ZFG stated input lag comparisons for Ocarina of Time versions, derived from a seemingly reputable source: Switch 2.0 (current): ~200 milliseconds Wii VC: ~150 milliseconds N64: ~100 milliseconds
@@user-wl2xl5hm7k there is a highlight video in Zfg's channel titled "Messing Around with the Fps in OoT" where you can see him using some features in GZ, I believe, and a brief explanation on how to manipulate the fps in that hack. moot statement assuming nintendo knew the issues if released prematurely just to make some money up front, and had the fixes in their pocket down the road anyway
@@juicemanvon9859 Game devs always know of ALL existing game issues because that is the job of their Q&A. NINTENTO just wanted to quickly release a cash grab with nostalgia written on it and fix it "maybe later".
Honestly it may seem small but for me my biggest issue they still haven’t fixed and that’s an option to turn off the gray NSO border. For me it really ruins the immersion of the games. Especially when comparing Mario 64 in the 3D all stars collection vs it in the NSO app
I agree completely that this should be an option, however I really love this border personally, especially when the actual game is quite dark or black, like in certain NES games (i.e. Mother), it somehow makes it look more 'native' than if it was completely black border.
I agree, I've been playing 3d all stars on my OLED and it's miles better for immersion. Sunshine is so pretty on the OLED! The dotted gradient border on NSO really bugs me.
Honestly, I didn't know why these games (NES and SNES included) felt shallower than their OG counterparts, but now that you mention it, it's totally gotta be the border. We've asked for lots already, but this should totally be a thing!
Good updates on here, I'm just hoping they'll eventually allow an option to clear the screen of extra icons, like the profile icon in the corner or the connection status icon while playing online.
Like those bizarre screen borders on the left and right… this is something so easy to fix, I have to wonder if Nintendo are deliberately not fixing that… for example so they can identify NSO content in UA-cam videos easily for the the purpose of copyright strikes?
We should be thankful that the water texture was fixed at all, let alone after only two updates. What's the bet these hectic fanboiis demand something absurd like widescreen in these 40yo games? Pfft, it's like they think Miyamoto is some kind of crazy hackerman githubbing it up in the Ecuadorian embassy or something.. absurd and ridiculous!! .. nah this is pretty cool. Cheers MVG 🥂
NSO’s emulation is still well behind emulators from a decade ago. And since you can’t own any of the games, that’s really bad. It has fewer games than the Wii and they still run worse. Plus you could actually buy the games on Wii
@@Nay089 You can buy any game on PS+. You can buy any game on GamePass, at a discount if you’re a subscriber. You can’t buy a single first party NES, SNES, or Nintendo 64 game on Switch. It’s locked to the garbage service. Try again shill.
@@noobahoi no, I mean on the PS Store if you buy a game, you own it. That game can either be given out as a free PS+ game, or you can buy it on the PlayStation storefront. You can’t do that with NSO games. Plus, physical is no guarantee of ownership either. It’s still a license to play the game as per TOS. Console manufacturers can remotely brick your console if they want and your physical game won’t play. So anyone who thinks physical is bulletproof, it isn’t.
I’m very happy that Nintendo is fixing this stuff. Personally I’m always going to prefer playing on original hardware, but regardless it’s nice that it’s starting to get more accurate to the original. Also I’m still kinda mad that people were calling our valid criticisms “childish” like c’mon, at the end of the day it’s about getting more people to play these games, and if they’re playing inferior versions they’re obviously not going to enjoy it, but yea, much better now
Goldeneye has very complicated copyright issues, which is why we haven't seen a re-release or proper remaster to date (except the leaked Xbox 360 version, but there was no official release of it, so I'm not counting it). I don't see this situation changing anytime soon, unfortunately. Goldeneye was a staple of 90s multiplayer videogames.
Nintendo recently paid the German government to delist Goldeneye 64 from their list of banned games. There are also screenshots of Xbox achievements for Goldeneye 64. The copyright issues have likely been resolved and there is sufficient evidence that we’ll see Goldeneye on Xbox and maybe the Switch.
