As a little bit of a tip, for people who want to get these Nano units, the screen is the same size as Nintendo’s Game & Watch units from a while ago, so you can use the same glass screen protectors on them.

It's and interesting option, but I've bought the Atari Micro Player and I'm totally happy with my choice!

Nice review. I share your assessment. It isn't really worth it unless you are simply collecting. I bought the Atari Pocket player Pro based on your video, so thanks. It is a great little handheld. But I think you are right about the pitch. You can change 2nd difficulty switch. When you are in the game, press the B button. And finally about that joystick double tap movement that you showed. It is also in the Pocket Player Pro and it drives me crazy. Thankfully it does not do that in the games. From another GenX grown up, thanks for your great videos.

I don't mind tiny screens, but I prefer the pocket player type versions (as far as actually playing these type of mini arcades in general) The nano would be a shelf collection version for me. I mention "would be" in future tense, because I'm getting closer to possibly finding a house for and my brother, and I hope to finally have enough room to collect items like these eventually. I love GXG dearly, but following you guys the past few years has been an exercise in patience and avoiding fomo, with all these fantastic mini arcades, heh. But you guys give me something to look foward to, so I appreciate the continued education on these type of devices. Always interesting. Have a good weekend, GXG!

I'd recently bought an Atari GSP at my local Meijer and enjoy the variety of games on it, so it's a pass on the Nano Player Pro.

Size always matters with screens to a point. To small make my eyes strain, the bigger handhelds offer a way better experience. Even if you have good vision.

I'm quite familiar with Metal Mech. It was published by Jaleco for the NES. In terms of play length that game is pretty decent in size. The last stage is quite hard though.

I almost got the Atari 50 pocket player pro when I was out of town. The problem was the game selection.
There wasn't enough of the ones I liked to get me to spend the 40 to 50 bucks.
However 🙂 for someone that isn't as picky with Atari 2600 games, the pocket player pro and other versions are great too.

@12:18 That left-to-right asymmetry in how the screen "fades out" (when you tilt the device) is a bizarre feature of _all_ of My Arcade's current generation hardware (including the Pac Man pocket player, Galaga pocket player, etc.). I assume that screen was designed for technical devices, scientific equipment, etc., and to give "blacker blacks" in contrast to a simple text / number / graph readout -that is just what it looks like to me. I mean… it clearly wasn't designed to be a cellphone screen (whereas, at this scale, most are).

Something I found out with the Micro Player is that, for Atari games, the B-button functions as the second difficulty switch. I assume this is the case across the Nano and Pocket pkayers too.

Imagine if they made the Pico for this Atari50 unit!? It would be unplayable, like most of those Pico units. It was a nice idea, good price point, but not effective with playability. The Nano Player isn't worth the $10 difference in price, between the game play, the audio, the visuals, and the bonus games being less. Now a Nano Tetris might work better.

My Arcade should release a Super Breakout/Breakout LCD game with an actual Paddle Controller, using the 2600 versions of these games and the same design as the Atari Super Breakout LCD Prototype from the 1980’s…..I want an actual Microvision-like Super-Breakout/Breakout LCD handheld with a built-in Paddle Controller to come to market, and cost between 30$-55$ CAD……It can be called a Super Breakout Paddle Player Pro……

@@GenXGrownUp I just got a 2023 My Arcade Tetris pico and nano players from some store on eBay. It's weird I have like all 47 My arcades that have come out so far and I have never seen these two. They have different front graphics than the Tetris Pro player that just came out, and the Nano has 200+ games while the Pico has 100+ games. I don't know if these were early prototypes or dealer samples I can't find any info on it. I also ordered a different Space Invaders that the shop was selling that should be here this week.

In my opinion I feel like they add more games because they software they use can hold extra games and coding for those extra games.
By the way did they add Atari PAC Man into any of those?

Screen tearing: it can be invisible for games with a black background and no scrolling (games in which "the camera" remains "fixed", so to speak) but _even within the 2600 library_ there are examples of games that are ruined by screen tearing on this unit (e.g., _Solaris)._ I would just point out that this very youtube channel (GenXGrownUp) has really reviewed _A LOT_ of better alternatives, some of them from five years ago, that were officially licensed in the past; and there are also "grey market" alternatives that are currently being shipped out of China… and apparently GenX is too morally pure to review them… but, alas, I am not. ;-)

Bigger than the Tiny Arcade keychain machines. I don't understand why they don;t have multiple versions of a game. Why not have the 2600, 7800, 5200 and arcade of Asteroids. Why just the 2600? Tired of just seeing 2600 games.

Hey Brother to answer your question about the games in the little portable systems a lot of those were put on smaller files to fit the Nano I'm sure there's a way now you can hack the system but you have to look at the things you want to put on there and the files make sure they fit the deal for me though I would never play nothing that small because I think I would break it in the first try the buttons are way too small

SIZE MATTERS: unlike truly "pocketable" devices, these _My Arcade_ devices have smaller screens, but *aren't actually more portable.* You really are better off with a "grey market" device like the Trimui Smart (for Atari 2600, specifically, and more broadly as well).

"Swordquest, these are worthless." - Fixed that for you.
While i think these little units are cute and it's great that they're introducing modern audiences to the Atari 2600, I can't help noticing that probably half the game list is shovelware. Honestly, the Swordquest games are garbage. They're not even games in the traditional sense, they're just digital clue packages for a long-forgotten contest. And then stuff like Basic Math? Who in their right mind would actually play that? They often leave off some of the best Atari games, and rarely include third party games from Activision, Imagic, Parker Brothers, etc.
