    Gabriel Rockhill consistently provides an informed, nuanced, and accessible critique of critical theory. I highly recommend his interviews and articles.

    53:00 Rockhill's answer to the question about actually existing socialism is incredibly spot on. Can't be repeated enough in the West. Had to come back to re-listen.

      this portion of the interview can and *should* be applied to revolutionary national liberation movements. from eurocentrism does the western left not support the front lines of class struggle against imperialism. and silence (or a non position) on the national question is still a political position

      @@hunniebun4454 Alot of western leftists are now trashing anti-colonialism as the reason why socialism had failed to materialize in the west. Its so pathetic what these ppl had turned into.

      @@hunniebun4454 On that note I wonder how many of the social democrats, leftcoms, DSA crowds actually resisted the war on Vietnam?

    They last words I can hear are « it’s a central, central part of the class struggle […] » at which point the sound cuts off inexplicably.

    What in your view is Putin's agenda in Ukraine?

    • @anhumblemessengerofthelawo3858
      @anhumblemessengerofthelawo3858 5 місяців тому

      To keep NATO nukes off his huge border. To stop killing ethnic Russians. Remember the Minsk accords? Yeah. 12 years ago Putin requested protecting of their national security. The west lied, broke promises and were two faced hypocrites. This war never had to happen. 500,000 killed in war bc the West thinks it owns everyone. Putin conducted a textbook example of how to conduct war, save civilians; while he was schooling with education displaced Ukrainian children, Ukraine was selling s-x slaves and body parts. Putin tried to join NATO twice. Can you imagine why his request for protection was denied...?
      The most propagandized war in history. Glory to Russia. The West is evil. They don't care one wit about Ukraine, or those lost. NOT ONE WIT. Sad.
      Peace to those who lost their lives.

    the compatible left and the non-compatible Left is a good concept. / though, i found Marcuse and Zizek to help me to change my own perception and behavior, and certainly my relationship to media and institutions, and increased my awareness of the overall structure of society. So i don't agree that they are hoodwinking potential activists. They got me to read more philosophy. I didnt know that Marcuse said that we shouldnt lose sleep over Vietnam. Wow. I appreciate this critique but yet i don't agree with all of the opinions about the effects of these theorists. I do despise the fake left though. The trendy fake vanity which is rampant and overturning institutions like art museums and natural history museums and any art, really; the wokeism. As for changing the structure of society to transform class exploitation.... it's getting worse every day in the US. You think that's going to change from protests? Like the prison system, for example. People protest, prisoners do hunger strikes.. labor strikes.... and more and more for- profit prisons are built. It's slave labor. Will the real Left emerge? I thought looking back to Marcuse was better than the wokeist posturing and poison of today.