@@JTSuter That just means Nintendo and Microsoft came to an agreement. EON, MGM and potentially IO Interactive, depending on their contract, have to agree to the rerelease as well.
It’s good that they’re fixing it, but I really wish they would add a purchase option. Subscription model is great as an option, but not if it’s the only way to access something.
Wish they did too but the industry is basically trying to kill game ownership alltogether so I don't expect they ever will. Sad to see what we lost since 2006...
Damn, that's high praise indeed if this update is enough to earn MVG's recommendation! I was thinking I might upgrade if the service ever reached parity with previous emulation offerings by Nintendo, and it seems like that time may be coming after all.
I still think though it's pretty scummy that Nintendo won't carry over purchases you made on an old console to the Switch. Not just that, you can't buy these games outright on the Switch, but have to rent them instead. So what, I have to pay $5 a month to get what I could have gotten for free with already existing community emulators? Nintendo can cry and scream and kick and try to ignore it, but many of these N64 games are over 20 YEARS OLD now. Were these games adhering to patent law expiration dates, the copyright would have expired on them and they should be going into public domain. This is bullshit, and regardless of the emulation quality, the Expansion Pack service is NOT worth it, and will never be worth it without at very least an option to buy these games outright AND HAVE THEM CARRY ACROSS TO FUTURE NINTENDO CONSOLES. That is the only way in my eyes that Nintendo asking for money for these old-ass games would be at least somewhat justified.
@Code Turtle I imagine that you're someone who doesn't find value in the DLC that's included 'at no cost'. I'm one of those people, for now anyway (I don't play either of the games that have DLC that's included in the Expansion Pack). If you don't mind me asking, what would you consider to be reasonable?
Still doesn't change the fact that there is no virtual console and all the content is being incredibly overcharged and drip fed compared to previous consoles...
With how much they were charging, it should have been like this in the first place. It was utterly unacceptable to release it the way they did. They probably ruined a lot of people's first experience with OOT.
I'll still not use Nintendo's modern emulators, this is only scratching the surface compared to the many more advantages that fan-made emulators have, they are still light-years ahead in all fields. Nintendo really needs to up their game if they are charging this much for subpar emulators in comparison to ones I can get for free, and the amount of games they are drip-feeding onto the service.
I see Goldeneye as a separate remaster. There seems to have been so much done to get it to gamers to put in on NSO. It also seems that it could be an XBOX / Switch release.
it only took a while to get the games in a semi tolerable state when it should have been delayed instead of releasing in its past state. you know a service is in bad hands when it takes this long for not terrible emulation before majoras mask was even factored in
A retro collection on physical cartridge for each virtual system when the service reaches it's final state on Switch would be a really nice thing (very little shot at this happening, but it would be neat nevertheless).
They had the opportunity to give us a physical cartridge for the first Fire Emblem on NES for the switch and just gave us a download code so I don't have that much faith, though I will remain cautiously optimistic.
I would hope that NSO online continues onto the next console release. The Wii didn't have an account system so when the Wii U introduced one I thought that this may mean that I could continue playing purchased Virtual Console games on all future consoles. That turned out to be a disappointment.
I’ve noticed there are still a lot of unfiltered textures in Mario Kart. Maybe that is accurate to the original and the lower resolution hid it, but I’d have thought I’d have noticed it after all the years I’ve been playing it.
If you're playing with CRTs back then, yes those TVs have "filtering" of sorts, through scanlines IIRC. Someone more knowledgeable could actually explain (or correct me if I'm wrong).
@@ZX3000GT1 the N64 actually had an anti-aliasing filter built into the hardware itself, in addition to the natural scanline/CRT glow "filtering" you'd get from a tube monitor. because the N64 Online app lacks any sort of image filters, there's no way to play the games as originally visually presented on N64. the DOOM 64 remaster actually has an optional blur filter that mimics the N64's hardware antialiasing.
@@ZX3000GT1 I don't know that it's proper "AA" by name but it does have some kind of hardware level filtering that Nintendo's own emulator doesn't compensate for.
I'm glad to see they're fixing emulation issues. However, this is not an emulation package, it's a perk to an online package, and an online package with no lobby or invite system is an online package that has no business sitting behind a paywall.
