- Today I take you through a day in the life of my sweet Beckham. His therapy, stretching, feeds etc. This is life with CP! He is such a fighter and works so incredibly hard every single day to do the things that come so naturally to us. He is so incredibly inspiring. I am so proud of my little man.

I have cerebral palsy I know he can do so much, I’m proud of you for being an advocate for him. Doctors told my mom I’d be a vegetable and now I’m working on a masters degree in a foreign country. He will get there whatever that means you’ll be surprised by the leaps that he’ll make❤️❤️❤️

Your are both awesome parents remind me of my daughter and son-in-law my granddaughter is deaf and she has sensory issues tastes and textures when she was little eating can be a challenge exercise is so great I just love to seeing you doing that with him you're great with him you're doing everything you should be doing I remember my daughter making Jell-O cubes and putting them in a kiddie pool and having my granddaughter and squish them for sensory and textures so that she could get her used to that also she would boil noodles and put them in the pool and Betty would play with the noodles in the pool for the texture of and sensory part of it I totally understand what you're going through amazing parents
I'm raising my niece and she was unable to eat even thick baby food for the longest time. If she ate anything thicker than pureed thin baby food, she would gag and projectile vomit everything in her stomach. We had this massive "splash radius" around her high chair lol, had to make sure there was nothing within 6 feet or else it would likely get hit with puke. She couldn't eat cake on her first birthday, or her second birthday. We had a swallow study done and they didn't see any physical reason why she couldn't eat food. We were told that there was this amazing food training program for kids like her and then told there was a two and a half YEAR wait list for it. I remember thinking "so she's going to be going into preschool at 4 years old unable to eat solids?!"
Then we tried to start speech therapy for feeding. The insurance refused to cover it unless she was a stroke victim or diagnosed with autism. We had a sensory processing disorder diagnosis, and she had been evaluated at 13 months old for autism but they felt she was too young for a diagnosis at that time and told us to wait another 6-8 months. I finally decided I would just pay for it out of my own pocket. Then shortly after, covid hit.
I'm severely immunocompromised. So we had to take quarantine very very seriously. Shocking thing happened during summer 2020, she started tolerating food without gagging and vomiting. Out of the blue, she slowly began tolerating thicker foods. She just turned three and there's still some things she can't eat without gagging and we are currently working on taking bites of something. Like the other day she had a cucumber stick and she struggles with biting a piece off but she's getting there. She loves pizza and chicken nuggets and strawberries. I never thought that was something I'd be able to say anytime soon

She still has a journey ahead of her in catching up on eating & every now and then she gives me heart failure by choking but I honestly didn't think she would be eating solids for years. Now I get so excited to see her excited about eating pizza and everyone thinks it's weird I'm sure lol but it's such a big accomplishment for her. I remember showing up for her swallow study, where they coat various foods in this liquid that makes the food glow as they x-rayed her eating. They had Oreo cookies and crackers and all these foods that I knew there was no way she could eat. Thankfully we brought some shredded cheese with us and they let us use that for the test, they put the glowing fluid onto the shredded cheese and thankfully that worked. Hopefully you have a similar experience and one day he will just surprise you by eating too
I watched one family that started keeping a plastic shower curtain under the high chair. Worked great for them. Hope that.helps.

One thing my mum didn’t do growing up was keep up my PT so don’t worry mama your doing the best you can! ❤️❤️ I also have right sided cerebral palsy due to being born at 26 weeks I had a stroke at two days old

i think your positive attitude towards him is a large part of what encourages him to try his hardest (besides being a born fighter), he knows you’re proud of him and on his side. sometimes parents get frustrated and unfortunately kids can sense your mood so good on you for being very attentive to that. also his hair is soo beautiful, he’s the cutest boy. tbh special needs kids are the strongest and most inspiring humans you’ll ever meet and your son has such a light to him, it’s hard to explain but i’m sure you know what i mean :)

@@HOUSEOFHUGHES_ do ya know why he survived Rachel because I do he survived because he had two of the best most loving parents he could have ever wished for who never give up on him his survival is all down to you both as two loving parents who loved their son willing for hin to live well good on ya both for fighting so hard for him honestly this was such a sad story that ended so lovely and your baby Beckham is so beautiful Rachel he really is he.s just so amazing and you stayed so positive towards Beckham too congratulations to ya both xxxx

I do not know how I came to this channel but after watching the video about his birth, I was mesmerised and in aww of the strength and determination you and your family continue to strive for. I was born with Spina Bifida, Hydrocephalus and Chiari Malformation. My parents don't have any video of me as a baby/toddler, so it is so sweet watching you with Beckham and imagining how much joy my parents took in every bit of progress I made.
The love he obviously has for you is palpable; like I can almost feel the energy through the phone I’m watching this on. I could watch him all day he is adorable!

