I live in western ny. My dad has an old mini from like the 80’s I want that thing! It’s not super accurate. It has the old pencil barrel but it’s an awesome little gun.
I find the Mini-14 ergonomically superior to the AR-15. The downward angle of the stock to barrel gives me a more traditional cheek weld that I'm used to.
If you're used to hunting rifles with a more traditional stock, it would definitely be an easier transition to this than an AR. and it can do the things you would need an AR for about as well. overall, I think they're a solid choice.
Stumbled onto this video and I’m impressed with the quality in the content! I’m 59 and a retired Army Infantryman and grew up in south central Oregon on the edge of the Oregon High Desert and the Mini-14 has served well with ranchers and shooters to take out coyotes, rabbits and squeaks that dig holes in ranchers pastures where cattle can step in and injure a leg. I picked up a retired Texas prison gun at a pawn shop here in San Antonio for $700 and it’s nearly brand new, I nearly put my hand through my pocket to get the money out! Texas DPS used the Mini-14 GB variant which is the only Mini-14 I wanted to own, nearly all of my rifles are battle rifles so if it can mount a bayonet, I’ll buy it, lol. I will admit that the newer Mini-14’s are more accurate than my 185 series. And like others, I prefer to use just Ruger made magazines and I buy one now and then due to the cost and never use the Pro-Mag Mini-14 mags, they’re low quality and you’ll have to fiddle with them to get it to properly seat in the mag well. Of course, if Pro-Mag is all you have on hand, just tune each mag as best you can and run different types of ammo through it to make sure you got it tuned correctly. Thanks for the video sir!
I bought my first Mini 14 back in 1982, had to sell it a few years later due to money issues. I bought another Mini 14 in 1995 or 96 and still own it. I love the Mini. I've dressed it up with a picatiny rail, red dot scope, newer iron sights ( it's the Ranch Rifle model and I never cared for the RR sights), barrel brace, nylon sling, bird cage flash hider. Love how it looks, love how it shoots, accurate as hell.
30 Reasons why the Mini-14 is superior to the AR-15. 1. Exempt from a pending assault firearms ban bill in my state. 2. Beautiful looking according to my wife (my opinion as well). 3. Gas piston operated. Doesn’t fart where it feeds. 4. Easier to clean and inspect. 5. Weird difficult to clear AR-15 jams such as the gas tube jam and charging handle channel jam can’t happen. 6. Wide open breech for jam clearance access. 7. Upgrade path to 7.62 NATO by buying a companion Springfield Armory M1A-M14 makes more sense and is more popular than an AR-10. 8. WW2 lineage and classic looks. 9. 20rd mags are curved for more reliable feeding of the tapered rounds. 10. Magazines held much more securely in place. 11. Better stock trigger doesn’t need replacement or necessarily need honing. 12. Full stainless steel option. 13. No buffer tube spring twang ringing in your right ear. 14. Folding stock ready. 15. Standard sling mounts. I highly recommend a sling and “African Carry”. 16. No accessories needed to start shooting out of the box. 17. Can’t forget to extend a collapsing stock. 18. Butt stock less fragile. 19. More intuitive and ergonomic manual safety. 20. Low sight axis. 21. Often lighter when fully equipped. 22. Used by the A-team. Used by the Family Ties dad Michael Grossman and David Soul in the infamous Miami FBI shoot out re-creation movie. Silly reason, I know. 23. Mags gravity drop free faster because they are made of steel (when the release lever is operated correctly as in the manual). 24. Stock can be glass bedded to the receiver like a traditional bolt action rifle. 25. Costs twice as much as a basic AR-15, for one-up manship. 26. Faster (one second) presentation from shouldered African Carry to a sling-wrapped accurate aiming stance. The AR-15’s tacticool accessories, protruding 30rd mag, and pistol grip get in the way. In the sitting sling-wrapped stance, I shoot any rifle much more accurately than from the bench rest. So when people report their bench test results as the very best a rifle can produce, I am highly dubious. 27. Far more logical, easier to learn, and simplified manual of arms. I use a simplified manual of arms that makes the shooting operation of this rifle much more logical, intuitive, and easier to learn. Basically the left hand holds the fore end stock and presses the butt into the shoulder (usually with a wrapped sling as mentioned in the African Carry post) and the right hand does all of the manipulations: working the action, working the safety, trigger, and magazine removal/insertion. The AR-15 is designed more for the right hand to stay on the pistol grip. If you use an AR-15 manual of arms with a Mini-14 you’ll end up doing mag swaps wrong and not how it’s recommended in the owner’s manual. If I were to use my left hand, I would have to come out of my aiming set position, unwrap the sling from my left arm, and use my left thumb to press the mag release lever and then pull the mag out against resistance. Besides losing my sling-steadied sight picture, this means dropping your thumb off the lever mid process and the inner portion of the lever pressing on the