This was my dresser and it was cracked like that when I got it , I had thought of painting it but because of its beauty and age I just couldn’t do it I kept a runner over the cracks :) it was also massive in my small room , so I decided to sell it and sold it to a lady that had a shop in lehi , can’t think of her name right now .
Thanks for keeping this beautiful piece in it’s original form. Yes, it’s not perfect, but it still has history, and character. If the price is right, someone will value it and be thrilled to take it home.
Appreciate your attempt to honor this piece, my understanding is that any kind of repair or restoration depreciates the antique value, so at any point you could paint it! I would enjoy it either way! Hardware heaven! Blessed and safe days!
Great video & what fun that you didn’t paint that piece. I think it’s great that you have a something that someone else can DIY-like Zeb said “a project piece”. 👍❤️
Thank you for showing how to save the dresser finish. I have a dining room table that I inherited and have been agonizing over how to deal with the finish on it. I really didn't want to paint it. Thank you!
I guess I'd have to see it in person. I loved it after you sanded the top(and I usually don't like the bleached/raw wood look) the cracks were still visible but didn't look bad. On my screen the whole mirror top looks a different color from the bottom half. Loved the video but I think I am on team paint with this one. Antique or not if I find one like this I'm separating the top for a wall mounted piece(great bathroom or foyer) and the base is it's own piece. But unlike those that start screaming 'why would you do that to an Antique' ..I can appreciate both and enjoy the video.
So glad you are leaving this piece unpainted. We have a mix of painted and unpainted, restored and unrestored antiques in our home...makes for a better variety! I did wonder why you didn't consider adding a new piece of veneer where it was removed in such a noticeable place vs painting it.
Rather than painting it if it doesn’t sell, I’d use those stain markers on the splits. It doesn’t NEED to be restored for thousands of dollars. You’re keeping its age and showing it! I watch a furniture restoration guy and he never wants to sand away it’s signs of age.
If I lived in Utah it would be coming home, love it. Good decision to leave it as is. It's an epic piece that could go in numerous rooms in an house, so best left to the buyer to figure out what to do with the finish. It would be beautiful restored but I could see it with inlays or transfers.
I restore antiques here in Orkney, the history of the piece is as important as it’s age and condition. I have an 1880 walnut sideboard similar to yours, but with more carving. It had been painted with chalk paint, turquoise 😮 a hosepipe and toothbrush + tons of wax later, it has my tv on it ❤
*I almost didn't watch this - saw the notification - but skipped over it because I couldn't bear to watch ANOTHER piece of furniture that still had a lot of life left in it painted.* *I L🤎VE WOOD 🪵 GRAIN and not all damage in wood dooms a piece to be painted over to cover it up‼️😡* *Came back to the notification several hours later and decided to take a chance and watch it. SO DELIGHTED* *I DID❣️❣️❣️🥰💜😊👌* *The final result 👏 👏 👏 is charming - and NO WAY 😳 will this piece hang around your shop until 2024. 😉🤣🤎* *So rewarding to see you, Jami and Zeb, take another direction for a refreshing change...Thank you❣️🤎😀👌👍🏼🪵*
It was hard. The cracks in the top and sides are actually pretty bad but I do love it. ( haven’t painted the antique hutch in my house yet although it has a huge bowed crack in the top so we’ll see)
@@JamiRayVintage *Jami, I KNOW it was hard...I could SEE the pain and you fighting with yourself the whole video, LOL❣️💕 YES, you are correct when you say your face tells it all. 🤣🤣🤣 I want you to know EVERY TIME I SEE YOUR PIECE IN YOUR HOME I DROOL over it - because it is SO BEAUTIFUL and GORGEOUS and FABULOUS and FANTASTIC❣️❣️❣️ How many more ways can I describe its deliciousness‼️⁉️‼️⁉️* *I AM SO PROUD OF YOU 👏👏👏👏 FOR CHANGING THINGS UP in this video - ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS HARD❣️ Way to go, girlfriend❣️🤎 ❤️ 💕*
Man would I love to pick through that hardware! Great idea cleaning up that piece fixing its few imperfections and letting the next person use it as a blank canvas!
Love your thumbnail picture!! Loved seeing the SP Oil wax and Dark and Decrepit in action!! The dresser is a grand piece thanks for helping it along it’s continued journey… whatever it may be 💕
Jami and Jeb, I love the antique dresser and I like seeing the “seams” in the top. It is a grand old dame of a piece and she might show she had a past, but she’s a beauty and adds a different touch of class to your shop! I’m so glad you did that! I hope you keep throwing in new approaches in your videos.
I've heard it's better for value to keep the aged finish like you did than doing the complete restoration! I'm glad you're trying to see if it sells this way & bonus in the meantime, it's a beautiful display area for your shop! ❤❤
Ah veneer is the worst! 😂I’m working on piece from the same era and it has extensive repairs (way worst than this piece, I wish cracks were my only issue) but I am painting it. Too many resin repairs.
I’m even wondering if those 2 pieces go together. They are both different colors and the bottom design is different than the top. I believe the mirror is older than the bottom. The lower part just doesn’t coincide with a piece of that age.
They match I think they just look different shades on camera. The mirror fits perfectly on the back there is a little ledge it sits on. The base is really old and all handmade

