The Story Of... Metal Gear
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 тра 2022
- We're going back to where it all started baby... METAL. GEAR.
If you're like me and became a fan of the series by playing metal gear solid back in the 90s, chances are you had no idea who Big Boss was and why he was so important to the plot. Now, this game doesn't answer many questions but it does give us the origin story of Solid Snake as a Foxhound rookie and his past with Big Boss.
The original Metal Gear didn't only introduce us to one of the most iconic video game characters of all time, it also gave birth to many of the staples we love and adore in the franchise to this day.
Since the story is shorter in this game, I did add more information about the gameplay itself since so many people have never played it and I wanted them to feel like they were actually experiencing some of it.
Let me know your thoughts down below!
Metal Gear MSX / Available on Metal Gear HD Collection - MGS3

I love that even the Fire Trooper came back as The Fury. I've never seen any game or movie series recycle characters as shamelessly yet somehow successfully. With all his genius, Hideo still clearly believes "If it ain't broke..."
Yep haha sniper wolf, the end, crying wolf & quiet always had me feeling like there’s never a bad time to have a sniper in a Kojima game haha
Most games were hard during this time period. "Beating " a game was an accomplishment. Nowadays games are made to be "finished" not beat
So true.
trueeeee
I almost feel like some things are to pad out the playtime but theres certainly a vibe to those hard games that can be very appealing, ghouls n ghosts comes to mind.
I want TO SAY IM USONG CAPS VECAUSE OF MY EXCITEMENT I AM GOING TO BUY MGS V TODAY NEVER PLAYED I PLAYED A FEW OF THE OLD ONES I WAS SEARCHING FOR A STORY RECAP ALOT OF THEM ARE 2 TO 5 HOURS AND BORING I RARELY GIVE LIKES YOUR STORY RECAP ARE AWESOME BOT TOO SHORT OR LONG AND YOUR ACTUALLY LOW KEY FUNNY I AM ABOUT TO BINGE ALL YOYR MGS STORIES TO GET CAUGHT UP SO I DONT HAVE TO PLAY OLD ONES THANKS LOL😊😊😊 @@ItsAmandaLemon
That’s why I play most games on the hardest or at least second hardest difficulty.
Can't believe such a complex game could be beaten at 80s.
Thanks Amanda, I came by chance across your "the story of" series. Was really struggling with MGS franchise but thanks to you, things are now...less chaotic 😅.
I know it really was ahead of it's time. Thanks for watching glad to hear it's a little less insane haha
I know I might be late to the video, but at 4:16, you asked who the architect is, and he is Kyle Schneider, that resistance leader. Now everything makes sense with why he would put fake walls.
sorry i’m a bit slow and new to the mgs series, why would it make sense that schneider would put fake walls?
Came here because I loved your peace walker video!
Me too.
I had no idea this was the origin of metal gear. I always thought my pizza hut demo of metal gear was one of the first/early iterations of metal gear when I was a kid. Great playthrough/origin story!
So did I for a very long time!
nice work.
Subbed.
Love the pacing. Soft voice and no needless screaming. Chill
Thank you!
19 year old that started with the phantom pain here!
There's such a weird vibe that I absolutely love about playing these really old games. I recently played snake eater and peacewalker (I'm doing a chronological order run and I LOVED snake eater) and when I reached this game right after the phantom pain I admit I was a bit stumped XD. Even though these games are way before my time it still takes me back to my childhood (Maybe because I used to watch AVGN, fucked up childhood ik) downloading and trying to play such games, I have retreated to eating chocolate and ice cream while letting an older person explain it though XD
EDIT: I think I got lost somewhere up there and forgot to thank and commend you for the great video! (English is not my first language pls forgive)
The first time I played the series, I did it chronologically too, and there's definitely a big jump from Phantom Pain to the two original Metal Gears.
@@Bertaut Colonel Campbell!!!!! Sorry I couldn't resist 😂😂😂😂
@@huntedboy28 Perfectly understandable.
I'm only 5 seconds in but just want to say your Metal Gear summaries are my fav, and they motivate me to actually finish the emulsion of organized chaos that is the Metal Gear Saga
The last of my completion list are MGS: Portable Ops, MGS: Peace Walker, MGR: Revengence, and MGS V in totality
Thank you!! You’re close! I’ve never played portable ops personally, let me know what you think!
OMG I just learnt on my 44th birthday that this boss wasn’t big boss but phantom pain snake
Thank you for that
AND I just completed metal gear 1 yesterday for the very first time and metal gear 2 today
just learning this too and im 16 lol i just wanted extra background info for mgsv
happy birthday!
I’ve never seen your channel before but I searched and found this video. Thank you so much for making this! I’m currently playing through Metal Gear Solid because Metal Gear was too hard. Your narration and summary was perfect. Throwing on your Metal Gear 2 video now!
Of course, happy to help clear anything up! Thanks for the kind words!
_Adopts Revolver Ocelot voice_: I've been waiting for you, Amanda Lemon... to do an amazing video like this! Thanks!
Hahaha thank you boss *salutes*
@@ItsAmandaLemon Anytime! I'm glad you got the MGS reference instead of thinking "WTF?!" lol! Great video, once again!
@@tyo101 Hahha of course!
Excellent! I could never bother to play the originals for more than like an hour. Thanks for this.
Great video! I beat this game in 1987. When I was 7! Don't ask how because I don't remember lol. But I do remember it being the hardest game I ever played up to that point. I didn't play MG2 till much later for some reason but I tracked down a copy of it when I heard about Metal Gear Solid being in development (which I learned of from an issue of EGM) I didn't even have a PlayStation yet lol. But either way I've been a fan since day one.