partially loosened mag. Therefore you must rip the mag out with friction and mechanical resistance since it is engaged in front by a peg in the magazine retaining hole. This is bad form and not what the owner’s manual recommends. Instead one should use the right hand to apply constant forward pressure on the mag release lever and the mag will gravity drop free with no friction or mechanical resistance. This manual of arms is much easier to learn than newbies trying to figure out which hand does what with an AR and which ambi AR controls may or may not be installed on any particular AR. The logical and constant sight picture manual of arms for the Mini is very similar to a classic lever action rifle. Some people lower the rifle when working the lever, but the proper way is to have the left hand press the butt stock into the shoulder, maintain constant sight picture, and use the right hand for all manipulations. 28. Integrated scope rings are included and work well. The peculiar geometry of the AR-15 requires a proprietary 3rd party forward-offset scope mount for proper eye-relief. Cottage industries have been created to correct this shortcoming. 29. Included detachable 1913 top rail makes it optics ready, yet can be removed in case future laws focus on "tactical rails" being assault weapon features. 30. The Ruger 10/22 Takedown stainless rifle makes for a good survivalist companion rifle, a "Mini Me" for the Mini-14.
Great video. I love this platform. I own a 194 series, and a 583 series. I had the usual issues with older model holding groups when it got warm. I replaced the gas block and added an accu strut, and it solved the issue. It'll hold 2.5 in groups all day. My newer one shoots better. Between 1.25 and 2.25in groups. I also added the adjustable gas block and accu strut on that as well. People need to understand what this rifle is intended for. It wasn't built as a fighting rifle, or a precision rifle. It was designed as a ranch rifle. It's light and maneuverable. It points easy, and shoots well. It's designed to be an option for homestead defense. For picking off critters. Can it be a home defense rifle? Absolutely, but it's not an AR, and those who compare this to the AR are ignorant on this rifles purpose.
The Mini-14 and Mini-30 are some of my favorite rifles. I enjoy shooting the Mini and never get tired of it. It's not a tack driver and it doesn't do certain things as well as an AR...... BUT it is easy to carry around and it is extremely fun. If I want to do some longer range shooting or some real target shooting I won't use the Mini but when I want to have a day of fun, I prefer the Mini. Good job on the video. 👍
Great video. I bought mine in 1995. Still have it. It shot 1.5 groups out of the box, even with the "pencil barrel", and it still does. Added a barrel strut/stabilizer and a MoReaper muzzle brake just for fun and to give it a slightly different look. The action is super reliable. It just shoots. And yeah, the A-Team was my inspiration for getting it.😀
My only down side to my mini was the bolts on the wood stock. They got loose. I got the Hogue stock now so nothing to worry about. I do love how well I can shoot at the hundred yard targets with just the irons. As for the mags. I got 4, 40 round preban Precision Mags. They work great in my rifle. Just looking around for 20 and 30 round mags. Blued and 1 stainless. Got a set to complete.
Well done, uinformative video. Thanks.. i bought my Mini summer 202 in the buying frenzy during the COVID pandemic, principally for added self defense. Love shooting it! Curious story about the ejection of brass.....I am left handed and was never bothered by the ejection of the spent brass,, actually, I was oblivious of that characterestic. I introduced myself to the gun shooting solo, again, wrapped up in becoming familiar wirh the rifle. last range day for me , with my brother and some members on the line, they were commenting about how far the brass ejected. I was never aware until I let my brother fire. It is really a unique signature for the forearm.
5:41 I'm 6ft 4" and that rubber butt pad adds an extra half inch or so and it's perfect. I use a wood stock like yours, I also have a black poly one that came with it and it has a shorter pad.
I carried in the military and as a civilian I've had AR-15 and mini 14s, I had nothing but problems with my AR-15 but I have never had a single problem with my mini 14 and the difference in accuracy is not enough to concern me !!!
I like my Mini 14 and Mini 30 for that very reason, they are great rifles and something that doesn't draw much unwanted attention with their more traditional looks. The perfect rifle if you travel with an RV and have to pass, or go to the unfriendly states that don't allow AR15's. I've had people somewhat familiar with guns ask if it's a Ruger 10/22 when I've had a smaller capacity magazine in the rifle. That's why one of my Minis often gets a vacation once in a while, while my AR's gets to stay home in a dark safe. All wonderful firearms though, the greatest thing is we have a choice to buy one or the other, or all of them - Happy Shooting :)
16:28 100% Please note that the brass will also have a significant dent in it from hitting the corner of that oprod/charger I had a mini 30 and all steel case and brass was dented. still fun as hell tho : )
