As a nephrologist (kidney doctor) it makes me so happy to hear Doctorly calling them the most important organ in the body! 🙂 and absolutely right they will take care of all your hydration needs!
Totally agree with others about an episode discussing skin changes and skincare in perimenopause and menopause. I was seriously not prepared for the skin effects from perimenopause that I've experienced so far (like suddenly becoming reactive to my usual skincare regime, getting patches of eczema at random times, milia outbreaks, bouts of cholinergic urticaria) & until I spoke to my GP I had no idea if it was something I was doing wrong with my skin to make it behave the way it was.
Once again: Knocked it out da park! Professional, candid, informed, witty, unafraid to speak your mind (but with grace and courtesy)--I really enjoy what you two bring to the channel!
So, as others have mentioned here, there needs to be more research and discussion about how peri-menopause and menopause affect the skin. We all know about how environment, sun damage, stress, diet, gravity etc. affect the skin over time. We also know the habits and products that can help with those. However, what I have not seen a lot of talk about is how loss of estrogen and progesterone impact the look and feel of the skin. (In addition to all the other lovely changes to your body. So much fun) I feel like the lack of information on this leads sooooooo many women to feel bad about the way they look. Even though they have done everything right for their skin. I am definitely one of those women. I have been caring for my skin, almost obsessively, my whole life. It wasn't until I watched a video from another dermatologist here about why JLo looks so good for her age. She stated that one of the factors was that she thought JLo was probably on some form of hormone therapy. I feel kind of stupid, but I never would have thought about that. No doctor has ever had any discussion about that with me. This needs to be talked about more. And it needs to be proactive rather than waiting until full menopause and the damage has already been done.
Asking dermatologists to research hormone therapy for you is like asking a chef to research chemical engineering. You’re looking for answers from the wrong people, focus on anti-aging specialists/doctors.
@@RubmaLione But as doctors they DO have access to studies and research about all sorts of drugs and how they can affect the skin. It seems like an important topic for helping skin as we age.

I agree with Dr Shah when he said sleeping on his right side causes his beard to not connect. I sleep on my right side to because I have a small tear on my rotator cuff and my hair on my right side is thinner.
HEY DOCTORS!!! Im a pre med student here, researching some of the cosmetic products on the market currently, more specifically, Sunscreens. Can you guys discuss some of the SPF components in sunscreens and the claims that some of the different chemicals have negative effects on our bodies?

My take on Deinfluencing is listening to reviews based on the product. Too many influencers(especially on Tiktok) just say the product is good because either they are being paid by the brand or hoping to be paid for by the brand.
29:10 you talk about training your jaw muscles for a stronger jaw line. Bret Contreras did a post on training his jaw for a month or so using a contraption you put in your mouth and he said it didn’t change his appearance at all.

As far as when sunscreen should be used…when I was growing up in the 70s… no one was aware that sun was harmful! As a teen, I had very bad acne and went to a dermatologist who gave me Retin-A liquid and told me it would be beneficial also to sit out in the sun for 15 minutes a day to let the sun dry up my acne. So I never wore sunscreen Even into my 40s. Unfortunately, now I have a lot of sun damage.
wow, i'm so sorry about your sun skin damage. i can't imagine how Retin=a without sunscreen and having to sit in the sun after applying it did to your skin. my generation is so lucky to have free dermatological information readily available
First of all, thanks for all you do! Luv you guys. I need to say that sleeping on your side without a special pillow for your face can definitely cause wrinkles. I've witnessed people having more wrinkles on the side of their face that they prefer to sleep on. Because of that, I invested in a special pillow that keeps my cheeks off the pillow while on my side. I'm more of a side sleeper so the pillow has really made a difference. ❤👍🏻
I consistently sleep on my right side (due to having a baby in the bed) and my esthetician has noted many times that I have lost volume in that side of my face.
Can you guys make a video on the "Banisher 2.0", it's been getting a lot of traction lately because of it's ability to fade acne scarring, but I'm kinda skeptical, btw love y'all videos💙

It’s as if you haven’t heard about the tiktok suicide challenges and the children doing that - that’s just one reason why tik tok is so hated. The Chinese government owns most of it, accesses the data, and then makes sure the most vulnerable people see those damaging videos in their feed.
I do have a crease line next to my mouth on one side of my face which is super prominent when I wake up but it goes away after a few hours. It’s every morning so maybe it will stick around longer but I’ve been aware of it for at least 6-7 years and it is always gone by lunch. 🤷♀️
My skin is exactly the same since I was 11 years old 😂 I'm almost 38 and still struggling with breakouts. I'm waiting for my skin to wake up and say hey you're gonna be 40 soon things will be different 😂😂
Emsculpt neo really helped me target my menopausal midsection that no amount of good diet or exercise seemed to help. I didn’t get washboard abs, but it definitely helped redefine my waistline, and encouraged me to continue on my own fitness journey. I totally agree with your take on Emface. I’ve always had that argument about using nuface and then getting Botox.
I didn’t care for my skin until my very late 60s. I don’t think it was in the media for most of us unless you have acne or something else. I’m now at 75 I care a lot! I know used Noxema as a teen.
That's actually really interesting. The community I've seen with de-influencing either show there house as imperfect and how they are handling it. I think sleeping on one's back does help prevent wrinkles. I've noticed I have less wrinkles than my sisters. I'm the middle sister. One likes to sleep on her side, and the other often sleeps on her stomach. I used to sleep on my side, but I trained myself to sleep on my back.
I avoid social media everywhere but You Tube, to avoid time and mental drain. I also avoid short form content for the same reason. I do think young people need help with attention, not harm. Back in my 30s retinol did not exist. I have only started using it age 47, thereabouts; 50 going on 51 now. It's been good to me. I do layer my skin care and end with Nivea's blue tin (which I have been using since age 3, as I am extremely dry).

