This is by FAR my favorite book from her! I love all the little drawings. i have been dreaming of a book like this. It fits in to the time I have to color. And it's so cute!
So cute, and quite beautiful. I’m unfortunately not a huge fan of the paper in Johanna Basford books, so I’m not getting anymore. I will enjoy the little victories through you. 😅
Hullo Gem, lovely coloring session! I bought a book of the birds of the 50 United states and before I did any coloring I scanned all of the pages. I set the book out for my nephews to color in and one asked if he could use some watercolor pens and the paper in that book did not even like that! I decided to see if I could use some kind of surface preparation to allow some water media. I tried watercolor ground from QoR and the best option was clear gesso from Liquitex applied with a foam brush! I did not prevent using pencils or other dry mediums but now they can use everything from regular watercolors, Neocolor II's to regular crayons and color pencils! I do enjoy your chatter during your videos, It feels like a friend visiting for an afternoon cup a tea! So Thanks and have a grand day!
This is fun book! I received it and couldn't quit coloring! I am using Micron pens and Staedtler pens. After trying them out in the Test pages and discovered no bleed through. I've colored the entire cover, front to back and started picking out little gems here and there. I like how you did the background on that page. Think I will try that out too. My Prisma colored pencils are in the same shape as yours. I have a bunch of short stubby ones in extenders that are almost too short to sharpen. lol! Can't wait to see what you choose to color next!
I only got my book in the mail yesterday, so I haven't coloured anything in it, yet. However, I will share my Polychromos experience in the Discord or on the next video when I do. :) It seems like a perfect book for some casual colouring after work or something.
Unfortunately I hesitate to buy this book because so many reviews talk about print errors and the paper feeling cheap. Bummer, because this would be right up my alley otherwise--I love the smaller size and cute little drawings. You did a great job here. I especially love how you did the background!
Thanks! I'm not sure of the paper yet either, I think I'll try a few different pencil brands/mediums and report back at a later date. Thanks for the comment!
I haven't had the chance to color in the book yet. I got my copy last week, but it was faulty (I had print errors). My bookstore here replaced it pretty quickly though, got it yesterday in the mail and I'm looking forward to coloring in it. I did notice the paper is a bit "weird", but we'll see. I love those tiny rockets so much! I hope Johanna does more with this. Can't wait for you to continue on with the page once you're ready to do so. Sending lots of hugs, Gem! I'm here for you, you know that.
Hi Gem I really enjoy following along with you on your wonderful tutorials. Your background is amazing!! What set of watercolour paints are you using? Thanks, Cory
Hi Cory, the paints I'm using here are by Julia k Art Studio - handmade watercolours from Sweden. I sell some of Julia's colours in the Stash Shop (and adding more all the time), but currently don't stock her holo paints - you can purchase these particular colours from her Etsy store. Links to both sites are in the description under the video.

I have been toying with the idea of watercolour ground again, I know we have talked about it before. This might be the book for it. We'll see.
Always excited for a new color & chat series! 🎉

Electric Blue is renowned for being a funky textured pencil, replacing it prolly won't make a huge difference. Just to let you know 😊