I mean. Im in no way in any kind of specialisation, and own an M203 and an XM109 replica. One classified as an explosive special weapon and the other a destructive class weapon. Theyre authorized under license. People might say Cali is shit for guns, but if you just have things licensed and stamped, its fine. Cali also has some 1M more guns than Texas, funny note. If money is an issue, then ya, alternatives exist.
@@kellerweskier7214 Cali is shit for guns. Just having them 'licensed and stamped' is not enough, they will still get you for having a perfectly normal (in other states) AR.....That's why I left....
@@nadonailer you dont have the right license for your AR then. your own fault. What, scared that uncle sam will know you have a gun? LOL. get over it, why dont you Assault rifle guys rise up and try to over take the US military and their drones, tanks, and FOBs that you dont even know how to assault.
Nice! Lol definitely one of my favorite combos out of the two my M1A surprisingly is my favorite but the mini is a close follow up thanks for watching brother 🤙🏻
I love this rifle so much. Saving up after my SKS purchase to pick one up. The wood and stainless model I think looks quite attractive. I’d love to get some straight steel 20 round magazines for it, really complete that look
I run the Pro Mag magazines in my Mini 14. I know a lot of people complain about them, but I think they are using the older Mini 14's, not the 580 series and newer. Mine is a 581 or 582 series, can't remember which, and my Mini is also 100% using them. I do use the 20 round mags in mine, but I'm sure the 30 rounders are fine too.
Some say that the Mini 14 has accuracy issues, well, it was never designed to be a competition match rifle however, I took mine to a very good gunsmith who polished out the action and brought the trigger down to a crisp four pounds. I can now live nicely with about a consistent two inch group at 100.
True but it has been proving quite a few times even here in UA-cam that when putting this style of action through a mud test it tends to have issues compared to others. Trust me I love this platform especially for the cool factor but I will be the first to admit the downfalls
The M1 Garand and the M14 did not have this opening. The mini 14 it can be a problem but it is also a quick easy remedy to clear. The payoff is the mini 14 advancement that there are no gas tubes. A simple single stroke piston at the gas block. No residue reaches the breach. There is absolutely no blowback
Hey man, new subscriber here. Very good review. I too lived in NY and right when I was ready to buy my first AR, cuomo passed that stupid NY Safe act. So I went with the ruger. I still have it to this day and love to shoot it. My son loves it as well. I do prefer the AR platform, but like you, the mini has a special place in my heart. Nicely done!
Nice man! Thank you so much for subscribing I seriously appreciate it, it most definitely still holds a special place for me as well thanks for the comment 👌🏻
Did you need to register your Ruger Mini-14? I heard that NYC is much worse than the rest of the state, and that NYC statutes call that top handguard a "barrel shroud," which I heard requires registration with the city (which I find unconstitutional and moronic).
@@VanDaRifleman All long guns in NYC need to be registered with the Rifle Shotgun section and are added to your Rifle Shotgun permit, unlike the rest of the state, in NYC you need a Permit to posses a Long Gun within the city. I have had no issue with registering my Mini-14
Great review! Love my Mini-14. Wife, however, did not appreciate the first hot ejected shell that flew into the front of her sweater - she has learned to stand to the left ;)
The first-of-its-kind its kind was the M1 Garand. Thirty-ought-six. The second generation was the M14 well-known in Vietnam. Caliber 308. Ruger Mini-14 is the son of the M14. grandson of the M1 garand.
@@FirearmFreedom only pointing out you referred to the M1 several times. But I didn't notice you mentioning the M14. The Ruger mini 14 is a 'mini' M14. Difference cal. With simplified gas system. Ruger 14 my choice of rifles at any cost. Enjoyed your video. Thanks.
@@FirearmFreedom just ask yourself how did ruger come up with the number 14 for the mini. I am just a history fanatic. things must be put in proper timeline for context. You skipped a thirty year chapter.
@@4tango123 so as I said in my last comment I mentioned in the video how the rifle hails from the M1 garand the M1 carbine and the M1a or M14 I generally don’t call it an M14 in the videos because it’s some what improperly referring to the rifle. I have also done videos on each individual rifle out of that bunch on my channel including three on the M1a
It's got a wooden stock. If the pull length is too long, get your saw out and remedy it. You can even change the contact angle a bit to suit. Take a small amount and test it first, you can always take more. When you get it where you like it, sand the butt plate to match.
I think the pull length is only feels long if you are used to an AR15 collapsable stock or similar, it seems similar to that on a range of rifles I own, so seems normal to me at least on my synthetic stocked rifles, about like a Ruger 10/22 and an M14 at the other end of the scale. Overall the the rifle is still very compact and quick to handle. While a wooden stock can be cut down, it would take a braver man than me to take a saw to it :)
