Steering rack replacement on bmw have to be coded to car angle sensor have to coded calibrated as well, also that bush from steering rack with spring can not be to tight,it must be tightened to a point what you still can turn your actual wheels with hand when car lifted if it’s to loose it will knock on a bad road and sound like a bad drop link bush.if to tight steering wheel keep locks on a turn and will not come back to straight position, anyway good luck👍
To adjust toe in toe out or negative and positive cumber you don't need to remove the steering rack. You should have got the measurements from BMW and align with alignment tools.
The angle sensor fault comes from the ring that is located before the steering wheel. You had rotate it to much on a sode and when you steer the ring wheela make the fault. Check the arrows on it to verify if its aligned good. All other option that you are doing are usel unfortunately on thw bmw the make thw wheels str8
To center the steering rack, just open inner bellows, push rack to Center until both ends have equal distance to housing. Then reposition the grey Center Position cap on 54tooth input schaft, so that the v notch aligns with line on sensor housing 3.3 degrees tolerance. Finished. You can do that with steering gear in car. It learns center by moving rack to both end stops or driving straight. The pin on input shaft is for turn counting. Steeringangle is measured at the electricmotor shaft with highest precision sensor that also controls the Motor movement. If electric center is more than 13 degrees off, axle kinematic is incorrect, too far off, out of tolerance. Out of BMW spec. One tie rod could be too long for heavy impacts. By the way: the yoke play has to be adjusted to about 0.035mm at center. Otherway you will have issues
@@SalvageMasterV sorry i am not on insta. My advise is to find a used M steering gear. The assembly of such a steering gear from manufacturer Thyssen takes a lot of training and special tools, mechanical and like for programming, performing calibration Jobs for torque sensor... Laptop, Power supply, flexray interface... even too sophisticated for BMW Service. I left X5 steering project a long time ago so i cant help a lot. If you moved the rack into end lock without inner tie rods, the gear is damaged, bearings deformed. I hope the complete vehicle alignment is okay, otherwise there should be issues like error messages. If the front and rear axle are out of spec you, there will be an error. The steering angle for stability program gets validated in steering ecu, then if validated correct, sent by flexray to several vehicle Dynamic controllers like ESP DSC... you could try an alignment procedure at BMW service but i think with your selfbuilt steering there will be a lot of issues. Funny sounds are the smallest Problems then. And M has more direct steering ratio. The teeth on the rack and pinion are different by about 10 percent more direct. 10 teeth or 9 teeth on pinion. I think Software is just flashing and coding to vehicle. Easy for experienced BMW programmer Newer Systems like in F95 are slightly different and wont fit
Well it's like anything when you are trouble shooting something you gio thru the steps and eliminate the things where you think this could be an issue or this could be an issue, and of course when it comes to alignments, when you are doing them at home and trying to get it straight and looking at camber and toe well you can only do so much a shop that has a proper alignment rack can give you a proper readout of everything and tell you to a degree and percentage point tough for a fella to do that at home but you did your best to try and get it and you knew something still wasn't quite right with the way the wheels were sitting Taking out the steering rack is a lot of work no way around it, but like I said before your a perfectionist at heart but I dont blame you at all in this case, I think you could have taken it to an alignment shop and they could have got it best they could but I would bet this would have reared it's ugly head down the road, so bite the bullet pull the rack and fix it right, I would say for a guy who hasnt toyed and did deep dives into a steering rack before, you look like a pro and you go it done and as you said you learned something new... all in all not too shabby and now this lil headache is out of the way and fixed Good job Val Look forward to the next upddate
Been watching since day1 when it was supposed to be a gift to your wife. At this rate she will turn 65 by the time its completed. Also the depreciation in its value, was it really worth it???
when replacing the steering rack with a replacement used or new one does it need to be coded to the car I have a 18 X5 M and having noise coming from front when I spin the steering wheel and it just sound like something is rubbing when I spin the front wheels/steering wheels kinda sounds like its spinning dry/on no fluid but there is no resistance nor like hard to spin it so I'm still trying to figure out my issue damage was mainly in passenger side wheel pretty hard hit.
If you wan't to learn, use ISTA. Then you won't spend half a day doing wrong things. You don't need to take out steering rack to align it. You can do with ISTA in 5min.
@@SalvageMasterV i did. and i can repeat - use ISTA and learn! 1. you can adjust middle point. 2. you will understand what you can do with that adjustment cover.
@@SalvageMasterV i gave you advise, you can use it or not. Just don't rush to take everything apart. You can teach middle point without taking it apart. You have several BMW - ISTA would be best option for you to save time.

Whenever a new video with it done and ready to drive comes... the video will blow up on UA-cam!
You mean NEVER 😬🤣🤣
@SalvageMasterV I still pray for it... either next month or in 2030, what matters is that final video 😁
Amazing project. With you since the beginning
That was quite the job, pretty awesome you were able to diagnose it and now it won't drive you crazy trying other things to fix it.
That was a lot of work, but now you know it's right, which is the main thing.
Great job!!!! Your learning, that’s priceless just remember that.

Hello. I really admire you for the work done. it is not within everyone's reach.respect
What if you stretch the belt on the steering rack motor or remove the belt and adjust the steering rack and then but the belt on the motor back in?
Let's see what's new...hy from 🇭🇷
I THINK the Bmw will be for your child (the baby) when you finish

They can fix that on alignment no problem
I don’t understand why the steering rack wouldn’t adjust by adjusting the track rod ends? But hey I’m no mechanic 😀
