Most religious and even many non-religious people believe that a person has a soul, some kind of immaterial entity that forms our self-awareness and individuality.
They are all wrong though. A living person IS a soul. The idea that ppl have a soul trapped in their physical body is pagan Gnosticism. The part of us that forms our self awareness and individuality is the essence in our minds that the Bible refers to as "the spirit in man". Our ability to make decisions, reason, feel emotions, etc. comes from having that essence in us. The soul is physical matter that can(and will) eventually die.
