Fantastic blog Olly - absolutely brilliant seeing the engine rebuilding work on the 1690. Rob is worth his weight in biscuits!! 😂😊🚜👍👏 I’m a good 80% today. Discovery tow bar looks knackered.
Rob the legend I think is 36. Feeling 90% today. Very enjoyable video. We used to have a 1390 Case David Brown two wheel drive back in the day. Regularly got stuck in second gear...
Rob Is a handy man, great man to have around Olly,Engine rebuild was brilliant, love this type of stuff, where it's not perfect but you show everything(like the bent exhaust stud😀). Brilliant stuff
Great video again olly and congrats on winning the recognition award, must say never really comment on any posts on everyone I follow but great to see someone like yourself do so much for charity and for air ambulance, great to see a good working farmer that has the time to do what you do and have time to speak to anyone that comes upto you, keep doing what your doing as every video is interesting cheers Ps keeps my son happy watching the videos as he really wants to come and visit you he is only 4
Interesting video of engine rebuild be great to see the old David brown up and runing , 70% today unfortunately haveing tough time, seeing your daily video helps always something different, thank you👍
80% today Is rob about 32. Got a good team round you makes life so much easier. Good staff hard to come by. Great vid again used to drive 1394 and 1490 DB on the farm I worked on in the late 90s. Brings back great memories 👍
Great work on the rebuild, looks like Rob is in his element! I was surprised to find that the Speed Limit on our Disco changes when the Tow Bar is deployed. eg on Dual Carriageways shows 70 but 60 when towing. (Just another bit of IT to go wrong 😹)
I'm 97%, my little boy is 91%. We think Rob is 31. Nice video today, I should have sent my dad over, he'd have loved helping you both with the rebuild. Right up his street.
Hey ollie, just from previous experience with cleaning carbon buildup off engine components oven cleaner works amazing it seems to be really good at breaking down any carbon bonds but leaving the component without any damage and looking like new, it can need a few coats tho, just when you're using it wear gloves as it strips your skin off your fingers if your rub the gunk off with bare hands. just thought I'd let you know about it you may have something that works better, and I'm 92% today just started the final year of high school so a bit stressed but good to see your video and hope you're having a great day.
75% today bit tired and achy but fine in my head great to see the brown going back together hope you have a wonderful time at your in laws party cheers
Rob is a great guy to have on the farm, able to turn his hand to anything. I think he may be 32 ??? Fitted the rigid tow hitch to my Disco 5 it was a bit bulky and expensive (£900)! but, touch wood, never an issue. Really enjoyed the engine rebuild today. 80% today.
90% managed to get my new roof tent fitted to my car but haven't managed to get out in it yet looking forward to the cambrian rally next weekend you can't miss that it's close enough
Tip for putting in injectors is put some grease on the bottom where the copper washer sits then the washer then when u put it in the washer stays on injector
Just taken the engine out of my Massey 2135 ( 135 industrial ) and she’s off the the machine shop for head and block resurfacing, new valve seats, liners and a wash, in the meantime I have a starter, dyno and injector to rebuild
I'm only about 50% today. Bulged disc in the back coupled with sciatica pain down the left leg will do that for you 😅. But I've been starting my day by watching your blog which brightens the mood 💪
85% today Olly. Had a good day, went for a really nice walk round Worsley & United played well against Chelsea just couldn’t finish chances yet again. Finished off with an engine rebuild video which was a bit nostalgic even though I’m only 29. I remember rebuilding my 1.6 Rallye engine for my Peugeot 106 when I was 20 including tappet adjustment with feeler gauges & having to weld a bolt to a stud we snapped in the head to get it out 😆
@@OllyBlogsAgricontractfarmer Was amazing. Had Compomotive MO5 Alloys, 4-2-1 manifold with fully wrapped fully stainless Group N exhaust (With a dummy cat), cold air intake with hi flow filter. Absolutely loved it just wasn’t very good for driving to Southampton from Preston & back all the time 🤣
90% after seeing the 1690 going back together, brings back memories of doing my 1594 and22years later she's still doing a days work, normally on the conventional baler s they have a hand clutch for the pto great for when you plug the baler lol
Stick the copper washer on injector with a little smear of grease easy peasy. Grip thread of studs with a wooden clothes peg and squeeze the peg in the vice to prevent damaging the thread. Enjoy the 40th Birthday party, have a few sherberts.
The brass fitting between the two head's do be screwed in full to allow for the seal ring to be fitted and then loosen of the fitting compressing the seal. You can also replace a leaking seal this way without removing the head's. If you slide the injector washers up a screwdriver and put it down into the hole the washer slides down without going sideways. Keep turning engine the direction it runs when adjusting the tappets and you'll have 2 needing adjusted with Very little movement between each to get perfect. Give the pump a screw up! She's well able for it know! Have you got a new radiator for it, definitely a must.
Never rebuilt a diesel lump so can't comment on the smell! Brings back happy memories of rebuilding my rally car engines though! 65% today, bit of an improvement in covid again
Hi Olly just wanted to say that for the time and money gone in to the David brown you should get the turbo done before you get it working because it would ruin it if not
All tools are a hammer 🔨 unless it's a screwdriver 🪛 and then it's a chisel 😎🤣. You've got some proper good mechanics on the team between Rob, Andy and yourself. I think the new shed should be used as a bigger workshop 🤣👍
A little bit of grease on the copper washer will hold it on Injector as you put it in. Oh and for the turbo side to side movement can be normal. It the in and out movement you have to worry about. Put as always great vids 👌🏼
A truly exceptional man you are Olly with a kind heart.
I so admire your business acument, congratulations on this award, truly well deserved. 👏 👏👏
Rob’s age is immaterial, he’s a legend? Was about 75% but boosted to 90% watching the engine going back together. Keep up the good work!
Rob looks like he's around 27 to 30 great video looking forward to seeing 1690 going back together and seeing it work 😃
Whatever his age, anyone who can cart, cultivate, weld, dig, sow, reverse a trailer AND rebuild an engine, truly is a farmer. Love the rebuild.

Stick the washer on the injector with a blob of grease. Valve clearance it to allow for expansion so the valves are not held open

On the injector washers use a little bit of copper slip to hold them in place they don’t fall off then !!
