    Dad and I were discussing tank heaters over Christmas dinner. Yours is 1500 watt, I don't think the ones we have are near that, (maybe a K at most). We found a floating one worked best for us on a lager tank and a submerged one on smaller tanks. We had issues with top ice on the big tanks with a submerged heater. Then again, yours is 1500 watts.

    Hello there Aaron 🐮💪. You have to endure really cold winters.
    It is true that we have very dark days and nights, but it rarely gets lower than -35C

    I'm on my 2nd water heater in my 2nd winter here in manitoba.
    The one that's in there now is giving me trouble and it's only been used for 2 months. Horses unplug the cord or take it out of tank and we have 2 100' extension cords to reach it and that cord also has the block heater from tractor and truck connected to it. We have it pretty good set up the horses can't get the cords now. It would be nice to see how this unit puts up with the tourtue my last 2 have been threw. For sure it looks more solid then the ones I'm using now.

      Manitoba Winters are sooo hard on everything 🥶😱! Our calves in the background lot are always chewing and pulling at anything they can find in and around the waterer. However this unit has held up well all the way from -50 to 0. The old cheaper heaters I use to use would go out almost like clock work every two or so months. Take a peek at one of these rigs as it has saved me a lot of frustration so far 🤣🤣. Cheers 🍻 my MB neighbour

    Does this heater shut off when the water is above freezing? Im thinking of trying to use this to heat up a 170gal stock tank to use as a baptismal.

    • @PrairieSunsetRanch
      @PrairieSunsetRanch  2 місяці тому

      Yes it has a built in thermostat which will shut it off once above freezing. 🍻

    That’s a heavy looking beast!! How does your water feed into that trough? Up the middle with a float?

    • @PrairieSunsetRanch
      @PrairieSunsetRanch  Рік тому

      It’s a beauty 👌. Water feeds through the middle tubing and out the side. This is where it’s controlled by an auto float. There is also a manual arm which closes the water nozzles valve as the water depth increases. Clear as mud? 🤔 🤣🤣

      @@PrairieSunsetRanch any heat in the tube or are you relying on the water around it to keep it thawed??

    • @PrairieSunsetRanch

      I run a heat tape down the tube but they say Ground heats all you need 😬. I honestly don’t want to test that theory!

    Have you tried one that goes through the trough drain? Debating on what to get here for my 2 horses. Its a 100 gallon plastic tank. No cord if it goes through drain.

    • @PrairieSunsetRanch
      @PrairieSunsetRanch  Рік тому +1

      I haven’t tried on of those only due to the fact if it is inserted through the bottom it’s one more seal to worry about failing or dripping. Especially with the extremely varying temperature ranges in Fall/Winter. Just my two cents! Cheers 🍻 from PSR

    I found mine was coated with a white buildup at the end of spring. Assuming some kind of mineral…but when I tried to remove it underneath it was pitted…have you had this happen?

    • @PrairieSunsetRanch
      @PrairieSunsetRanch  Рік тому

      No I have not had this problem. I typically pull my heater out of the stock tank early spring and give it a light brushing with a wire brush. Keeps it working like new come fall. Sounds like you probably have some really HARD water or something. I would pull it out every so often and give it a quick cleaning this should prevent further issues. Cheers 🍻 my friend & keep in touch my friend.👌👍🍻🍻

    Did you ground this? The package inserts states you should.

    • @PrairieSunsetRanch

      Hi john. No we don’t have it grounded as it is plugged into a Harsh weather/Heavy duty 3 Prong outlet with its own built in breaker in case of issues. Hope this helps.