Considering the Expansion Pack is not a "perk" to NSO, but rather is an Add-On TO that online package that more than doubles the total cost, it's probably good they're prioritizing issues with the emulation, but you are right that the lack of a party system/on system voice chat is pretty sad in 2022. Unfortunately, in that case, I think the lack of those things was a calculated move to reduce background CPU/memory demands further (we've already seen games like Doom Eternal that disable the ability to record videos etc. to free up more memory/CPU time) - perhaps the next model of Switch will have enough spare CPU power and memory to run games AND have a decent online system.
@@yellowblanka6058 I don't believe the hardware excuse for a second. Even setting aside system level solutions, Nintendo used to do a better job of handling those things game-by-game than they do now. Mario Kart DS, if you were already playing online, would alert you if a friend was looking for a match. Neither MK8 Deluxe nor Super Smash Bros. Ultimate do anything of the sort. Sure, Nintendo's always been behind the curve in online features, but the Switch has noticably regressed even by their own standards.
Nintendo's online service is absolute crap. Don't say "I can recommend this over the Wii's version." when that was released pretty much bug free. Imagine paying extra for a service and getting this pile of shit. At least Sony and Microsoft offer previous 8th generation and what is Nintendo on again? They're releasing 5th generation games that still don't function correctly. That's pathetic. Saying anything like they're listening to feedback is so stupid, they're not. They're doing it because they look like absolute clowns. This is endemic of how Nintendo work. There has been a gamecube emulator for years and even a switch one lol... Nintendo are so far behind technology wise it's embarrassing. Wake me up when they finally emulate 6th generation stuff on switch, then maybe their online service will actually be worth something until then their extended service can kiss my arse. I love your work, MVG and understand you want to give this a positive spin... but Nintendo isn't your friend. So maybe stop praising them so much for doing what should be considered the bare minimum amount of effort and respect for their consumers.
Nintendo then: if we're making the gba backwards compatible with Gameboy/GBC, we need to test every game to make sure people aren't disappointed by it Nintendo now: we want more money and people want the same variety of retro systems from the last console, so let's grab like 10 or so of our most popular N64 games, an emulator, and announce it tomorrow
My thought is that Nintendo are the worst, and especially when they are on top like they are now with record Switch sales and whatnot. There is really no excuse to (re-re-re-)release 20+ years old games in this state, especially since they are all emulated perfectly on so many other platforms (including Nintendo's own) and have been for many years, and for free.
Hearing they've supported the product and taken to this point is excellent, and for the first time makes me start to consider signing up... till I recall the ridiculous price of admission. Maybe another time. Probably not. Thanks for the great coverage.
Nintendo used to be one of the last companies that released complete products, that even felt good to have on a cart without any updates at all. Sad to see them going down the same route as everyone else, releasing broken products and fixing it later.
There is a comment here with lots of thumbs up defending game companies that release buggy and defective games. I feel like customers are the part of the problem lol.
They need to fix other major issues such as lack of controller pack support the N64 had for games like Winback, controller remapping at the per game level, and poor online play. While I'm glad the fog in games have been fixed and save glitches gone, there are still plenty of other visual glitches that need fixing like in Star Fox with fire effects and Ocarina of Time Ruppee visual glow. Still not worth the premium service price for me
It's good they're listening to feedback, but it's still awful that there isn't a 1 month or 3 month option for this subscription. I'm not paying an extra $30 for a service I won't use the whole year.
That's probably due to resolution. Wii VC only goes up to 480p, and N64 games are scaled accordingly. The Switch goes up to 1080p, and the N64 games, again, scale accordingly. The closer to 320x240 resolution, the better N64 effects will look.
Good video BUT NSO will ALWAYS be inferior to VC because VC = own and NSO = rent. WHEN, not IF, NSO shuts down for Switch say buh-bye to all those games.
The Wii had 400 games on Virtual Console that ran better and were available for purchase five years after launch. The Switch has like 125ish games that run worse and are online only rentals five years after launch.
