When we think of The Indian Army, the first thoughts that come to our mind is of bravery, valour and war but, there is another aspect to the Indian Army that makes them unbeatable.

(Rtd) Major General Harsha Kakar was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery in Jun 1979 and superannuated in Mar 2015 as a Major General. During his military service, held a variety of appointments in every part of the country including J and K and the North East. He extensively writes for a few newspapers, magazines and online newsletters. I am also a security analyst on India Today TV, Aaj Tak, DD UP, and other small channels. His articles span a wide spectrum covering international relations, strategic threats (both military and non-military with emphasis on South Asia), defense planning and capacity building, national security and politico-military cooperation.

My UA-cam feed list is filled with political messages, with people flinging shit at one another. However, this one was like a breath of fresh air! It felt so nice listening to the good general talking about how we must be our brothers keepers, our sisters keepers. Such a wonderful gentleman! Despite his high rank and achievements, he is explaining to us young people the right way to live our lives! Despite breaking into tears midway, not once did he quiver, not once did he falter. He was composed and dignified! He’s that kind, wise man that we youngsters need in our lives. I envy those officers and soldiers who had the good fortune of serving under him.

There is an excellent story how military care for its men.
Longtime back one airman was serving somewhere in a remote part of NE. He was getting hair cut. After hair cut he noticed drop of blood oozed out from the corner of eyes. The barbar and other people gathered around him. There was another airman who was asked to shoot stray dog, by seeing the commotion he came near and straight away asked for ambulance. In the sick quarter the shooter, insisted that the airman got hit with a stray pellets. Because of his insistence the airman was airlifted by helicopter to Shillong then by aircraft to Delhi. Subsequently he got operated upon. And thus Indian Airforce made a history by moving an unassuming IAF personnel to hospital few thousand kms. away promptly and saved his eye, life.
