Too early mate, don't go off what your seeing on the net,3rd week in April as always been my start date.i always try to go when the weather is over 10 degrees at night this stops birds getting egg bound.hope you turn things round 👍
Hi Tony, the birds aren't quiet there yet, appart from the birds that are sitting eggs, I would put mesh dividers up , separating cocks off from the hens, but they still see each other, id leave them luke this for a few weeks, after 1st week put nesting material on front of cage for hens, if hens are ready to go to nest and start building , let them , but leave cocks separated off still , once nest is getting close to be complete, bairing in mind some hens can build up in 1 daily? Pull divider leave pair together ,( basically keep the cocks keen) if the cock is being troublesome ie while hen is sitting then separate him again with wire divider , once chicks have hatched after 4 reintroduce him again , he should start feeding the hen on nest or even better feed chicks also, if he keeps being troublesome , then split him off again?? Your problem could be hens comeing into condition before the cocks, or visa versa? Things will change when temp picks up, brighter daylight hrs? But split them all off left in pairs but with wire dividers, keep them cocks keen , also be careful not to put weight on the birds, all the very best with your season,
Keep it going Tony I know it’s disappointing. I think most lads are having a nightmare this season my birds aren’t doing anything either. I’m in the same boat as you and I think there is a lot of guys in the same boat so just keep going it will turn out in the end.
Yh that's it mate 👍 I just thought I'd put a video out so people don't think it's simple breeding birds lol. It will be OK when we have some better weather
Exactly the same problem I’m having Tony, a couple of weeks before Easter had 2 pairs of Fifes on 4 eggs each, turns out they were all clear, got them going again around Easter along with another couple of pairs starting & they are all laying the odd single egg each & nothing else. Same with my Glosters, laid an egg one day, nothing the following day then an odd second egg a couple of days later, then last Wednesday I had a Gloster hen lay her first egg, nothing on Thursday & I found her dead on the double breeder floor yesterday morning, really not sure what is happening this year but will keep going 👍
I wonder whether our hot/ cold spells are putting them off? I'm sure they'll come round for you, my latest video had a 'plan B' section, we prepare the room and the birds and they don't read the spec!
I had a bird build her nest more than 2 weeks ago. She only started laying two days ago, I think that they each have their own internal clock that probably needs time to respond and sync up with whatever environment you place them in, they don't really have a choice of that themselves. I also have a cock bird that interferes with his hen sitting on the nest so she doesn't sit much but gets very upset if I take him away; your own cocks may also be a reason as to why some of your hens aren't sitting. I'm a beginner myself, I really like your channel and I think that you have some gorgeous canaries so I hope that it works for and I am sure that it will :)
Some of the birds could be 2nd round or even later from last season and not fully developed into breeding it's surprising what a difference 2 to3 weeks can do
Hi mate I'm on 15 to 16 hours of light and I've been giving them pearl morbide and egg food with calcium powder and fertility powder ect. I'm a bit scared with the soak seed because it's my first season I didn't want to get it wrong lol
My shed door is open from 6am to 8pm and that is if its freezing raining or bitter cold.its about changing the environment in your bird shed daily.dont be frighted to leave the doors open as long as its hawk safe 👍
What you wanna do. Tony is what the next bird has a last egg. Take the cockbird away unless we re open. Then I'll be having my more success going that way.
Sorry Tony. Keeping the birds can be a real bugger. Its hard at times but there are always better times ahead. I believe weather patterns have changed and the spring starts much later. This is why we haven't seen the swallows of swifts yet. The way things are going spring starts in May lol.. madness. Seems a lot of the guys are having an equally shitty start. Hang in there pal. it will get better.
Feel for you mate, l don't think you are doing anything wrong because it's happening across the country, the older breeders use to say it's not the weather, but now days l think it is, climate change l,m not sure but something is not right my fifes are OK at the moment but they wanting to build another nest when the chicks are not old enough, my old dad use to say you will never understand birds, all we can do is keep trying because a true birdman will not give up and things will improve, so keep your chin up Tony Phil Grantham. 😊
It pisses me right off..i know exactly how you feel...duna worry tho.dont stresss about um...its still early..weather is shite..be ok 💪
Cheers mate it will pick up when the better weather comes

Are you feeding them soaked seed Tony it’s by far the best way to condition the birds also how many hours of light are you on at the moment
