Sorry for the long intro, but it's worth listening to. :) Once more, this is not my original pattern but is my interpretation (literally, since the original was in a different language!) of the Pannband med blommor project found on the Järbo Garn website. This project is under the section Virkmillans pannband and was written by a blogger named Camila. Please look at the sites above for the original pattern, and stop by Camila's blog!
Now, let's cover a few extra things I didn't mention in the video! First, the circumference of the blue headband I crocheted in the video is roughly 20 inches (un-stretched), and the width of the headband is approximately 2 inches. As I mention in the video, I do have a smaller head, so attach extra flower motifs for additional length. Another suggestion is to play around with the weight of crochet thread. While the tutorial uses size 10 crochet thread for better visibility and ease when crocheting, a lighter thread can also create nice results. I used a thinner thread for the cream headbands shown (sorry, they were "hand-me-down" skeins, so i don't have packaging to know the specific size), creating a more drape-y fabric; the thicker thread makes a stiffer headband. Lastly, the crochet thread thickness could impact length, so keep that in mind if you use a different crochet thread than shown in the tutorial. Hi, just a suggestion, I used crab stitch (reverse sc) for the final sc around. Guves a nice groovy look. Although it didn't work so well for the lattice parts (I just did 5 normal sc there, then turned my work & crab stitched the sc's on main part) ❣️

Thanks so much for commenting! Those UK vs US terms sure make things confusing. So, let's clear up what materials I'm using!
I used Red Heart's Classic Crochet Thread size 10 in the color Peacock. It's 100% mercerized cotton, and although I couldn't find out for sure, I would guess it is a 3-ply yarn based on comparable products. As far as the hook goes, I don't actually know the exact size myself! The hook I used is from my great-grandmother, and it seems crochet hooks were far less standardized in size back then. Currently, Boye calls size 1 and size B crochet hooks the same, both measuring 2.25 mm. However, the size 1 hook I used in the video is definitely not as big as my size B 2.25mm hook! My best guess is to use a hook in the 1.9mm to 2.1mm range. Fortunately, because this is a fine (as in small) project, I would think it would be fairly forgiving if you aren't using exactly the same hook size as I show in the video.
I hope this helps! You aren't the first person to ask me about hook size because of UK/US terminology, so going forward in my videos I'll try to be more specific when covering what size hook I use. Happy Crafting!
@@CraftersAutonomous OK thank you. Yes that seems like a 2-ply yarn, a similar one in uk would be Scheepjes Sugar Rush. I'd agree, a hook size between 1.9mm to 2.25 will roughly do. 🌼💗🌼
PS. I love the French 💓 accent & language. I find it so romantic & beautiful, It is like music to ears! ☺️ But I really don't like Swedish or the any Scandinavian languages, they sound so mechanical, I don't think they're the sa'e at all 😉 but if you live in Europe, you hear so many accents that you soon distinguish between them

I must be doing something wrong... My flowers got stitched together like if it is one. They look like they are on top of eachother or like closed together. The part when we connect, when I am facing it the wring way, how do I begin crocheting on the other flower?

Very nice. The cream one you have looks like it started off with a center of sc around before you started making the petals? I'm only halfway thru your video, so sorry if you already explained that.
Yes, the cream one has a round of sc before the petals! I made an error when filming that I didn't catch until I was editing the video. I'm not sure if the video has a section where I explain the step I left out, but all you need to do is a round containing 1 sc for every petal and then work each petal into a sc. Personally, I like the look best when I do the sc round first, but as the blue one shows the pattern still works if the sc round is missed (like I did lol).
I just came across this pattern and I love it and want to make some for a craft fair! I noticed the different centers between the blue and cream ones as well, and I'm so glad you wrote what to do in the comment here! I had already started one with the blue version so I'll just finish that and then do my next one with the more defined center.

Glad you enjoyed this video! I just went to translate.google.com and copied the text into the first box on the left. I selected "detect language" for the left box and translate to English for the second box. It wasn't a perfect translation by any means, but it was close enough that I was able to figure out the pattern using the translation and looking at the pictures.

I haven't personally used any books that are all about Aunt Lydia's thread, but a quick Google search found a couple of booklets that looked interesting!
I just got this egyptian cotton for Christmas. Its 5 grams per ball. It doesn't say size but I'm assuming its an 8 lol. Do you think I can get 1 headband out of a ball?
So I can usually tell how much yarn I'll use if I look at a ball of yarn, but I'm usually pretty bad at estimating how much yarn it takes to finish a project based on yardage or weight lol So off the top of my head I'm not sure if 5 grams would be enough for one headband.
If it were me, what I would do is make one motif and see how much of the yarn it used. Then, if I had at least 6 times as much thread left (5 times for the other flower motifs, and then that 6th time would be the amount for the border), then I would start the project and hope I had enough to complete it. 😝 Sorry I don't have a better answer than that! I hope whatever you decide to make with your thread goes well for you! 💚

