@@aheffner89 I like to think that it was a nod to the idea that BB was like “I’m gonna have my Own Fury, but like not as insane.” And recruited Fire Troopers. Like how he’d kinda put together his own “Cobra Unit” in a way, but it was Special Forces Foxhound instead.
@ well, I think there’s something to be said about that… like the whole point of MGS2 being a “remix” of MGS where Fatman has the “layout” of Vulcan Raven, Fortune kinda has a Big Ahh weapon, but it’s like the Sniper Wolf fight: where she’s got you pinned down and you can’t approach her. Vamp’s fight is strangely like Mantis, where he’s playing with the supernatural, and can stop you if he shoots your shadow. Not exactly like turning your TV to the Hideo channel… but his Arena is like that square you run around chasing after Ocelot. And you can’t step in the middle cos it’s an instant game over. Same fight, different rules. And the LORE based reason behind it being that the Patriot A.i. only knows how to remake the same scenario it already has data for, building it the same algorithmically but altering the structure. It can’t create anything new, it can only manipulate data within certain parameters… to try to Simulate the same process that “Made Solid Snake” by creating the perfect training program based on: Operation Snake Eater. Which is what I was getting at about the Fire Trooper being the second pass at doing The Fury again, but this time in a different boss Arena. One Step Further: Jungle Evil (from Metal Gear 2: Soild Snake): his arena is more like The Joy, hiding in the foliage of the field for camouflage. But he also has a Flamethrower. Just like his Precursor: Fire Trooper. So I theorize that Vulcan Raven may have been more like the melding of Machinegun Kid and Fire Trooper, but you can see where they kinda evolved from the original. But after Raven you get Fortune. Fury>Fire Trooper>Jungle Evil>Vulcan Raven>Queen Fortune>Raging Raven (who flies about like The Fury, funnily enough) but the Rail Gun is given to Crying wolf in another case of “Remixing” the same data. But this time by separating or “divergent evolution” rather than “convergence” like Firetrooper+Machinegun=Raven
I almost feel like some things are to pad out the playtime but theres certainly a vibe to those hard games that can be very appealing, ghouls n ghosts comes to mind.

19 year old that started with the phantom pain here! There's such a weird vibe that I absolutely love about playing these really old games. I recently played snake eater and peacewalker (I'm doing a chronological order run and I LOVED snake eater) and when I reached this game right after the phantom pain I admit I was a bit stumped XD. Even though these games are way before my time it still takes me back to my childhood (Maybe because I used to watch AVGN, fucked up childhood ik) downloading and trying to play such games, I have retreated to eating chocolate and ice cream while letting an older person explain it though XD EDIT: I think I got lost somewhere up there and forgot to thank and commend you for the great video! (English is not my first language pls forgive)

Great video! I beat this game in 1987. When I was 7! Don't ask how because I don't remember lol. But I do remember it being the hardest game I ever played up to that point. I didn't play MG2 till much later for some reason but I tracked down a copy of it when I heard about Metal Gear Solid being in development (which I learned of from an issue of EGM) I didn't even have a PlayStation yet lol. But either way I've been a fan since day one.

This game series has A LOT of twists and turns. It would be rude to ruin the fun for you and explain it all. You're better off ignoring all that stuff she said at the end for now. Come back and watch it again once you've completed the series. Also, I would recommend when you start playing the series, to play in release order if you have the ability. You get the most out of the story that way.
I needed a guide cos I could not locate that bomb blast suit. Sad to say that was the one sticking point. But in fairness I was checking every door, but by that point there were so many doors and keycards and none of the doors were numbered so I couldn’t tell if I was supposed to have access to a door yet and was walking around trying every door on every wall cos they literally all looked the same and got lost for actually days irl

The nes version was hilariously broken. It’s where I first played metal gear. In fact it was the sequel made on the nes that triggered kojima to make a true sequel. Also in regards to the similarities between the original metal gear and metal gear 2 and solid 1 and 2 was deliberate. In fact mgs 1 and the raider section of mgs2 is exactly the same game as mg2: solid snake.
This game didn't age very well. I'm toward the end, and I already know I'll never play it again once I beat it. I'm fine with it being difficult, I've played and beaten a lot of games from that era. My problem with MG1 is that the stealth mechanics themselves are just bad. This genre of game requires more under the hood than this generation of tech could adequately give. The game suffers a lot from it. I hear MG2 is way more polished and has more story, so I'm really looking forward to trying that one.

The first time I played the series, I did it chronologically too, and there's definitely a big jump from Phantom Pain to the two original Metal Gears.
