Another great video! Thank you! I always look forward to your videos. Would love to learn more how you manage your options positions. Do you use stop losses? Do you leave runners? Do you use different dates ranges for different trade strategies (ie. scalping, earnings, swings, etc.)
Would be great if you can maybe touch on what are the signals you look for to determine if it's a good option to play or not. Considering when you look for options, you're looking for outsized returns.
@Arete CPI Absolutely increased....314 is higher than 313 which was the last reading. You based the "lower" off of what the consensus was, not what the actual data was...
AT: I know of your experience trading options, but your method will not work for a majority of investors.
Buying short term calls before earnings is extremely risky, because of the volatility crush, so the stock could go up, just not by a lot, and you would still lose money.
A much safer way of doing it is a deep ITM/ITM debit call spread, 2 weeks out. This way, the volatility crush works in your favor. If the stocks goes up, stays the same or even goes down a little, you still make money. It will not be a 10 xer, usually profit would be 40-50%, but the risk of loss is significantly lower. I haven't had an option go down to zero in more than 3 years, and almost all of my trades are in options.

Agreed on options, why I will only sell them, usually puts, and they almost always expire worthless or I can roll them down and out or take the stock at a cheaper price that it was at the time of the trade.
I would ABSOLUTELY like some strategies for options. I think the only thing I do somewhat effectively is sell covered calls and csputs which I choose based on a price I like and a return on capital I’m pleased with. After that, I feel like I mismanage even simple calls and puts. I lose more often than win and the wins aren’t home runs. Haven’t even tried more complex strategies. ANY tips would be appreciated.. a series from a pro would be OUTSTANDING.
It is not easy, and for the reasons you mentioned. The potential for big losses is very high. It took me years of study and losses to get to a point of making a good consistent profit. I love to teach and would have liked to make a video series if I had the time, but unfortunately I don't.
Here is my advice for you: until you learn in depth, only trade ITM calls on SPY. Buy them on the dip, 1-2 month expiration, hold them until you get at least 20% profit, then sell, and repeat the cycle. Dump them for small profit or loss if SPY breaks support or if time is running out (don't hold on to them if they have less than 2 wks to expiration
For more in depth learning, read the book "options as a strategic investment) and watch videos on the Greeks and on implied volatility. Paper trade the complex option strategies for at least 6 months before trying them, and good luck

holy insane day. got my 10% pop on Lending Club. AAPL puts at the 220 mark. Noticed that the 210 calls gained from 0.02 to 10.00 in 2 days 500x, probably the move for the week and could not possibly go higher based on that option move so got the puts.
I do think we will see rotation now into some mid-caps and financial names. We basically need to hold the dow up or XLF through some sort of rotation or Dow can fall very hard if it doesn't hold more or less here. Idk how the hell 3M INTC BA are gonna hold that thing up. They are going to need Financials, GS, besides MSFT and AAPL and maybe thats not a surprise they include NVDA in it.
Or just buy a semis ETF and let it grow without timing or selling.

got absolutely wrecked on tesla short today worst day if the year for me I was leveraged x 2 all in, hurts, figured fears of upcoming news would pull it back down a bit more.

I am a swing trader and I am about 160% invested and today I was up 4% on my account that has about 15 names in it. My positions are swing positions but when I have a day like today I want to take profits. How would you go about taking profits on a day like today if you were me? I have thought about maybe reducing all of my positions by half or a third, expecting that tomorrow they will be down and then maybe I can buy them again. Is this a good strategy or should I just hold for the swing? I feel like reducing or exiting my swing positions might be trying to do too much but I just hate to see gains fade away
If it’s a long term hold will you sell covered calls where you’d normally trim. Maybe on 1/2 the position.