It didn't take Nintendo 5 years, it took them a couple months to match N64 emulation. The heck are you talking about? N64 just released for the Switch in December 2021, not 2017!!
Bought the expansion yesterday due to all the fixes. Any recommendations for a controller with proper mapping (other than the official NSO N64 controller)?
@@TBrizzle01 I personally dont know, but check out reddit to see if someone has asked a similar question. I usually find the answers to all sorts of tech-related questions in there.
If Nintendo added old game expansion passes like Fire Emblem and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to the Expansion Pack it *might* be worth it. Until then it's still too expensive!
I'm sorry to disagree with you but, starting to pay monthly or yearly for any DLC is bullshit. Not only these are already content that will go with the end of your subscription (so why not just buy the thing in the first place) but it isn't an argument in favor of a subscription. Imagine if they set up a trend with this and Sony and Microsoft starts to also put their dlc's in a subscription service.
@@atomickid it would be an issue if it was the only option but having hundreds of bucks worth of dlc for 50 is pretty nice. The biggest issue is that you need to have the subscription active. I definitely prefer getting the dlc outright but I dont mind the option as an optional choice.
Love how all the people who claimed they weren't real issues and didn't need to be fixed, or that it was impossible for Nintendo to fix it because of the Switch hardware (there were many) will just disappear now.
If no one had complained they wouldn't have fixed a thing, and it would still cost $50/year for broken, unplayable messes they can take away at any moment. Meanwhile RetroArch is on Steam now with free cloud saves.
Ocarina of Time will ALWAYS be broken if you pay money for it. Unless you get it for free, you're missing the legendary Fire Temple music, and the crescent moon on the mirror shield. What does Ganon think of Nintendo censorship? It makes him puke green.
not related to the video, but I was wondering if you knew about the "frankenstein mod" that replaces old 90nm RSXs on backwards compatible PS3s with more reliable 65 or 40nm RSXs. psx-place has a big thread about it.
This is the first time I've heard about this. If there's a place I can get this done, I don't mind getting a BC PS3, then send both that and my own slim PS3 to get a "best of both worlds" PS3.
@@ZX3000GT1 it's still being experimented (and documented) but there are confirmed reports of working "Frankenstein units" on Game Console Repair Legion on facebook. it's safe to say that it still isn't super popular and only a handful of people on Earth have done this, but it's early to say anything and as soon as the thing takes off it'll be plenty of shops (hopefully) offering this option. I bet it's not going to be cheap since the whole process implies patching the syscon, soldering a few resistors in the right places, replacing the RSX and a few other bits and bobs, depending on the type of mod.
Do we know they're actually listening to player feedback, or are these fixes coincidental? I want to believe, but Nintendo really has lost my trust over the last few years.
it could very well be that they knew all along how the state of the emulation was and they still went with it with the idea of releasing post-release patches to make it work the way it should tbh
The input delay with nes/snes online is still atrocious. I feel better playing from my PC using Steam Remote Play. The price is still way higher than it should. I strongly disagree. They are not listening to their fans
basically in order to read your inputs the system has to do some work, but when it has to emulate anothrr systems hardware at the same time it increases the amount of work it has to do and makes your inputs come out slightly slower
What about the joystick sensitivity issue where it's too sensitive with small movements? Has that been fixed? It makes aiming in games such as OoT a big pain.
I was using the NSO N64 controller on my real N64 through the Intecgaming BT N64 adapter and I noticed the sensitivity. I don't know if something like that can be fixed by just a firmware update since it seems like a potentiometer issue. That's why the Gamecube styled N64 joystick replacements were too sensitive. Instead of reading, say, 85-95 steps max like the OEM N64 joysticks, the modern gaming potentiometer reads 125 max, skipping steps along the way to reach the maximum. To fix that would require direct editing of potentiometer code, and changing how it reads joystick movement for N64 games. I guess it could be fixed through firmware by compensating for the sensitivity.
Glad they are working on it but I need options. Scanlines optiions, button mapping options, more legacy content and my big one option to buy the legacy games.
Listened to our feedback and general concern? Mhhhh I must have missed that I can finally deactivate the awful borders and emblems. ;D Absolute insane that they have an OLED system and this isn't possible.