Yes more of these type of videos please!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This would be a fun piece to turn into a bathroom counter with a sink in the middle

Jami your staging improved it's look 100 per cent
Its beautifull even with all the imperfections!!! 😁❤
Really enjoyed this video. Thanks and hope to see more like it.
I would try on of those touch up stain pencils to blend in the cracked areas. Have had great results with them.
So funny, the one time I’m like saying “paint that sucker “. I do like the idea of leaving pieces natural.❤

Good job guys, perfectly imperfect. It has really nice storeage!
I didn’t know Dark Oil Wax could be used as a stain. I gotta try it!

I agree about the veneer-if you could find the right one!
I’m awake also LeslieJohnson ❤️
Paint 🎨 It 😊

That’s beautiful wish I lived closer I would buy it ♥️♥️♥️♥️👏👏🙌🙌🙌great job as always
This was such a DELIGHTFUL VIDEO .GRANDMA IS IN THE HOUSE NOW,,,,where she belongs with all of her, obvious story telling🥰
What a beautiful piece!!
I love the mirrors on this piece. I think it turned out great!
Rather than painting it if it doesn’t sell, I’d use those stain markers on the splits.

I love what you did to this piece. It gives me ideas of how to repair pieces that have damage.

Oooooh Jami don’t hurt your back!
😮😱😱😲 WHAT??? No painting the dressers...Shocking LOLOLOLOL
I love it!!!! If I had the room for this beauty, she would be all mine!!! Good job you two :)
Beautiful just as is!!

I LOVE this, only wish I lived closer so I could snag this for my home. Texas is waaaay too far, lol
It looks lovely even with the cracks, it adds character. Xxx

I ❤️ going through hardware! The furniture piece is beautiful! 👏🏼
The thumbnail is everything!!!
Cool piece and I like for you to mix it up with painted and natural wood pieces. The mirrors are beautiful!
It is a lovely 0eice. The Dark and Decrepit suits it.
That is certainly a beautiful piece
Very beautiful
I think it is beautiful as it is .

It makes the whole shop feel more like an antique shop than a boutique, which is great lol
@@JamiRayVintage so cool in there!!💕I agree!
Good enough! Beautiful
Nice job! Surprised you don’t put some knobs on the two doors though.
Beautiful! Love how the platters contrast with this dark piece as well!
Jami, you are adorable! You stopped at the stairs to pull your shirt over your bum. ♥️
It has new life
You did great. Regards from SA🇿🇦🦋
If I still lived in Utah I would definitely buy it.
So beautiful! Great job 😊
Ah veneer is the worst! 😂I’m working on piece from the same era and it has extensive repairs (way worst than this piece, I wish cracks were my only issue) but I am painting it. Too many resin repairs.
Love them!
I love digging through smalls. However, some people will not do that!
Beautiful
Neat piece!
Have you heard of the product called Retique It? It is supposed to help with covering the cracks and keep it in it’s original condition.
I have. It’s not something I have had good results with.
I love these videos! ❤
I would place a dresser scarf over the top.
Paint it! 😊
Love 💘
I hope it sells unpainted for you. If it doesn't paint it.
Color wash it or color wax❤

PS. 4:00 PDT and yes, I’m awake again. Lol
I just bought some dark and decrepit. What’s the difference between that and the oil wax you used?
Oil wax is an oil you wipe on and dark and decrepit can soak in or sit on top of an existing finish’s fb it’s water based
Is dark and decrepit a thick clay based paint or is it different? Sorry it’s hard to tell on the videos.
It’s a water based stain and top coat. It is not clay based like the paint
Paint it!
Interesting.. not painting huh. It's not my style, unpainted. but hey 😂😂
