Thanks Chris. I am in the UK and a couple of years ago I started looking into Jonestown stuff as I came across it ‘by accident’ in a YT vid. The various research projects, conspiracy theories, potential cover-ups, collusion, site footage and even the ‘live’ TV filming from the runway when people were murdered is something that is difficult to get your head around. Crazy stuff.

Unfortunate true story. I was born in San Francisco and lived on Valencia Street, and we were invited to peoples temple. in fact my mom used to have some sort of flyer from the church. Pretty frightening. A few years later we moved to Livermore, Ca, and I remember vividly when the story came over the news. my parents were shocked to say the least. I also remember there being docu-dramas coming out not long after and there being survivors of Jonestown interviewed and basically saying people were not all just drinking the koolaid, some did voluntarily, but many had guns in their face, others were injected. it's insane. it's why I have always had a fascination with cults, having a somewhat non substantial but real connection to one.

I was two and a half years old when the massacre happened, and it's terrifying to hear the toddlers who were my age at that time screaming from dying in their mother's arms on that day. The audio "death tape" might still be available on UA-cam, but I'll warn you it is extremely disturbing and VERY difficult to listen to. And at the end of the documentary Jonestown: The Life and Death of the People's Temple, the ending will make any person with a pulse sit there and cry because it was such a senseless and despicable tragedy.

I worked with a young girl who told me that Jones had good ideas that were misplaced. When I tried to point out the absurdity of her statement, she replied " Jones and Manson had to go to extremes to get people to hear their cause." I quit a week later. The message from this tragedy/genocide is lost on Gen Y & Z because they werent taught it.😢

??? All the people who died at Jonestown weren't Gen Y/Z, they weren't born yet. They didn't fall for Jim Jones' spiel, that must've been someone else... And he did have good points, like "treat people like human beings regardless of race or gender" which was still considered radical for the time. But he was a drug addict and megalomaniac. So let's keep the generational nonsense out of the conversation.

I remember watching a documentary about a different cult, they mentioned some possible reasons why people join.
People who are vulnerable can be targeted. Eg. After a death of a loved one and the loss of hope and utter sadness… some may be looking for a sanctuary and support. Then it grows over time into that manipulation.
Another could be someone is looking for a “purpose,” a “meaning,” and seemingly someone is providing that.
The documentary was about the cult ‘Heaven’s Gate.’ This cult began in the 1970s also. The members all killed themselves. The photos from the discovery are truly haunting. A content warning for anyone looking into it.
Each member’s identity was stripped from them, their only identity was the cult.

Thank you for doing a video on this subject. Jim Jones was a truly sick man, he grew up with his mom giving him crazy ideas that he was meant for great things in life even though both of them were insane. There are recordings of during one of his preachings he encouraged many of his followers to beat someone and during the entire time you can hear the sicko in the background giggling like a pedophile at the violence that he was able to cause. What you failed to mentioned that once his followers followed him to Guyana, they couldn't leave as the sicko and his inner circle took everyone's passports and any kind of money they had forcing them to stay

Same reason they get involved in other forms of cults today. It fills a void, and makes people feel like they’re needed, or others need them. Religion, social justice, politics. Just new forms of religion, imo.