They should fix the controller mapping, for example, for Pro Controllers: Left Stick = Analog Stick, Right Stick = C-Stick, D-Pad = D-Pad, ZR = Z, A = A, B = B, L = L, R = R, and + = Start.
Thats how I feel about this. I still think with the way they're doing this the amount of games/ systems on offer is way too slim compared to Virtual Console. This shouldn't even be something difficult. Virtual Console games used to be rolled out way too slowly as well, but at least you had a variety to begin with with that.
indeed, is the same company that people love to quote how they champion delays in the products for maximum quality and yet they released an expensive and buggy emulator
@@Cheesehead302 We've had a game a month added, sometimes 2. Nintendo's actually outpacing themselves. Remember Wii VC only had 20 or so N64 games. Wii U had less than the Wii. Switch will probably have double that by the middle of next year.
@@ViktorKruger99 There's a definite bias when it comes to Nintendo. There's a narrative that nintendo does dumb stuff but doesn't skimp out on quality releases, I subscribed to it for a while but it's been waning more and more when they release unfinished stuff like this and the Mario Sports titles. It's completely reasonable to argue that gamecube iterations of some of these properties have more content for your buck. The sixty dollars for games thar basically just have 2 or 3 basic head to head modes is just ridiculous. A bit of a tangent, but I feel like they're starting to get away with releasing stuff with less and less content just because their quality has always been renowned by people.
That's cool, what if we stopped giving money to companies for unfinished products? I know we'd have less to make videos about, but maybe there's a middleground we can reach where the odds of a product being finished on release isn't akin to tossing a coin. It's rocket science, I know :D
It’s very nice to see that. I was already considering to upgrade my NSO subscription because for the 12 first months it will be cheaper than the MK8 expansion that I want anyway. The N64 not only being thrown to the customers but also being maintained is a great selling point. (Well and I guess NSO+E will get more expansion packs in the future after it already got MK8 and AC.)
It really should've been like this to begin with. But I'm glad they at least fixed it after the fact. Still, you can't buy these games which would really bother me as a customer... also, one still can't remap the controller however they want.
As long as I'm unable to freely map my controller buttons, Nintendo's emulation is just not going to cut it, especially not for what they are charging.
ya exactly. I'm just like "Yippee? i guess, should i really be excited or care about this?", i really just don't care at all cause there still selling this for 50$.
Honestly after this patch there are only about 3 things I want to be fixed in future updates for OOT 1.)Fixed blue warp textures after bosses. 2.) at most 10 frames of input lag. 3.) audio fixes after pausing because sometimes after you close the pause screen you can hear bleeps and higher pitched noises of the music. It’s great Nintendo is updating the service to be of acceptable quality. Better late than never! I just fear they’ll get complacent once people start praising the NSO expansion pack.
Yes but more than likely there will be a switch 2 so you won't have to worry about that because the eshop and switch online will carry over to the switch 2 avoiding this issue entirely
it's even worse because it's renting games service situation. if after 4 years you paid $50 every year for a total of $200 to access 20+ year old n64 games, you lose access to games you spent 200 dollars on.
@@sygos In that case, I'm kinda surprised MVG is making such a big deal about it. Anybody with a brain hates games as a service. @Flaming Sword: Has Nintendo announced they are going to do that? Otherwise, what in their long history makes you think they would ever do that?
Here's the thing, the NSO is separate from the Switch eShop, so when the Switch eShop closes, you won't lose your N64 games if you're still signed up for the NSO. It'll just carry over to Nintendo's next console. What Nintendo is doing with the NSO retro emulators and games is futureproofing them to work on any future Nintendo consoles without having to make you buy them again and redoing the porting process from scratch. So as long as you keep paying for the service, no, you won't lose your N64/SNES/SEGA/NES games.
4:38 this is NOT full 480p captured quality. it's rather 480i or a general blurred capture. with a MayFlash HDMI adapter and the mClassic upscaler, you get a super good image out of the Wii 480p N64 emulation.