some [anecdotal] tips: I wrapped electrical tape around the buttpad on mine, leaving about 1/8" of rubber exposed. improves things greatly. I also threw an Accu-Strut on under the barrel and Ultimak handguard(a couple of good ol' Made in USA enhancements). this puts a little more weight out front and balances things a little better.
Try wrapping the rubber recoil pad circumference with plastic electrician tape. I find it slips with clothing and FIXES the gripping problem. Nice design rifle.
I myself was shocked when I saw how they have neutered the AR-15 in New York, by having a welded or pinned permanently a 10-round magazine one has to load it with stripper clips from the top by pushing a pin to separate the upper receiver from the lower, if you want a detachable magazine you have to have no features no threaded barrel no collapsible stock no pistol grip in fact no grip. Which makes the mini-14 the perfect replacement !!!
Heaven carried an M14 I found it not to be an issue the advantage of an open chamber is clearing jams it has an advantage over close Chambers like the AR-15 or some of the more so-called modern rifles and an advantage in how quickly you can also clear debris what you do not have and some of the more modern rifles !!!
@@FirearmFreedom I thought so too. But they do bend. I took mine off and replaced it with a Choate handguard. After watching videos of malfunctions I saw most feeding issues were from the charge handle not going fully into place and the shooter always was gripping the rifle while squeezing the hand shield. There is only a millimeter or two of clearance between the handle and handguard.
I have a 584 series Mini 30. The only ammo I've had a slight issue with is Tula which is renowned for being the worst, probably an FTF one round in 50. All types of Wolf, Silver Bear, Herters etc. steel case ammo has worked without issue. It's surprisingly accurate too, the Silver Bear in particular. I believe earlier guns had problems with the firing pin not extending enough to hit the deep seated primers of a lot of the steel cased ammo, but after market pins can be bought, the original can be modified and some use a stronger hammer spring. I've been more than happy with mine. The Thirty is a fantastic shorter range rifle which the 7.62x39 cartridge is ideal for, that will work well for self defense or deer, or hog hunting etc. or just for having a blast at the range. I have the Mini 14 as well, it's a toss up between the two, but I think the 30 has the edge for my intended uses.
What kind of sling is that on the mini 14 ? & I like the scope affordable on Amazon to I see .I just got a mini 14 at Bass pro I ordered it very nice lot of fun .
Just bought my first mini 14. Owned a mini 30 before and didn't care for it. It tended to jam even when shooting super hot loads in a factory 5 round mag. I have also shot mini 14s for years. To this date, between my Marlin Camp Carbine and Ruger Mini 14, ghe biggest issue i have between the two of them really is just releasing the dang bolt. Neither has an auto bolt release and you have to pull back on the charging handle. More often than not i find myself trying to release the bolt only to find nothing happens or i drop the magazine
@@FirearmFreedom should add context here, i was in the army so for 3 years i drilled on AR reloads and still nearly a decade later find myself hitting the paddle mag release absentmindely sometimes when i am at the range
@@AlexSchuierer When the bolt is closed, it rotates and locks in place, the recoil spring keeps it there. I checked both my Mini 14 and 30 there's no real play there a slight bit of side to side at the rear, but that's just the working tolerance. I'd contact Ruger if there is a lot of play, that doesn't sound normal at all.
Ya generally it should be pretty tight on lock up. If it’s loose it could mean bad head spacing. If it’s new that’s pretty strange if it’s older it could just be shot out. Best would be to contact Ruger
The issue mentioned with the rifle moving around under recoil is something you get on the M14, Mini 14 or Mini 30 because the charging operating rod/charging handle are on the right side of the rifle and so it swings slightly to the right with each shot. As for the open action that is completely a non event in real world use, the action proved fine in both WW2, Korea and Vietnam. Yes dirt can get in, but it falls out too. The magazine cost is always raised, but nearly every firearm I own has a proprietary magazine, so I don't see that being an issue for a firearm I want. The Ruger ones are very good quality and should last a lifetime. I don't have anything of equivalent quality in my AR mags, my M14 mags from Checkmate would be similar.
I found the Ruger-branded 30-round magazines are hit or miss for quality. No issues so far with the 20-round magazines, but some of my 30-rounders will not accept more than 15 or 16 rounds before they jam while loading. I suspect they subcontracted those to a different supplier than for the other magazines they sell under their brand. Otherwise, excellent review!
