From what I understand: The thumb hole was originally a place your pinky went so that when you were doing repetitive cuts, but still needed two hands after each cut, you could simply drop the blade and let it dangle. Then when done, with a quick movement, you could have the blade in hand again. Sounds complex, but is actually simple and genius. Saves a ton of time! The “tactical” pinkie hole came later lol. You never came out with the full review. I ended up buying both, the Suru and the Yaru. I would say that is difficult to have a favorite one but tend to use more the Suru. I recommend to you to get the Fox Phoenix, I like it a lot.
I have the Ryu in "green" (it's really quite white) and love it. I need a better carry: with the techloc at the highest part of the sheath, it's handle-heavy, so scout carry across my low back means it angles down slightly. Not terrible as it puts the handle into perfect alignment with my hand when I reach back, but it's not hard to miss when you're behind me.
Got the monkey thumper recently, kydex sheath out of the box was quite tight, just need a break in and will work well. Unfortunately, ryu isn't available in my country. Love at first sight for bought monkey thumper and ryu. Love the ergonomics. How well does this knives went through? video was about 1 ago, would love to hear your feedback. Thanks and cheers!
The Monkey Thumper is quite an interesting design, and I wish I had been faster so that I could have scored the Black G10 PVD-version as well! @@PinkG10 I have fairbairn sykes and 10" tanto. The tanto is nice, but I don't like the handle. It feels squared and odd in the hand. The handle is a little big to me. I think I'm going have it rehandled to fit my hand better. Over all it seems well made. The fairbarin Sykes is nice, feels good in my hand. Seems well made. N690 steel. I done no testing with it. I wanted it because I've have wanted one since I was child. Its a wall hanger for me.

That's funny because my Ryu is more green than white :(. Wish it was more white.