I have genetically had good skin but one thing that has occurred recently is due to a change in sleeping position (I'm 53). I used to sleep on my back but an injury means I now sleep predominantly on my right side. This has been for a few years now and over this time I have gradually noticed that my right eyebrow and right eyelid are obviously lower than the left (which they were not before). It is even more noticeable now as I have had to start wearing glasses again for reading (having been shortsighted from age 7 to 27 when I had laser surgery) and the right eyebrow is below the frame whilst the left is parallel to it. Any advice as to how to combat this other than not sleeping on my right side (as this is not an option)? is what people say about satin pillowcases true for example? Thank you and for all your content.
I used to sleep on my side when I was younger but now pretty consistently sleep on my back Two things that could help is 1. a different pillow, I switched from a loose down pillow to one of those memory foam pillows that has a well in the middle, and it's more comfortable to lay on my back with it 2. just putting pillows on the side you like to sleep on, and on your chest... it's like weighing yourself down in place lol
@@k8eee Thank you so much for replying with suggestions, really kind. Unfortunately it is a pelvic injury that is the problem so I literally can't lie on my back for more than 5 minutes without my sacrum started to hurt! It's very annoying as I don't sleep nearly as well now on my side! x

Since then, I've tried to implement it into my routine in so many different ways and every time I have the same reaction. I've talked to a lot of people that told me the same thing happened to them practically overnight. Is there any research on why this happens? It's disappointing because it was working so well :/

Love to IF! Works great for my skin and inflammation, really helps keep me centered. Rarely ever drink more than 40oz of water a day, that seems to be my comfort zone. "That being said..." lol, I wanted to comment on the side sleeping segment. I have been a side sleeper most of my life. I tend to sleep primarily on my left side, and I will say, Dr. Maxfield, that there is a difference in the depth of the lines under my left eye compared to my right. It's not obvious to the casual observer, mostly just to me. I do switch sides, but if I sleep on the right, my ear hurts, kind of like muscle cramp, which then drives me back to the left. Maybe I'll just use more eye cream on that side? ;)

If it’s a regulated drug you need a doctor to make a decision on to make sure it’s safe for you to have it. As an example think about antibiotics/antivirals/anti fungal medication. People need them all the time, but you can’t get every type of those over the counter. Some you can but others are powerful drugs so they’re regulated and you can only get them through a doctor.
I'm from the EU, no no. Smoking is just as heavily discouraged here as it is in the US. You can not smoke in public office buildings, some squares, public places. Also tabacco is taxed heavily.
I sleep on my right side and can’t fall asleep on my back. I get this long line on the side of my face from my skin squishing together there that is driving me crazy. When I was your age these lines would disappear quickly, now it’s there all day. I’m trying to make adjustments to stop this but so far it hasn’t worked and just causing me not be able to sleep.

Since then, I've tried to implement it into my routine in so many different ways and every time I have the same reaction. I've talked to a lot of people that told me the same thing happened to them practically overnight. Is there any research on why this happens? It's disappointing because it was working so well :/
A public physician here in the Philippines, Doctors just want to know your opinion about skin care product of Skinfood from Korea, especially the Yuja C dark spot clear serum, thank you very much
Maybe I'll just use more eye cream on that side? ;)
Whaaa Dr. Shah was studying for Radiology? Awesome!!

I've changed so many dentists already and this one seems better out of all I've been to.
I see what is suggested for oily or dry skin. What about normal skin?
Overnight moisturizer Belief Aqua Bomb sleeping mask… any good? I’d really appreciate a run down of buy or pass on skin care items when Ulta and Sephora have their sales! This one is about to end in 2 days.. but Ulta does send info in advance. That would help so much to know what to buy or pass on!! 😄🙏🏼 also, I get confused and have never sat to memorize what I can use with what or what to not use with certain ingredients. Is it possible to do video on that? Like a newbie to skin care video. I’m looking into retinol but sounds like I should use up skincare I just bought first 🤷🏼♀️ anyways thanks for all u do!!!!!
Hey guys! Do you have a opinion about Aesop or Grown Alchemist? Thanks
Question: If tretinoin is so vital to skincare for almost all ages why do you need a prescription for it?
$$$
I do the same and bought silk pillow cases. Those help some.
@@DallasNatureLover I use them.
What's your thought about Oil control strips? 😅
If you want to join the military and you are on TikTok it is a security risk for the country