Glad to see the NSO N64 Expanison conclude the open beta phase and be ready for release! Jokes aside, I think these minor visual bugs are only the top of the iceberg of problems with the N64 expansion. The visual bugs are fun to clown on, but usually they don't matter that much. Many of the problems many people have with the service comes down to its core design. You pay an insane amount of money every year to rent virtual copies of a few hand-picked games. There's no option to use your own ROMs, no fan-mods, no high-res textures, no cheats, no remapping controls (outside of system settings), etc. While it's good Nintendo is fixing the more egregious visual bugs and (slightly) fixing the ridiculous amount of input delay, these should never have been issues in the first place. Even if the emulation is completely perfect, which it will never be, I think it's not worth it at all.
I really appreciate the coverage on this, it helps people like me make an informed decision to purchase the service and without videos like this, I would have remained hesitant to do so. Keep up the great quality content MVG.
I think I'm one of the only few who liked not seeing fog in some places. For example, I thought it was cool how you could see the great deku tree off in the distance from kokiri forest.
Did they fix online play? Once online play lag is fixed and or significantly reduced for all their games, not just N64 emulation, I will consider it. For now it's still unacceptable.
The other day I beat Mario Kart 64 and because it runs, I guess more consistently, it didn't slow down or lag at all during the credits like it always did so the music, because it's timed to the scenes being shown, was not at the correct point when it got to the end of the cutscene. I want to know if that works properly now Update: just checked, it's still off
Great to hear many of the most important issues have been fixed. That still leaves ghost data and memory pack bugs still to fix but maybe someday they’ll get to that.
It's still got input lag, and you still can't keep the games without a live subscription service, doesn't matter how much effort is put in, a rental is still a rental, so it's still worthless to me. They really should introduce a 'buy to own' feature for games here.
Nintendo's already burnt me on this service. Luckily I didn't get it so I didn't have to deal with any of these issues that were fixed. There's still some bugs in the N64 stuff though and Nintendo taking so long to fix it burnt me on it so I refuse to get it. I'm trying to get my hands on a Wii U so I can buy these games cause I ain't spending $50 a year for broken games I can already play on something else that they aren't broken on.
Glad everyone spoke out about this. The goal as always is to get the best experience you can for the money, especially a monthly subscription. These were all realistic criticisms & I’m glad they’ve been improved. Money aside, even though this is a subscription, I hope Nintendo realizes the importance of preserving the style & feel of these games.
Did Nintendo say why we cant buy the old console games directly? And why is it so hard for the developers/company of these old games/consoles to program good emulators?
Because for each console Nintendo releases, Nintendo would have to go back from 400 retro games to 0 again and again, having to redo the work to port the emulators and games they worked tirelessly on the previous console generations to re-port it to the newest one. That also means for each new Nintendo console, we'd have to buy and re-buy the same games again and again and again. I don't want that, and Nintendo doesn't want that. What Nintendo's doing is futureproofing their hard work so when a new Nintendo console comes out, they don't have to redo the porting process, AND we won't have to pay for the same games we bought already AGAIN! They just have to make the current NSO service we're already paying for available to the new and future consoles and we can continue to have access to all the games Nintendo has already ported to the NSO, +more. This is actually a very pro-consumer move by Nintendo that benefits us just as much as it benefits them.
Its the 25 year anniversary of Goldeneye. Microsoft and Nintendo have renewed licenses. I would bet on a release on NSO and Xbox GamePass this year if its ever going to happen. E3 shadow drop maybe?

ZFG stated input lag comparisons for Ocarina of Time versions, derived from a seemingly reputable source:
Switch 2.0 (current): ~200 milliseconds
Wii VC: ~150 milliseconds
N64: ~100 milliseconds
Majora’s Mask on Switch also is ~200 milliseconds
We know OoT runs at 20fps (1sec/20 = 50ms), so to match VC they still have to improve the lag by 1 frame, right?
@@plumbummusic2051 Yup, but 2 frames to get to the original N64 version
@@plumbummusic2051 That’s if it’s true that OOT runs at 20 frames per second. I don’t personally know the rate it runs at, but that seems correct
@@user-wl2xl5hm7k there is a highlight video in Zfg's channel titled "Messing Around with the Fps in OoT" where you can see him using some features in GZ, I believe, and a brief explanation on how to manipulate the fps in that hack.