Huh interesting I have not experienced any issues so far with my factory 30 rounds but that doesn’t mean issues don’t resist out there thanks for the info and the comment!
@@library_dork1321 That's one good reason to pay a bit extra for the factory magazines, the Ruger warranty. All my factory magazines have been flawless from 5-30. While obviously there could be a scenario where a 30 rounder could have benefits, the 20 is much nicer IME, the rifle handles better and you don't have the magazine bumping on things. Each to their own.
Accuracy Systems Inc . adjustable gas block , money well spent , dial the gas down and control how far you want the brass to go . Also a myriad of other mini 14 items available .
@@brianpeterson5516 , it also reduces the the amount of force being slammed into the front of the receiver from the weighted charging handle , and reduces the force on the bolt slamming into the back of the receiver , the two main contact points , on the newer models that have the cup looking piece in the front of the receiver , they are breaking from the repeated slamming , so you replace the cup , on my older one , it knocked a round hole in the rear of the receiver where the bolt contacted it repeatedly , on my AC/556 , I had it repaired and installed a new charging handle and bolt , also installed the adjustable gas block and dialed it down , it no longer slammed into the rear of the receiver , i wasn't worried about the brass , just the receiver .
You can also use a smaller gas bushing from the same company, they are way over gassed from the factory, made to work in all conditions and dirty with the worst ammo. Reducing the gas, can make the rifle more pleasant to shoot and more accurate as it goes less of target and you have less barrel vibration from everything flying around so viscously while cycling.
I have seen a video that shows an individual converting a AR mag to a mini14 mag. As a bonus, it remained functional in his AR as well. I dont know if that's approved Uboob content so I'm not posting a link without your permission.
If it’s just another UA-cam video you could still post a link, that’s very interesting I may have to give that a shot thanks for the info and for watching the video!
Dang man. No love for the M14? 😁 It's not a Mini M1A. It's a Mini 14. M1A hasn't seen 1 minute of military service, and strictly a civilian commercial copy of a US Rifle, 7.62mm, M14 Great video. Well presented and to the point 👍
Mini 14, introduced in 1973, pre-dates the 1974 release of the M1A by Elmer Ballance, founder of Springfield Armory Incorporated (not the REAL Springfield Armory in Ma.)
A new trend, seen in Washington and being adopted elsewhere, is language in “assault weapon” laws that include nearly every semi-auto rifle. The law says “semi-automatic, centerfire rifle with at least one of the following features” It then lists typical features of semi-auto rifles. My Mini might now be banned because, based on the language, enterprising gun grabbers could interpret “barrel shroud” to include the Mini-14 hand guard. But there is no question about my Ruger PCC - the threaded barrel is a no-no. On the other hand, the threaded barrel on my Henry is perfectly acceptable. Makes perfect sense, yeah?
I've always wanted a mini 14. But probably will end up getting a mini 30 if it happens. Idk I like 556, but I've always had a partialness towards 30 cal. Wouldn't kick her out of bed though if she was in 556.
I have both, which probably shows how hard I found the decision :) On balance I probably like the Mini 30 better because the 7.62x39 round is a shorter range cartridge which suits the rifle as it's not meant to be a long range tackdriver, although mine are accurate. The 7.62 round has more stopping power for close range work and is better suited for hunting deer, hogs etc. but it's a tossup, I ended up with both because I wanted another platform in both rounds. The 30 does have noticeably more recoil, than the 14, I believe the recoil is about double as the rifle is essentially the same, how ever it's not bad recoil by any means, just something to be mindful of.
Thanks for the review!! I’m finding myself strangely drawn to the mini even though, if SHTF, I would 100% be grabbing my BCM AR. Still, there’s something about this gun that just allures me. What kind of role would the mini 14 excel at? Varmit gun? Back up minimalist gun? Thanks again for sharing
I would say the best role would be a banned state rifle, you can get it unneutered and in a bad SHTF situation where laws don’t matter anymore it can except any standard capacity 20-30rnd mags without mods 🤙🏻
So I did a cost effectiveness study back in 2020 and found out that building a CA compliant AR with a Thordsen stock makes more sense. Should have ignored my wife and got one when it was 799.
Ya these were so affordable back in the day and now they are just getting seriously tough to find and expensive. Thank you for the support as always my friend
Some people at my range here in New York shoot non compliant ar 15s with the pistol grips and detachable 30 round mags. Can they get arrested if caught?
Stop wearing hoodies , they are for children. I find the stock very natural and comfortable. Reliable, accurate enough and easy to maneuver. Don't use steel case bullets. Price has become its only real issue.