Thank you! and wow 7 is crazy to beat this hahah
Hey Amanda great video on covering the first game! its been a bit watching your videos but I used to watch you when you covered PT Silent Hills, man its been a bit. Glad I came across you again!
Awww so long ago! Thanks for being here!
6:43 some tanks have bulldozer shovels on the front for digging entrenchments.
Even though I love love love the franchise. I cannot get myself to play these games. However, clearly the story is very important, so thank you for the vids. Would love a modern day remake of these and MGS.
Would love that as well!! Thanks for watching!
Great video! We need a remake of this Metal Gear!
Ed Boy !
@@willsnothere8566 Chill woe!
@@TheUncannyOne Ned noi
Would love that!
Holy cow I am so glad that I came across your channel!! Just started playing MGS for the first time and I’m enjoying myself. I understand why people love it is much. The way you cover the stories is perfect so surprised you aren’t a massive channel. Awesome content!! I may need some help as I play through the rest so I’ll be back lol
thank you! and welcome to the fandom!
Just got Big Boss rank on this one, on to MG2 B)
Great video btw!
Congrats!
Awesome Video! I'll be using your vids to explain MG1+2 to friends who are new to the series.
thanks so much!
I did beat the Nintendo version when I was 14. With no help but took me AWHILE!!!!!
Dang that's some patience right there!
@@ItsAmandaLemon I wished that patience would have followed me through life!!!!lol
As someone who wants to get into this series but is also a parent, I want to play the MSX games but my god I would love to devote my time to the other games.
I feel this on a personal level lol
@@ItsAmandaLemon I'll definitely say you'd did an amazing job explaining both of the MSX games even better than what's included to be read in the Master Collection.
It's also just kind of odd to me that they're essentially the same as MGS1 minus a few different elements but a lot of the story beats are similar.
@@apaleguy thank you!!
Freakin love your commentary and overall description of the game! I’m a fan now
thanks so much!
Underrated and under appreciated game! I can definitely see that you’re a fan! I’m remaking this game into an anime like episodic series on my channel, I imagine it will be remade at some point in the future hopefully! It has potential to be great! Big boss and solid snake in the same game was always awesome to me.
I'm going through the chronological order of the Metal Gear games, first Snake eater remaster then I bought PW and sailed through MGSV(because I already had hour and hours on the game) and I came to trying MG and in short thank God this video exists 🙏😭🙏
I played 2 hours and never even got into the facility. I would’ve never beat this 🤣
lots of patience needed lol
The nes version was hilariously broken. It’s where I first played metal gear. In fact it was the sequel made on the nes that triggered kojima to make a true sequel.
Also in regards to the similarities between the original metal gear and metal gear 2 and solid 1 and 2 was deliberate. In fact mgs 1 and the raider section of mgs2 is exactly the same game as mg2: solid snake.
thank you so much for this video 💕
It’s going to take a while for me to warm up to solid snake after he killed venom… 07
great video thanks! I was gonna play MGS1 but I couldn't play the MG1 and MG2 so this helps a lot
Happy it helped :)
Me 1998: SNAAAKE!!
Your videos are awesome!
Thanks for the videos! MG1 and MG2 felt so boring so I'll just watch these videos and move on to Metal Gear Solid xD
haha happy to help!

'We find a prisoner who informs us that Dr Pettrovich was moved into another buidling'
I can not believe you didn't make Super Mario Bros. reference
I was a sega kid growing up lol
this was such a good recap. ty!
Nice job 💯! Really love your work, just descovred your channel 😍🤩
Thank you!!!
I thought I was a big metal gear fan but I had no idea that there were games before metal gear solid on ps1 which was the first game I ever beat as a child. Question is metal gear solid a remake of this original game or is it just very similar?
I loved the video, im finally getting into MGS so im watching these and they’re a HUUUUGE TIME SAVER. So thank you so much for the spoiler warning :)
Happy to help!!
Played for some hours and understood I am not ready for this 😅
Nice video! I'm a fan of MGS.
I just find you on a comment on a PewDiePie video playing fan games.
Love your series!
Thanks for watching!
I like ur reviews. They are relaxing
Thanks!
nice
Great Summary!
💕
snake may have been the rookie, but i didn't see grey fox punching the wall to escape
Such a great video❤
Thank you!
So big boss betrays his phantom?
What happens if you dont discard the bug?
I didn't want to watch your video but I enjoyed it great job and thank you for your hard work I tried playing the controls on pc are so tedious
I'm watching both videos of metal gear 1 and 2 before i start playing the solid games and- Jesus fuck Big boss just got hit in the head before this game??? he forgot everything
the end explains why! :P
yeah i got it @@ItsAmandaLemon 😅 what a twist
@@pollonigui8487 🤣
Hey but what did the guy at 9:20 said?
Hey, this is awesome
You’re too good to me
Ghost Babel next please
Kojima is such troll. In Good way. We need more peopole in gaming industry like him. 😅
Would be awesome to see this remade in Unreal 5 ...
What’s the song played in the beginning?
MG1 and 2 need remakes please, sometime before I leave this mortal realm.
MGS was just all of MG2 with better graphics and different area basically.
metal gear 2 please!
Killing off venom snake like that is so messed up bro.
Why Venom Snake is the villian here? If the answer contains MGSV spoilers then i don't want the answer. And i'm aware Venom Snake is not the real Big Boss
Bro doesn't know...
But I will say in the later games the vampires was a little stupid.
Nevermined
wild to think big boss was literally just some guy then we created so much lore we got attached to him.
And then you find out this Big Boss is actually Venom Snake
MSX version looks a lot better than the NES.
Funny thing is "Shoot Gunner" was a mistranslation of "Shotgunner"... Because he fires a shotgun. Get it? Shotgunner? Shotgun? No? They renamed him Shotmaker in the rerelease for MGS3 Subsistence.
