    With the announcement that AAC schools are unlikely to join do you still like this move for Boise State over staying in the MW and forcing OSU/WSU to join the conference?

    • @Mozenator
      @Mozenator Місяць тому +2

      Yet to be seen. We have no idea who's talking in shady rooms and through back channels. If we can raid whatever's left and reach at least 8 teams, OSU & WSU are bigger brands and better programs than anyone left in the MW. I grew up in Boise, but graduated high school in Pullman. Cougar Nation goes hard, even when they were at the bottom of the barrel. Honestly they're between admirable and obnoxious. As for the Beavers, if they can complete their ongoing facilities expansion, and not have another top tier coach fired for... misconduct. They will continue on their impressive upward trajectory.
      UNLV would've been awesome primarily because of Vegas and Allegiant stadium. However I completely agree with your criticism that UNLV has, comparatively, no local support/fans.
      I have no idea how complex the academies approval process for moving conferences is, so I already counted AF out.

      @Mozenator I think she'll give a sweetheart deal to get Boise State back in the MW. Colorado State and Fresno State will likely have to pay a small symbolic fee to come back. San Diego State is probably the most screwed, they have bad blood with Gloria from before when they gave an intent to leave the conference a couple of years ago. They'll either have to pay through the nose to go back or be left out of the Mountain West. We will see what actually happens.

    Conpare the Massey rankings for football and basketball teams n the new Pac12 vs the MWC and AAC. The Pac 12 is better than all other G5 conferences. Sure, it is a leap into the unknown, without guarantees, but worth the risk. Gary Parish said Memphis made a mistake by not joining the Pac 12. BSU needs to position itself for the future. I see that we get to 9 teams out of the MWC and lose the boat anchor that is Hawaii for sure. My other votes for which teams to let go are Nevada and maybe SJSU. However, I can see a scenario where SJSU makes it in but Wyoming doesn't. From there go back to the AAC teams with a much improved offer now that they avoided exit and poaching fees. If they still don't come then go after the best we can out of Texas. Think Texas State, UNT maybe UTEP. That gets us into some big markets and the central time zone because you are absolutely right the only way to maintain the top G5 status is to get eastern eyeballs on the brands out here. 80% of the country lives in the east and we don't get any favors from how the time zones work.
    If they don't make the moves to build an eastern arm then its only a matter of time until we are over taken again by the AAC as the top G5. I say again because essentially this is just a rebranded MWC.

      I think its way too soon to say that Memphis isnt interested - the problem is memphis is historically run by morons so they dont have money, and theres no way they can financially justify going to the PAC for worst case 4 years when the ACC splits only to pay $25 million. With travel expenses plus delta between the AAC and the PAC they would have to make $20 million a year on the TV deal with the PAC just to break even.
      Whats far more likely is see the AAC shift going into late 2025, when they realize the ACC is gonna keep going to 2032, and they realize the new AAC deal is gonna ba 1/3 of what it is currently and their buyout is considerably less.
      Or they will just sit on their hands and wait for the ocean of oblivion to carry them into nothing. Not just cuz of conferences - early reports are they undersold season tickets in basketball by 1/2 their stadium capacity and in football by nearly 1/4 their stadium capacity. Their fan base is becoming more disinterested by the year.

      Shit take is absolute shit. 🤷 The Pac-12(/10/8's) historical legacy absolutely DWARFS the Mountain West's, and it's not even CLOSE! The advertising and name recognition value of the former brand is literally magnitudes higher than the later. If they had to pick a brand to continue under, the Pac-12 was the EASY choice.

    Hey. Make the MW implode! That way yall owe zero dollars on exit fees. Then pay half of tulane and Memphis exit fees. Theyll jump. Gonzaga will jump, st marys will jump. And and you make up the exit fees in the AAC by getting in the central time zone. You kill the MW and the AAC in the process. Come on its simple. Yours truly a Memphis fan. We hate our league.