I guess the big issue in the 21st century technology is false information. The M14 was most notably during Vietnam conflict. It was the military issue combat rifle. It was stamped M14 it was not stamped as M1A or any other variances that later developed. The M14 is an M14 nothing else. Military issued. Mr. Sullivan worked with Ruger developing the mini 14. You did not develop the mini 14 from the M1A or the M1 grand or any other earlier development. And his writings and interviews the mini 14 was strictly a version of the M14 therefore called Mini-14. I guess it really doesn't matter some people just don't like doing their homework

Absolutely the best post. Totally agree with you about the correct manual of arms.
Something about standard capacity mags sticking out of wooden stocks that just does *it.*
I don't know what *it* is, but it *does it.*

That is a very good point I totally agree, thanks for watching man!
I totally agree man thank you so much for your comment!

Very clear and well done with your review.
I am in Upstate New York. The Mini 14, - 580 series is in darn near every house up and down my street. Get the Hoague Overmold Stock.
I could not agree more lol when I lived in NY I saw the same thing 😂
Great video. I bought mine in 1995. Still have it. It shot 1.5 groups out of the box, even with the "pencil barrel", and it still does. Added a barrel strut/stabilizer and a MoReaper muzzle brake just for fun and to give it a slightly different look. The action is super reliable. It just shoots. And yeah, the A-Team was my inspiration for getting it.😀
Couldn’t agree more they are such great rifles, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
Nice! Ya I think the mini is generally very very underrated
Lol yes it is definitely tough to miss once you start noticing it, thanks for watching!
The minis have a long history and heritage !!!
Very true!

