6:21 There was an actual incident like that. Basically, the Northern Pacific (or some other RR) had a turntable and a steam locomotive was waiting on one of the tracks. The engineer thought that the turntable was being lined for him, but in actuality it was being set up for the next track over. When it reached his spot, he pulled open the throttle, the loco surged forwards, the turntable continued on, and the engine's pilot buried itself in the ballast of the turntable pit.
Great compilation of the wrecks! This model club layout nearly rivals with the Northwestern Railway from Thomas with all the crashes. If the guys of the club i am part of see this, they would tear their hair outta their heads with all the derailments and crashes. Also, here's a list of things to prevent damage to your models. *Level out the sections / fix any misalignments or kinks in the tracks *Convert all rolling stock to Kadee metal couplers *Curl up or cut off the coupler hoses that get caught on switches and diamonds. *Make sure all rolling stock are in compliance with NMRA coupler height gauge. Also, when consisting locos, put the fastest ones at the front of the consist and the slowest ones at the rear. However, if the locos have DCC, change the CVs to equalize the speed curve.
These films are a total hoot to watch, the sound effects, and such just make them hilarious. Between the cat without proper track and time permission and the occasional "Nope" It's hard to not keep laughing. The junction near the interlocking tower should be called "Malfunction Junction" 🤣
I noticed a lot of the derailments are caused by the airbrake pieces hanging off the couplers. They often tend to hang too low and get caught on cross tracks, switch tracks, and sometimes even the molded track ties themselves.
It's expensive or hard to replace/repair tracks or car ? You showing like always the same spot, a good example is the railroad crossing with one track ending in void, always couplers issue
If this layout was built to represent the Penn Central (Which I know it's not), then it would be the most prototypical model layout ever. - Sid