Also burn-in for some TV owners!!
Also burn-in for some TV owners!!

NSO’s emulation is still well behind emulators from a decade ago. And since you can’t own any of the games, that’s really bad. It has fewer games than the Wii and they still run worse. Plus you could actually buy the games on Wii

@@noobahoi no, I mean on the PS Store if you buy a game, you own it. That game can either be given out as a free PS+ game, or you can buy it on the PlayStation storefront. You can’t do that with NSO games.

@Code Turtle I imagine that you're someone who doesn't find value in the DLC that's included 'at no cost'. it only took a while to get the games in a semi tolerable state when it should have been delayed instead of releasing in its past state. you know a service is in bad hands when it takes this long for not terrible emulation before majoras mask was even factored in
A retro collection on physical cartridge for each virtual system when the service reaches it's final state on Switch would be a really nice thing (very little shot at this happening, but it would be neat nevertheless).
Will never happen. Nintendo cant even give us a decent port of Mario 64.
They had the opportunity to give us a physical cartridge for the first Fire Emblem on NES for the switch and just gave us a download code so I don't have that much faith, though I will remain cautiously optimistic.
@@calebb7012 Oh yeah, I agree the odds are near zero, more of a ponder about the possibilities that aren't made.
I would hope that NSO online continues onto the next console release.
The Wii didn't have an account system so when the Wii U introduced one I thought that this may mean that I could continue playing purchased Virtual Console games on all future consoles. That turned out to be a disappointment.
They also added lag to Majora’s Mask’s ending cutscene, making it more accurate to the N64 original even more so than the Wii VC.
Now, if only Nintendo would listen to the feedback on the pricing. Or the feedback on the WiiU/3DS eShops closing. Or Joy-con drift...

There's still no custom button mapping for the joycons on N64 NSO?
@@ShadowEl I remember N64 has 3 point bilinear filtering, but never knew it had any kind of AA. Interesting.
@@ZX3000GT1 I don't know that it's proper "AA" by name but it does have some kind of hardware level filtering that Nintendo's own emulator doesn't compensate for.
It was a very rudimentary implementation of AA. It was basically like a blur filter that helped hide any jaggies and blend textures.
Nintendo now: we want more money and people want the same variety of retro systems from the last console, so let's grab like 10 or so of our most popular N64 games, an emulator, and announce it tomorrow

The fog seems to look a bit better on VC to be honest, especially with the decu tree
Do you have any links to places to learn more? No doubting you whatsoever, just curious how things compare overall to the Wii VC. Thanks.

The Wii VC’s emulation quality remains higher still, so there’s that.

Only Doug Bowser is likely to have understood according to Rich of ReviewTechUSA.
The input delay with nes/snes online is still atrocious. I feel better playing from my PC using Steam Remote Play. The price is still way higher than it should.
I strongly disagree. They are not listening to their fans
If anyone have a pc emulation is the way it's free and non laggy
Can somebody explain to me why emulation will always have input lag? Is it possible for the input lag to be so low as to not be discernible?
basically in order to read your inputs the system has to do some work, but when it has to emulate anothrr systems hardware at the same time it increases the amount of work it has to do and makes your inputs come out slightly slower
What about the joystick sensitivity issue where it's too sensitive with small movements? Has that been fixed? It makes aiming in games such as OoT a big pain.
I don't think so. When I was trying Majora's Mask I kept overrunning the deku flowers trying to hit the middle to dive in.
Wait Nintendo actually fixing their errors? What are we back to OoT 3D? Back to 2011?
Glad they are working on it but I need options. Scanlines optiions, button mapping options, more legacy content and my big one option to buy the legacy games.
Lack of a CRT option for N64 is really jarring to me. The N64 generation was the last to have 320x240 CRT scanline resolution for video games.
Listened to our feedback and general concern? Mhhhh I must have missed that I can finally deactivate the awful borders and emblems. ;D
Absolute insane that they have an OLED system and this isn't possible.