I carried in the military and as a civilian I've had AR-15 and mini 14s, I had nothing but problems with my AR-15 but I have never had a single problem with my mini 14 and the difference in accuracy is not enough to concern me !!!
They really are great rifles!
(Almost) all the capabilities of an AR-15 without the stigma
A pretty accurate comment 👌🏻 thanks for watching!

Oh for sure man and the stainless version looks great with the Samson MFG stock! Thanks for watching 👌🏻
Ya normally promags suck for me but I have had really good luck for the mini14 mags
great video! I always like watching mini 14 videos. hopefully soon ill buy one
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed the video
Some say that the Mini 14 has accuracy issues, well, it was never designed to be a competition match rifle however, I took mine to a very good gunsmith who polished out the action and brought the trigger down to a crisp four pounds. I can now live nicely with about a consistent two inch group at 100.
Nice! Can’t beat that at all
Joe you give true meaning to the term "Runnin & Gunnin". Looking good in the sun light. Dennis.
Lmfao I will take sunlight any day over the snow and rain the past few range days 😂 thanks for watching Dennis!
The open action didn’t have an issue in Normandy or Omaha Beach.

Very understandable, the mini 14 is a great option for those states
Did you need to register your Ruger Mini-14? I heard that NYC is much worse than the rest of the state, and that NYC statutes call that top handguard a "barrel shroud," which I heard requires registration with the city (which I find unconstitutional and moronic).
@@VanDaRifleman All long guns in NYC need to be registered with the Rifle Shotgun section and are added to your Rifle Shotgun permit, unlike the rest of the state, in NYC you need a Permit to posses a Long Gun within the city. I have had no issue with registering my Mini-14

I have also done videos on each individual rifle out of that bunch on my channel including three on the M1a
Training with whatever rifle you have is important and with that you can overcome any obstacles due to a lack of ergonomics !!!
It's got a wooden stock. If the pull length is too long, get your saw out and remedy it. You can even change the contact angle a bit to suit. Take a small amount and test it first, you can always take more.
When you get it where you like it, sand the butt plate to match.
That is definitely a great option for a fix, I just ended up opting for the Samson manufacturing stock 🤙🏻
Mini 14s are awesome. Great video brother 🤘🇺🇸

some [anecdotal] tips: I wrapped electrical tape around the buttpad on mine, leaving about 1/8" of rubber exposed. improves things greatly. I also threw an Accu-Strut on under the barrel and Ultimak handguard(a couple of good ol' Made in USA enhancements). this puts a little more weight out front and balances things a little better.
For sure man, all good tips I actually just switched to the Samson manufacturing stock 🤙🏻

Oh very cool, thanks for the heads up I will have to give that a try!

With the proper “compliant” magazines yes

I think you can still grab those heat shields in such a way as to cause a malfunction. It depends on how you grip it.
I’m sure there is a way but man you would have to be grabbing it pretty crazy hard lol
What do you think of its bigger brother the Ruger Mini 30... Is it really finicky with ammo
To be honest with you I haven’t had any experience at all with the mini 30 but I have heard great things

Hey man what primary arms red dot is that exactly?
Just bought my first mini 14. Owned a mini 30 before and didn't care for it. It tended to jam even when shooting super hot loads in a factory 5 round mag. I have also shot mini 14s for years. To this date, between my Marlin Camp Carbine and Ruger Mini 14, ghe biggest issue i have between the two of them really is just releasing the dang bolt. Neither has an auto bolt release and you have to pull back on the charging handle. More often than not i find myself trying to release the bolt only to find nothing happens or i drop the magazine
Ya that definitely can be an odd learning curve with the mini overall they are great rifles 🤙🏻