Everyone is loving your video as I am but can’t figure attaching 2nd motif. Please advise
Sorry about that! Let me see if I can explain it in writing. Maybe between this and the video, you'll be able to get the hang of it.
First is to feel comfortable making the first motif. Then with the second motif, it's almost the exact same thing, but we pause halfway through the corners to attach the motif to the 1st one. So for the 2nd motif, crochet it the same way as the first motif, until you get to the corner. This time, chain 3, attach to the corner of the 1st motif, and then ch 3.
To attach, insert the hook through the big empty loop created by the ch 6 space on the corner of motif #1. Then, work a single crochet by yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Now that it's attached, work the next 3 chains to finish the first corner.
This is the process that is used to attach to the middle of the side of the first motif, and then attach to the second corner of the first motif. Once the two corners are attached, the 2nd motif is finished the exact same way we finished the first motif.
Not sure if this explains it any better, but I hope you're able to get it figured out so you can make this project! Thanks for watching.

Since the pattern is not mine, I'm not able to reproduce the written pattern for copyright reasons. So this video is a tutorial for my interpretation of the pattern. This website does not show anything about headbands and the video keeps hanging in very specific spots.
I've made loads for people now but most people ask that it be thicker (as in width)... For adults at least, it's not wide enough. Any suggestions? I thought to just add another set of triple TR's around but would love some ideas anyone? Thanks 💕

Im having a really hard time understanding how you attach to the first flower, mine gets very twisted and mangled.. I wish you would've laid it out to see it better 😔 i cant get it at all..
Just saying i did too! I found it easier to do it from left to right .
So I basically did 4 petal, then started attaching ON THE LEFT TOP CORNER by the same method she said. & Then carry on attaching & finish off as normal.

Not a bother at all! I'm not sure if I understand the question; if you want to add a sixth flower, you will connect it to your previous flowers in the same manner as you connect 2 to 1, 3 to 2, 4 to 3, etc. Is that what you were wanting to know? Sorry if I misunderstood!
@@CraftersAutonomous Thank you, sorry I meant instead of 8 PETALS in the motif, only 6 petals! 🙄 I don't know if that's possible. Its just I'm using 3-ply yarn which is a little thicker thus the petals tend to squish! 😬
@@akakonoha That sounds like a cool idea to try! I think it might make the motifs more rectangle than square. If you did 6 petals, I would do a few extra chain stitches in place of the two left out petals so it didn't become lopsided. Sorry I don't have a better idea, but if you give it a try I'd love to hear how it goes!

Tl;dr - yes, you should be good to use a 2.25mm hook!
So this is something I should have been more clear about in my video! Unfortunately, crochet hook manufacturers have some inconsistencies in their sizing. What one company calls a size J hook for instance might be 6mm while what another company calls a size J hook might be 6.25. Even within the same brand, they sometimes change the mm sizing that goes with the letter size! (stares in frustration at Boye lol) To make matters even more confusing, this is a steel crochet hook. They randomly use numbers for sizing, and those numbers don't correspond directly to mm (meaning a size 1 steel hook is not 1mm).
That's mostly just for educational purposes (and you might already know all this, but sharing just in case 😄) and to say that it's always best to go by mm size for the hook versus a letter or number name. I didn't realize how bad this discrepancy can be when I first started making tutorials, and didn't always share the mm of the hook in my videos.
So to answer your question, you would likely be fine using a 2.25mm hook for this project. I compared the hook I used in this video with my size B 2.25mm hook, and they're very close. The steel hook I used in the video might be *slightly* thinner, but it would be like 2.10mm which shouldn't be enough of a difference to have significant impact. The head of the hook is a bit smaller on the steel hook used in the video than my size B 2.25mm hook. But again, I don't think it would much so much of a difference that the project wouldn't work. This ended up being a much longer answer than I intended, but hopefully it's helpful to you and anyone else wondering the same thing. Thanks for reaching out!

Any size 10 crochet thread should work. You can opt for a different size crochet thread (and smaller hook size) if you wanted. A smaller thread and hook size would make the flower motifs a little smaller while a larger thread and hook size would make the flower motifs a little bigger. Hope this helps!

@@mukeshdesigns448 I think you could get this project to work even if your yarn isn't as thin as mine! I personally like using thin crochet thread because the headband turns out more lacy and delicate. The only impact thicker yarn would have is it would make the project larger overall, both wider and longer. I hope this project goes well for you!

What hook size was that??
I just measured it to check, and it's approximately 1mm. This is a really old hook from my great grandmother and it says "size 1", but I think it corresponds to what we now call a size 12 hook. But regardless of what number/name goes with it, the measurement going around the shaft of the hook is 1mm.
Is it okay if I don't use the hair tie? Would it affect the usability of the headband?
Totally an option to skip the hair tie! The main differences would be it would require extra repeats to make it the same circumference, and it wouldn't have the extra stretch that the elastic provides. So as long as you were okay with those changes, skip the hair tie if that's what you prefer!

Yes! It can get confusing sometimes if it's not clear whether it's a US double crochet or a UK double crochet. :) All my patterns use US terms btw.
