Great reaction, thanks! Obvously the outstanding drumwok is the centerpiece of this track. There is even a drumcam-video on the net that records the drummer Dany Carey (and only him!) throughout the whole song. It's a treat to watch and you can witness what a monster of a drummer he is :)
It's beautiful to watch a master in his craft. I also recommend you watch him play this song. Any true artist, music or not, will appreciate such a spectacle. And good work on playing through the song, bro. You did amazing. This sort of piece isn't for the faint hearted
When I listen to Tool my focus is on the lyrics, drums and bass. Watching you do the guitar parts has helped me visualize and appreciate the 4th member of that band.
Mike portnoy from dream theater just recently tried to learn this song on drums... he's an amazing drummer and still struggled lol. The video is pretty funny.
Dude, that was awesome!! I have never in my life seen someone play along while reading music like that, much less to a rhythmically maddening Tool song. As a life-long musician who never bothered to learn to read music… just wow! Keep it up, you rock!
@@makokuma7881 That means so much to me!! I honestly really enjoy doing this and yeah, I never learned how to read music either 🤣 (I can read it technically, but very slowly) So happy you like this kind of video. Thank you bro!!! 💙🎸🤘
@@CrazyAwesome you’re still reading it, still impressive, even if not the official way to read music. Is this just based off guitar hero? Never played it, I’m old haha.
@makokuma7881 So yes, it's basically like Guitar Hero for adults. But waaaaaay better because you're using an actual guitar to practice instead of a plastic one. 🤣 Thanks buddy! I appreciate it!
Dude, just found your channel but this is great stuff. Dream Theater, Rush and Tool? Yeah, I’ll be sticking around, got a new sub from me! The fact that you are sight reading some of these complex pieces is impressive. Keep up the great work man🤘👍
Man you're a legend! Thank you so much bro and I know right? People have been really killing me with these requests 🤣 so many tough songs but I'm enjoying it! THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE SUB MAN! Welcome to the Awesome Army! 🎸🤘💙🤝
That was crazy awesome to watch. Sounds like you have more tool playthroughs, too. I'll have to watch. I didmt even know this was a thing. Would like to see you rezct to the song after you've played it.
Tool's writing process is different from most bands. The music is written first and the singer Maynard adds the lyrics after the instrumental part of the song is for the most part complete. Danny/drums, Justin/bass and Adam/guitar jam on a musical nugget and record the session. Then listen and arranging the parts of the songs into a completed crafted song. By most accounts from interviews it's a tedious and laborious process but the finished results are obviously well worth the effort. I really enjoy these tool reactions. I'll second other commentors in recommending that you be sure to check out the live Drum Cam version of this song with the cameras on Danny Carey the whole song. It's mind-blowing
That's actually super interesting that the music is written first and then lyrics are added. That actually sounds so tedious and tough. They realy care about the music that they make. That's amazing 💖🙌
There is a live video of Danny Carey playing drums to this. Most reactors watching it, including drummers and drum teachers struggle to get the time signature. There is also a Drumeo video of Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater trying to learn this on drums and even he struggles to "crack the code". Worth a watch to see this played on drums even though you are a guitar player. And found your channel a little while ago. My oldest son (17) started n guitar but is now 99% electric bass and upright bass, But when he was doing guitar, I also bought myself a guitar and Rocksmith and started to learn. It was so helpful but I just didn't have the time to commit. But enjoying your videos. Keep it up!
There's a live video of this? That's really cool, dang that is insane. I'd definitely love to check that out, that sounds actually crazy! Ooooooo that's so cool! Yeah Rocksmith is AMAZING, but it still takes a lot of time to learn so I get not having the time. Thanks for this comment buddy!
I think it's the most legitimate music reaction Ive seen on youtube so far and i'm not even kiding 😄 You seem like a very nice person 😁 Keep on the good content !! 😁🤘🤘
@@Mdefoy83 THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! That's so sweet of you. It's comments like yours that really keep me going. That really touches me, I'll keep on spreading the love and passion man! That's my goal! 💙🤘🎸
You're doing great, man. That's the thing about Tool. They're simple but not so simple. Feel and timing definitely work differently with polyrytms. I'm loving the reactions. If you've not checked it out, I think Cult of Personality by Living Colour would be cool. They're an all African American rock band from the late 80's early 90's. It might be pretty difficult to sight read the lead.
I actually have learned basically the whole song and I've known it for years and years LOL but it would be great to put on the channel for Rocksmith. I actually have a normal guitar cover of that song if you want to see a younger me hahaha. And thanks bro! Stay Awesome!!! 🎸💙🤘
@@CrazyAwesome Too damn cool. Vernon Reed is a beast. The whole band is super talented. The B side of the single digs into some funk rock. A little precursor of Rage Against the Machine, in some ways.
"these rhythms are so tough." Tool is known for their polyrhythms and taking a long time on their intros lol. You mentioned in your schism video about their drummer, Danny Carry is great. You should check out his drum cam for this song.
@@CrazyAwesome I think most lists rank Lateralus as their best song, although my favorite changes week to week. Sober or The Pot probably get the most radio airplay, but I don't have either in my top 10. I think most Tool fans would say that their favorite Tool song is the one they are currently listening to, each one has a gift to give.
As for your question, how the drummer counts this: He doesn't. In a interview he said something along the lines that counting confuses him. Adam Jones, the guitarist, on the other hand, says he is "too busy counting" during a concert to do anything else besides playing.
Well... The easiest way for me to conceptualize that main riff is to think of it as being "in 11" with each beat subdivided into a triplet... There are a few other equally valid ways of counting it as well. Peace.
This just reminded me that I was considering this for my son to learn guitar. I'm not a great teacher & he loves games. Steam shows Rocksmith having terrible reviews though, and it's a subscription now? Can someone please give me any input on this game or if there's an older/different better version? Thanks ✌️ Loved this playthrough though!
Thanks bro! So, here's the breakdown. (TLDR: Rocksmith + is horrible, Rocksmith 2014 is awesome and get it if you can.) The version I'm playing is Rocksmith 2014. The version that has terrible reviews, is "Rocksmith +" (Rocksmith Plus) which is a horribly "updated" version of the game. Basically they made it like Netflix for guitar, and yeah it's a subscription service, the interface looks way worse, and they didn't include a ton of details in the previous game. Rocksmith + is mostly a huge cash grab, while the OG Rocksmith 2014 is way better in so many different ways. Especially because you pay ONE price and that's it. You own it forever. Sadly you can't purchase Rocksmith 2014 digitally anymore because they're trying to get people to buy the new Rocksmith. Which is terrible so I'd advise against it. You can't get Rocksmith 2014 on PC anymore sadly. However, if you have a console (like Xbox or PlayStation) You can still play Rocksmith 2014 by ordering it online. Probably can find it on Ebay or something. Would I recommend Rocksmith 2014? Absolutely. It's a huge reason of why I still play guitar. So many amazing features including a "Guitarcade" which is basically an in-game arcade which allows you to play a bunch of games using your guitar as a controller. So anyways. I can't recommend RS 2014 enough. Stay away from Rocksmith + though. That's my recommendation
