Now turning into extended metaphor add explanation so, Life is a rollercoaster you don’t know when you will be at the top or at the bottom, it will all happen in an instance, at the greatest heights you will be at the greatest heights and at times it will crash, but every day is never the same, just like in a turn in a Rolle coaster is never the same.

    when you open the paper. spend 5 mins reading the text. spend another 5 boxing off seperate parts of the texts for specific questions and then write sub headings for each paragraph. this allows you to have a good idea of what each paragraph is about. also mark the points of where the exposition, rising action, climax and resolution are. then write the time allocated for each question above the question u are answering. so if im answering question 2 i will write 10 mins from above that question and if you want to write the exact minute you want to fiish the question make sure you dont go overboard. also remeber to always pick write a story AND NEVER pick write about the image because thats wayyyyy harder.

    • @michaelluder4670
      @michaelluder4670 5 років тому +33

      Simple - the commenter, mma, uses first person perspective to give the reader insight into the protagonist's feeling by opening with the powerful simple sentence "I hate this question so much," which effectively shows the mounting pressures and difficulties faced by the impending exams. The text ends with multiple question marks to express their innermost toil and puzzlement. This leaves the reader with a clear understanding of the bewildering challenges faced by the gutsy student. Also, the clear pseudonym choice of the writer, "mma", may hint to their outlook that life is a battle, regardless of the arena.
      (The psuedonym point might be a bridge too far! 😁)

    A good structure to use (separate paragraphs for each)
    “In the beginning of the extract…”
    “In the middle of the extract…”
    “Near the end of the extract…”
    Good things to talk about is focus. What does the writer focus our attention on and why?
    And zoom. Why does the writer choose to zoom in on this particular object?

    • @mrbruff
      @mrbruff  2 роки тому +1

      You need to be careful with this approach. The November 2018 exam report stated: 'Students who did not do so well frequently used phrases such as 'at the beginning', 'in the middle' and 'at the end' but then narrated too much of the story, rather than considering not only what is

      happening where but the reasons why, and how reading about this at this point added to their understanding of the text as a whole.'

    • @subbhy3791
      @subbhy3791 2 роки тому +2

      @@mrbruff My teacher was insistent that we use this structure as a way to signpost that we will be talking about the whole of the source.
      I would go on to say something like: “In the beginning of the extract, the author focuses our attention on the bizarre nature of the house by zooming in on the door “with no handles” “
      Would this be fine?

      when you open the paper. spend 5 mins reading the text. spend another 5 boxing off seperate parts of the texts for specific questions and then write sub headings for each paragraph. this allows you to have a good idea of what each paragraph is about. also mark the points of where the exposition, rising action, climax and resolution are. then write the time allocated for each question above the question u are answering. so if im answering question 2 i will write 10 mins from above that question and if you want to write the exact minute you want to fiish the question make sure you dont go overboard. also remeber to always pick write a story AND NEVER pick write about the image because thats wayyyyy harder.

Just explain the overall effect it creates for the reader. Hope I helped you a bit? Just stick to timings as well. Hello
    We are moving to AQA from OCR for our English provision. I have queries concerning papers 1 and 2 for 8700 English Language.
    Some of the online 'support' and guidance varies massively in determining AQA's expectations for the questions, hence my post today.
    I understand that the quality of answers overrides quantity and that perceptive answers outscore the more obvious. Having said that -
    in the region of how many observations should students be making for each question? For example, Paper 1 Qu 2 - language observations - 3, 4, 5?
    Qu 3 - structure - 3, 4, 5? And for Qu 4 - how many structure observations might be expected alongside the language ones?
    Paper 2 - Qu 2 - how many similarities / differences? 3, 4, 5? How many points might you expect for Qu 3 and 4?

    • @mrbruff

      Hello. I would recommend reading the exam reports for every exam so far. Most of these things are covered in some way, although there is rarely a set 'this is how many points you should make'. For me, it's all about timing - around 1 minute per mark available is the time you should spend on each question.
      Here are a few relevant points to your questions from exam reports: June 2017 exam report on p2q2: 'Good responses included those where students identified a difference between the activities, selected appropriate textual detail from one text and inferred some meaning, before turning to the other text, selecting another textual detail and inferring something about the difference between both texts. Where this approach was repeated with a second difference, students were well-rewarded, according to the level of detail they offered and whether the quality of their comments was an attempt, clear or perceptive.'
      For p1q2 the 2018 exam report stated 'it seemed to be more widely understood by students that they would be rewarded for the quality of their analysis, not the number of features they could identify.'
      Nov 2018 was important for p1q3: 'Some of the less able students dealt only with the opening few lines, even though the question instructs them to ‘think about the whole of the source’. Students need to focus on the whole text in order to explore the development of character or events or themes and achieve Level 3 and above.'
      I would recommend buying my revision guide (linked in the description)!