I think your an amazing mom. I have a special needs 17 year old son. Ashton has falling seizures he has cerebral palsy but he has a genetic disorder. I stay home with him some days I feel like I have no life. But God chooses us for a reason because we are strong.. thank you for sharing your story … you have a beautiful family…

I am 20 years old with spastic diplegic CP. I absolutely love connecting with/following families and individuals on unique medical journeys so as to learn as much as I can. I go through what I go through, but no one's journey is the same. As I've gotten older, advocacy has become so important to me. Given my life experiences, it is meaningful to me to do all I can to push for a more inclusive society for those that come after me (including Beckham)-- I know it's a part of my purpose. I'm a mama if a 27 week preemie as well. She also had a brain bleed. Surgery at 20 days old for a VAD then again at 8 months old . She was originally diagnosed with hemiplagia and has been rediagnosed with diapeliga Cerebral palsy. I've literally walked in your shoes . You are doing an AMAZING job. I have been doing this for 13 years now . Dont listen to the Karen's! My daughter has never ceased to amaze me with her progress. Huge hugs

I’m 40 and you could’ve taught me a thing or two about parenting! My kids are almost grown, but seeing how naturally you deal with and praise your son, I don’t think that’s something that can be taught. You either have it or you don’t. And you most definitely do! Your children are lucky to have a mom like you.
My sister has cerebral palsy, she just turned 33! She drives, has a job ect. She actually runs a line and is in charge of people at work. She lives a normal life. 🥰
Also want to add, all Dr's told my parents she would never walk. They said to just put her in a wheelchair and then refused.

Hang in there Mama!! ❤ My Daughter, Ava Leigh, was born at 23 weeks and she weighed 1 pound 1 ounce at birth, 11 inches... She's now my 3 year old warrior sassy princess! I never thought feeds would be the hardest part of Motherhood, but it's proven tough! Ava also has bad sensory issues and we still struggle with mashed potatoes. She gags and throws up instantly! This is the first video I'm seeing (BTW I subscribed to your beautiful family!) But she did fairly okay with feeds up until she started really getting teeth in. With the new sensation of her teeth, it just messed her sensory processing all up and we basically started over from scratch again 🥴 My daughter is all about scratching stuff too. She also has Cerebral Palsy and was born with a brain 4 bilateral bleeds. One thing that REALLY helped her tone was crinkle paper for sensory play. We keep tissue paper in the house and let her choose the color and then she just starts ripping the paper to shreds and LOVES IT!! It strengthend her muscles too because she's more low tone on her hers and high tone in her legs, her Dr's. Have brought up doing the shots in her legs too but I'm so nervous about that. Idk if she will be able to handle it... Also if your trying to get him to gain weight, idk if you've heard of "Duocal" but it's helped my daughter tremendously!! She will be 4 in Oct. but she's only 22 pounds still, we're getting there. But you can add the powder to any liquids and it's an extra 25 calories per scoop... I see so much similarity between your son and my daughter 🥰 so sweet! I've had so many Moms support me and help me in finding solutions or support for myself and my daughter, thar I just wanted to share a few things what really helped us!! I'd love to talk with you more if you'd like!
Our sons have so many of the same things going on. My son has several diagnosis including Sensory Integration Syndrome and has always been the same way about textures. Thankfully as he grew older it got to a manageable level. The amount of hours of therapy and specialists etc in my sons 15 years of life is astronomical. You are doing such an amazing job with him. My son born Sept 29th 2006 was born at 27 weeks and 2.8 lbs as well. Had heart surgery versus brain but our NICU stories are almost identical. Hes veen diagnosed with Social Pragmatic Communication Disorder. Asperger's, Sensory Integration Syndrome, Intermittent Explosive Dusorder ADHD and of course anxiety issues due to all of that. The fact you are making your life fit Beckham and not expecting him to fit your life says everything about you as a mother.

You guys are absolute gems! My daughter is 8 and she doesn't have any medical issues but she would vomit with sooooo many foods until she was 5, even now she's still sensitive but is definitely growing her food list xx

I had a cousin that had cerebral palsy she had metal braces on her legs for years this was in the 40s but she ended up getting married and having 2 children. She was a small frame person but you would never know she had cerebral palsy. Good bless you and your family thank you for sharing your journey.

I have a son that was falling off the chart for growth and we do a bottle with the infant formula that has a vanilla flavor to help. One thing for him is he likes his milk a little warm.

Beckham has the coolest personality just like his mother, Rachel!!! She is pretty chill about everything; “ Holy balls; BREAK!!!” This is what she said. No wonder why Beckham just rolls with the punches so easily. His mom is so cool and chill~ easygoing/ relaxed about basically EVERYTHING, and Beckham is pretty much like this also. I feel sorry for the people who gave this video a 'thumbs down'. It's clear (to me, anyway) that they can't see past their own unhappiness, to recognize how blessed this family is and how utterly ADORABLE those babies are. I just want to pick both of them up and cuddle them. Heck, if I lived nearby, I'd volunteer to babysit for free! Well, sort of free...my payment would be spending time with them.
My dad, who is such a caring soul, retired from being an occupational therapist, working with special needs kids at an elementary school most of his career. He, also, formed a Boy Scout troop which consisted of special needs boys and non-special needs boys; a couple of his buddies were 'co-Scout Masters' so that ALL of the boys would get all they could out of scouting.
I attended the school at which my dad worked (the "special ed" kids had a wing of the school separate from the "general ed"). Thanks to my him, I grew up not seeing not noticing much difference between those kids and the rest of us. Oh, that was ages ago... but this little guy helped me to remember just how lucky I was to grow up with kids like him.
