips to Lake District and Highlands change my minds like a million degrees 😅 thanks to guys like you @Backpacking UK or @Paul Messner
Hi Andy, quick question for you, I'm really worried about ticks whilst out hiking, in your experience and many hikes, how often have you had to deal with a tick? Just rough figures if you can answer . Thanks
@@BackpackingUK wow, that very encouraging Andy, never expected that answer! In fact I was almost too scared to ask, glad I did now. Thanks Andy
@@BackpackingUKPurchase some tick tweezers just in case, have them in my pack always.
I rarely get ticks - in many many years maybe 4-6 times. My dog does get them and I remove them before he comes into the tent. If you do transit long grass then tuck you trousers into your socks as the first line of defence. If solo hiking carry a mirror to check the parts you cannot see!
Quick question! Where can you purchase the milk sachets from please anyone? I keep having to pinch a few extra EveryTime I eat out 😅
Amazon, Lakeland milk sachets it’s UHT of course but the taste perfectly acceptable and I normally hate the the taste of UHT.
❤Bannau Brycheiniog.
I see the pronunciation police are having a good day again! Welsh, being such an ancient language is very difficult for non Welsh speakers to fathom. Give it a rest and chill. To the rest of the world the area will always be called the Brecon Beacons and nothing is going to change that. Perhaps you would prefer it if no one came to visit Wales? The only problem there would be that the economy would collapse and unemployment rise by 100% or more!
@@petercollins7848 So much wrong with this, I'm embarrassed for you. If you can't respect, please stay quiet.
@@PurePresentations
What? Just because you say so? I have no problem with Welsh people calling places by their Welsh names - and it should come first, but well known tourist spots that have had an English name for as long as anyone can remember should retain them. I simply don’t believe that it will do Wales any good to deter tourists and others coming to the area by confusing people with this name change. It will be called the ‘Brecon Beacons’ I am sure by most people for my lifetime and beyond.
Great video. Love Decathlon stuff. Quick question: how do you like the OMM chest rig? Does it bounce around at all? Get sweaty?
It’s excellent! Took me over 6 months to get one as they were always out of stock! You can strap it down above and below to stop it bouncing.
Andy spends hours making, editing and sharing the video, and most people just talking about a bloke having a piss :) Thats the internet for ye!
What's the poop situation there? Do you have to cart it back out or just bury it?
I always go for a tactical (do what I need to do before I start hiking!). I’ll try my hardest to keep it in whilst out. Worst case, dig!
Er...I dont see a tree in sight dude?
Bannau Brycheiniog* if you’re going to come to our country and enjoy our mountains, at least refer to them correctly 😊👍

8:32 a man is peeing in the back...😅
8:35 Yes, he's peeing.
Where can I park buddy?
I prefer parking on the road East of Llyn Y Fan Fawr and walking up following the stream/river. There’s lots of small waterfalls and pools you can swim in. Llyn Y Fan Fawr is a natural lake, much prettier. Keep up the good work 👍
Absolutely love Decathlon. I have that tent and love it!!!
If I’m totally honest I had my doubts, but it was excellent, I couldn’t fault it!
@Backpacking UK
I had Cloud Peak 2 for 1st proper tent for wild camping. I'd trust this more than that!
I got this over a Lanshan as its a trusted brand and at 6ft 2 I needed the extra space for the extra few hundred grams
I bought a child's decathlon pole as well to use at foot end to pull it up and give more room. It's only 150grams and could strip it down further if it wanted
I've added more guy lines on as well so will be solid in the wind!
I love Decathlon but can't see me swapping my Osprey bags or Big Agnes sleep pad.
I do want try a quilt but I have looked at the 0 degree down bag as an alternative
Ok. This is the first time I've seen it.