A lot of play, opened or closed?
@@fiveowaf454 closed
Great points man thanks for the comment!
Don't look up M14 mud tests, lol
Interesting I might have to check it out thanks for the heads up man!
Just out of curiosity, what exactly is the benefit of an adjustable gas block? Other than the obvious that it reduces how far your brass goes.
@@tomstone6247 thank you I appreciate the info
You can also use a smaller gas bushing from the same company, they are way over gassed from the factory, made to work in all conditions and dirty with the worst ammo. Reducing the gas, can make the rifle more pleasant to shoot and more accurate as it goes less of target and you have less barrel vibration from everything flying around so viscously while cycling.

A new trend, seen in Washington and being adopted elsewhere, is language in “assault weapon” laws that include nearly every semi-auto rifle. The law says “semi-automatic, centerfire rifle with at least one of the following features”
It then lists typical features of semi-auto rifles.
For sure the mini 30 is also a great option 👌🏻
I know right , in California I was out banging away with my mini 14 today in communist California . 🤷🏾♂️
Ya it tends to be an awesome choice for anyone behind the lines of any of the ridiculous states out there 👌🏻 thanks for watching!
Magpul needs to make a Hunter stock for this rifle!
They should also make mags
Oh dude mags would be incredible and they could totally do it too
Yes they do!

Thx
These things are becoming way too expensive. Had I bought one, I'll need to pay extra to kit it up, and that's just an accu-strut and tech sight.
You need to get that Samson stock and go full A-Team with this sombitch.
Dude I want one so bad lol
Some people at my range here in New York shoot non compliant ar 15s with the pistol grips and detachable 30 round mags. Can they get arrested if caught?
YES
@@alanhigh8125 do you know if it's a misdemeanor or felony? I can't get much info online
Shouldn't have your finger in the trigger guard unless you're ready to fire.
Stop wearing hoodies , they are for children. I find the stock very natural and comfortable. Reliable, accurate enough and easy to maneuver. Don't use steel case bullets. Price has become its only real issue.
Are you the Lego guy? Lol
Lol I’m not sure what that means 🥴😂
beautiful gun, thanks for sharing New York’s gun laws are a joke only the criminals can get the guns ! I live inJersey now , going back South maybe West Virginia where residents can counceal carry with a drivers liscense
Thanks for watching man I figured some of the patriots in that shithole sorry to hear your behind the lines as well. I hope you get out soon!
I just discovered this rifle was used in the Ecole Polytechnique massacre back in 1989.
1 rifle out of millions sold and used responsibly.
If you're going to buy a 30 round mag for the ruger mini-14, do your self a favor and buy a AK-47 or AR-15 platform rifle. You will be much happier.
Its the shooter. Not the rifle so much. Know your tools through practice and training
And Tula gets eaten like candy
As far as I am the one that caused the case to stick?
@@FirearmFreedom 😆😆
I would not know. I was not there. But from my experience with my mini 14 i had failure to feed/eject from the beginning. I believe had i lubricated iniitially that would have been prevented
But being a new owner i was too eager to shoot. Learned my lesson the hard way. But now she shoots Tula steel or brass with no issues
Im just saying for myself with experience and practice i get to know my firearms better
Its a wooden stock ??? cut it shorter...simple
In this case I just ended up switching the stock out.
Hey brother get a hold of me I have something I would like to run by you.
Thanks for watching man I will try and get a hold of ya!
Dislike your video because I am sick of gun-lovers playing the victim card. Your information is fine, but loose your ‘rude, dude!
Not sure how I was playing the victim in this video?
@@FirearmFreedom you feel victimized by states that legislate gun laws in anything but a permissive way. Stop complaining about New York’s gun laws as if they were doing you a personal disservice. Live wherever you are happiest and don’t grouse about other states. Just my take. I like the information and own my share, but I don’t complain about other states that don’t share my philosophy. Alternatively, get elected and make legislation where you live. :)
That's an amazing coincidence. We're sick of your ilk too. 🤪
