I’ve listened to the entire audio from the night it all happened and it’s horrific- especially hearing the poor babies succumbing to the poison. It’s haunting.
I remember this. I was at a Catholic Boarding school. Then nuns were, devistated. They taught us about false leaders. It was a sad time. Holy Humility of Mary Nuns, you made a difference in my life. I thank you.
Thanks Chris. I am in the UK and a couple of years ago I started looking into Jonestown stuff as I came across it ‘by accident’ in a YT vid. The various research projects, conspiracy theories, potential cover-ups, collusion, site footage and even the ‘live’ TV filming from the runway when people were murdered is something that is difficult to get your head around. Crazy stuff.
He was a wolf in sheeps clothing . The Bible warns us about these people but sadly there are always those who cannot see through the deception and they follow blindly.
Unfortunate true story. I was born in San Francisco and lived on Valencia Street, and we were invited to peoples temple. in fact my mom used to have some sort of flyer from the church. Pretty frightening. A few years later we moved to Livermore, Ca, and I remember vividly when the story came over the news. my parents were shocked to say the least. I also remember there being docu-dramas coming out not long after and there being survivors of Jonestown interviewed and basically saying people were not all just drinking the koolaid, some did voluntarily, but many had guns in their face, others were injected. it's insane. it's why I have always had a fascination with cults, having a somewhat non substantial but real connection to one.
I was two and a half years old when the massacre happened, and it's terrifying to hear the toddlers who were my age at that time screaming from dying in their mother's arms on that day. The audio "death tape" might still be available on UA-cam, but I'll warn you it is extremely disturbing and VERY difficult to listen to. And at the end of the documentary Jonestown: The Life and Death of the People's Temple, the ending will make any person with a pulse sit there and cry because it was such a senseless and despicable tragedy.
I worked with a young girl who told me that Jones had good ideas that were misplaced. When I tried to point out the absurdity of her statement, she replied " Jones and Manson had to go to extremes to get people to hear their cause." I quit a week later. The message from this tragedy/genocide is lost on Gen Y & Z because they werent taught it.😢
??? All the people who died at Jonestown weren't Gen Y/Z, they weren't born yet. They didn't fall for Jim Jones' spiel, that must've been someone else... And he did have good points, like "treat people like human beings regardless of race or gender" which was still considered radical for the time. But he was a drug addict and megalomaniac. So let's keep the generational nonsense out of the conversation.
As my mom told it, she was pregnant with my older sister, she was supposed to go but didn't. Almost a year later I was born. I feel like she isn't telling me the whole story on what role my father played.
This was so horrible it was nearly incomprehensible. One positive worth mentioning was an aid to Congressman Ryan was seriously wounded in the attack, and later went on to win her own seat in Congress. Jackie Speier recently retired..
And then she became a gun control anti-2nd Amendment activist. The guns didn't kill, and if she thinks so, she knows nothing about the how's and why's of what went down in Jonestown.
I remember watching a documentary about a different cult, they mentioned some possible reasons why people join. People who are vulnerable can be targeted. Eg. After a death of a loved one and the loss of hope and utter sadness… some may be looking for a sanctuary and support. Then it grows over time into that manipulation. Another could be someone is looking for a “purpose,” a “meaning,” and seemingly someone is providing that. The documentary was about the cult ‘Heaven’s Gate.’ This cult began in the 1970s also. The members all killed themselves. The photos from the discovery are truly haunting. A content warning for anyone looking into it. Each member’s identity was stripped from them, their only identity was the cult.
Thank you for doing a video on this subject. Jim Jones was a truly sick man, he grew up with his mom giving him crazy ideas that he was meant for great things in life even though both of them were insane. There are recordings of during one of his preachings he encouraged many of his followers to beat someone and during the entire time you can hear the sicko in the background giggling like a pedophile at the violence that he was able to cause. What you failed to mentioned that once his followers followed him to Guyana, they couldn't leave as the sicko and his inner circle took everyone's passports and any kind of money they had forcing them to stay
What an impact that event had . Even where I live in northern Canada I heard people use the phrase " I won't drink the Kool-Aid ." When they've been asked to tow the company line against their better judgement . What an ego case monster Jones was .
Thank you for what you bring to the table on the Jim Jones and followers. I haven’t seen the footage you shared in this video. I really appreciate that you GO TO THE LOCATIONS you speak of.
Same reason they get involved in other forms of cults today. It fills a void, and makes people feel like they’re needed, or others need them. Religion, social justice, politics. Just new forms of religion, imo.
I was watching that on TV when that happened. It was devastating, I felt mostly bad for the children who had no choice. Thank you for coving this as it should never be forgotten.
Some of the Children, I heard had to be Injected via Needle/Syringe💉 such a shame for such Precious young Children to be taken from this world 🌎 at such Tender Age.
Poor Kool-Aid. They got such a bad name from this event, and they didn't even drink Kool-Aid. It was Flavor Aid. Jim wouldn't even spring for the brand name fruit drink.
Since such a Tragic event occurred there, I can't help but 🤔 Ponder if around that area if ppl hear Crying & Screams, When a Tragic event occurs it causes Unrest in the soul such as being forced to give up one's own life.
If I remember correctly it was Jones’ adopted son who wanted his name on that plaque, for some bizarre reason the man holds his daddy in high regard and keeps him on a pedestal
@@rosastephens8966 my family is a bunch of maniacs at least they didn’t force almost a thousand people to poison themselves and inject the ones who refuse with poison
Exceptionally sad to remember this tragic event. One would have to be a very superstitious thinker and perhaps feeble-minded to fall for a con artist like Jim Jones. Anyone who wears sunglasses indoors has either something wrong with their eye sight, or, they've got something to hide.
I knew that Jim Jones kept in contact with his "second mother" MYRTLE KENNEDY in his hometown Crete, Indiana for many years. Mrs Kennedy took young Jimmy Jones to church all the time. Mrs Jones had many family problems so young Jimmy was like an orphan wandering the streets of Crete. I wonder if Mrs. Kennedy really knew how far gone Jimmy got? Mrs Kennedy and her husband cared for young Jim Jones very much.
Linda Sharon Amos was not in LA when she... entered a new dimension... She was in Guyana - just not at the Agricultural project area... in the main city.
French Guiana was a prison colony for a century. If the cult members did their research they never would have settled in this hell jungle in the first place. Simply watching the movie Papillon should make people not want to go here.

The Sacrament is a sad movie loosely based on Jonestown. I’ve read a million things on Jim Jones and he was so scary!
"Why do people get involved with cults?" My question is, why do people get involved with organized religon?

Wow!! tell us more , i'm listening . Wisdom and truth is what im seeking , especially back then.
Fun fact, The United States Postal Service building next to the Fillmore in San Francisco was Jim Jones’ former Church!

Sad. They were trapped in Guyana and so many died. Very few occupants of Jonestown survived. So many unclaimed bodies.
I cannot comprehend how sane, conscious, self-determining beings can follow a "leader" so blindly.
What a sad story that ended on a very sad note. to all of those people Rip. I have no interest in watching any of that. Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting. I followed this story a few years back but never thought about where the bodies went to. I had no idea they were flown back.
