RadExpand 5 - RANGE TEST How Far on a SINGLE CHARGE?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- Testing out the Rad Expand 5, Rad Power Bikes' new folding ebike, to see how far it will go on a full battery charge. (672wh)
I weigh about 220lbs, carrying an extra 10lbs of gear, using mostly PAS 2 & 3.
Trying to do as typical of a ride as I can.

Wow, thank you!
@@PedalWithPower Most ebike content creators can't/don't ride long enough to drain the battery in a commuter style. They also aren't as detailed and descriptive with their experience, i.e. the way you spoke about how the level of pedal assistance dropped off more and more, when the battery level was low. People need to know you can't rely on 100% of the battery, because after roughly 30%, the ebike starts to protect itself. It's ideal to have a battery with enough capacity to finish your rides with 25%-30% remaining.
would like to see a throttle only, zero pedaling test. See how it performs for the truly lazy rider
Already filmed Craig, just have to edit and should be up tomorrow 👍
Problem with that is with any "serious" hills, you will need to put 100watts or so in, otherwise the motor will completely cut out. Not sure if that's a feature of the controller or the motor is actually not capable of throttle only up hills.
I actually got around the same range of distance to days ago when I rode from Jersey City New Jersey to Fort Lee New Jersey and over into New York City via the George Washington Bridge, followed by a nearly 10 mile ride into downtown Manhattan from Washington heights. Sue reserve enough power to return home, I took the New York waterway ferry back into Jersey City and was able to make it home with one unit of battery life left as it flashed. Exactly everything you have shown is spot on accurate to what I assessed as well
That's sounds like one heck of a ride. Good job! 👍
I see you working eBro Subbed good luck on ya road to 1000 to 10,000 very inspiring
Thanks, T2! Much appreciated
Hi.
Question about range.
Do you think if you ride the Expand 5 in Assist 2 and use the gears 1-7 the range would be longer then using a higher Assist level?
I understand weight, size of person, terrain can affect range. But I was wondering if the bike uses more battery faster once you use the higher Assists?
Thanks
Bob
This is why I bought the Rad Mini 4 than the Lectric 2.0, don't want range anxiety.
Good point Raven, I did a range test on the Lectric in all PAS 3 and it was 14 miles. This blows that out of the water. I'll be doing some comparison videos in the near future to help folks decide which ebike might work best for them.
I like having lots of range, though 👍
I've got a radmini 4 and my wife a radmini st, we easily do 30+ miles on PAS 3 all the time.
I bought both lectric 2.0 and radmini 4 -, Radmini lasts longer
@@spivaks1 with radpower dropping the mini line I think sales if the lectric xp will go up.
I did a range test with my Radcity 4. I went 66km(41 miles) when I dicide to stop the test. The 4th(of 5) bars was on and off. So maybe I had about 10-15% battery left. I was mostly in peddal assist 2 and 3, sometime 4.
Excellent 👍 It's always good to know how far you can go
I've gotten 57 miles on a charge (Rad Mini ST 2), using PAS 1-2, very little throttle, flat roads/paths with not much elevation gain/loss. Yesterday I rode 47 miles (starting with a full charge), with 1,127 elevation gain, and about 15 miles against strong headwinds; ended the ride with 3 bars! I've also found that once you get down to 3 or 2 bars it really drops fast and at one bar there is almost no power in PAS and no throttle power.
Thanks Marianne! That's impressive. At my weight, not a chance at that range 😁
@@PedalWithPower Of course, rider's weight does make a difference, but I'm 175# so no Skinny Minnie myself! Still, I find the RAD's battery range pretty darn good, especially if you just use lower PAS levels and minimal throttle power.
@Marianne. £ That's a pound key. # that's called a hash key.
The # symbol is understood to indicate pounds (as in weight) in Standard American English.
How tall are you ? I am 6’0” and Wonder if the 5’10” max stated on their website is accurate to get that proper leg extension
I'm 6'4" and had to modify my Expand. At 6' you should be ok with the saddle all the way up. Depends more on your leg length. The Expand is not a very tall bike.
With an ebike it doesn't have to fit perfect, but you do want enough leg extension.
I've got a Lectric Lite and the range expands as I get stronger. On my first day my range was about 35 miles. Now my range is over 45 miles and I have battery left. I still need electric help on the hills, but in the past I had to get off and push up the hills coming back home. I stay in PAS 2.
I am 6’ as well weigh 220. Do you have good leg extension with the seat post that comes with the bike. Really want one of these but that is a concern
What's the link to those gloves?
Here's my video - ua-cam.com/video/B52NZXqQ3TI/v-deo.html Links are in the description
how is it to pedal without charge
You can do it, but I would not want to have far to go.
Any idea what to do to increase the speed?
11 tooth freewheel- good luck finding a quality unit. EggRider should prevent the motor from cutting out at higher speeds too.
how tall are you
I'm 6'4". This bike is small for me. I changed the stem and seatpost out for longer ones.
@@PedalWithPower yeah heard it was for 5.5 foot people I think I will get a longer steam I really like the look of the bike
@@hugejobbie I would say around 5'10" with the stock seatpost and stem
Espin Nesta got 29 mi on Pass 5.
Fantastic!
I've gone 28 miles on RadMini 4 on a mostly flat bike trail using mainly PAS 1 and dropped only 2 bars.
Thanks Treezza, that's impressive!