Still not worth what they're asking.
They should fix the controller mapping, for example, for Pro Controllers: Left Stick = Analog Stick, Right Stick = C-Stick, D-Pad = D-Pad, ZR = Z, A = A, B = B, L = L, R = R, and + = Start.
Nintendo doesn't deserve even an ounce of praise. This shit never should have been so busted in the first place.
Thats how I feel about this. I still think with the way they're doing this the amount of games/ systems on offer is way too slim compared to Virtual Console. This shouldn't even be something difficult. Virtual Console games used to be rolled out way too slowly as well, but at least you had a variety to begin with with that.

It's completely reasonable to argue that gamecube iterations of some of these properties have more content for your buck.

Honestly after this patch there are only about 3 things I want to be fixed in future updates for OOT
1.)Fixed blue warp textures after bosses.
Question: Is this a "games as a service" situation? When the switch store closes, are all the n64 games you play on your Switch gone?
Yup
What is ‘Ocariner Of Time’ ?
This happened in part because of you and your community. Thanks!
Glad to see Nintendo listening to the fans. Fog rendering being broken was still very strange.
Well if Nintendo has it working this well the home brew emulation must be great
It is.
I want to know if that works properly now
Update:
just checked, it's still off
have you any videos on coding the ports you talk about throughout your videos?
This is the update I’ve been looking for. I’ll be picking up the expansion pack now that it’s at an acceptable state.
Glad they're listening to the feedback
Still can't remove the border icon, text and pattern? That alone makes this a total non-starter for me.
Same here. On an oled switch and oled tv its can cause a bit of burn in. Plus it just looks plain ugly.
I agree I hope they remove it at some point.
I'll pick the NSO expansion as soon as they get Goldeneye, not a second sooner.
What about Perfect Dark? I doubt they can still get the rights to James Bond
Thanks for the update, glad to see Nintendo listened to the gaming community rather than just shrugging it off.
Great to hear many of the most important issues have been fixed. That still leaves ghost data and memory pack bugs still to fix but maybe someday they’ll get to that.
There's still just one issue... The fact that the rather subpar paid online play is behind this.
Yeah, I still don't know if it's worth $50 a year.
or 30 if you already pay for the online. (or if you play tetris 99 or pac map 99, the 20 part of the deal is for this too.)
It's still got input lag, and you still can't keep the games without a live subscription service, doesn't matter how much effort is put in, a rental is still a rental, so it's still worthless to me.
They really should introduce a 'buy to own' feature for games here.
No
Love your videos! Where did you start learning about computer graphics basics?
Nintendo's already burnt me on this service. Luckily I didn't get it so I didn't have to deal with any of these issues that were fixed. There's still some bugs in the N64 stuff though and Nintendo taking so long to fix it burnt me on it so I refuse to get it. I'm trying to get my hands on a Wii U so I can buy these games cause I ain't spending $50 a year for broken games I can already play on something else that they aren't broken on.
if GoldenEye, and Mario Party1/2 or 3 come to NSO, ill have to cop it.
MP1 will never be released. Golden Eye is iffy because it's licensed.
Perfect Dark on the other hand..
Does the fixes effect your save states?
Did Nintendo say why we cant buy the old console games directly? And why is it so hard for the developers/company of these old games/consoles to program good emulators?
In case of the Nintendo 64, the framebuffer alone is a nightmare to deal with.
because they want to maximize profit and minimize customer value. "you will own nothing and you will be happy" is nintendo's mentality
The day they add Diddy Kong Racing, Iggy's Reckin Balls, and Blitz 2000 is the day I _might_ finally buy into the NSO expansion pack.
Its the 25 year anniversary of Goldeneye. Microsoft and Nintendo have renewed licenses. I would bet on a release on NSO and Xbox GamePass this year if its ever going to happen. E3 shadow drop maybe?
Why does seems everytime he says 'Ocarineroftime'? Great content as always! :)
Because he has an accent...
This is really good news I just recently added the service and this definitely gives me high hopes for what's to come.
It's still subscription-based and that is still completely terrible.
