That's really cool. I am 52yo and learned C++ all by myself in 1991-1992. This led me to code damn cool systems and understand how the system worked under the hood. Fast forward to present day, I am running my own business since 22+ years and everything had been paid by writing code, specs, and stuff related to code in this beauty of a place I would never ever have dreamed of when I was debugging low level concurrent serial port code in the corner of the bedroom. Code is power.
Everytime I feel down, I just come and re-watch this video and it gives me some motivation. Then i go back and try understand WTF is Djikstra Algorithm
@@clowndriver5576 yea I eventually went that route. I went to code bootcamp though. With art it still depends on the kind of art you major in. A lot of people who don’t major in industrial or graphic or interior design are screwed lol
Plus art is sooo saturated. That’s really the point too. I have a ton of friends that went the coding / UI/UX route and couldn’t find a job, hell I barely found one. Now I do 3D rigging which has a higher chance of getting a job :) but I went to school for medical illustration so I had to take extra classes
Could I learn it well enough to get a job, if I only worked 30 hours out of a 4 day work week ( keep in mind at my job we work 10 hour shifts) and spent 6 hours on my days off practicing coding each day for 3 months, studying MOOC’s, and keeping logs of notes?
@@bassplayer807 It depends on many factors. What do you want to learn, where do you want to work, what background do you have and how can you represent yourself? Also how smart are you and how used to teaching yourself are you? Search for a promising technology and start to learn it. Maybe think about a small project you'd like to do and work on it. At the same time you should learn about coding fundamentals and good coding practices. Good luck and keep on it. Learning to code is hard in the beginning, but the longer you keep going the more rewarding it will be :)
Thanks for the advice bro! Im on a similar path, just did 4 years of business and honestly, I feel like if a person wants to study business take micro/macro economics and watch CNBC for 6 months. Alot of business comes down to policies and procedures and studying algorithms and being able to create software puts you in a much more powerful position in a business setting. I'm self studying programming and will use you tips. Thanks again.👍
Great video, inspiring stuff! I chipped away at coding for an hour or two a day for a year before learning full-time for 8 weeks until I get my first job. It's a grind but one I'll never regret
His advices are pretty practical. Grab that book and learn your basics! And drill those leetcode, but 300 of them is too much... 100 should be more than enough as long as your practices are deliberate. If you want those good size company and good salary, you will need those basics and leetcode - unless you have got some super duper awesome unforgettable projects.

Hi, for C++ interviews at these fintech firms, a lot of them would ask questions about the nitty gritty of C++. For example - what is / when would you use a deque vs a vector, and how are they implemented under the hood? - How would you implement a simple consumer/producer program using two threads? Have you ever encountered questions such as these, and what part of your learning process would you say prepared you for these questions? ie. the courses, the pet projects, etc

Your method is exactly what i did but with python (minus books, because python is luckily quite easy and doing pet projects is enough) after a corporate finance degree. Now, i'm leading towards c++ and wanted some guidance and it seems that my initial method could work again, but with a bit more efforts :) I am also strangely confused by the fact that this video has been posted on my birthday haha
Grinding leetcode might be good for passing interviews, but not that helpful in actually being a developer at a company. Doing ten a day just sounds ridiculous. Projects are better for preparing for the actual job.
Who told you to do ten a day. You are right projects are helpful for the actual job but you need to have the job first now don’t you. Unfortunately, that’s how the system is if you aren’t good at data structures and algorithms well good luck with FAANG

You can get good enough for interviews with just doing a couple a day until you're sufficiently good. You're setting people up to think they have to do 10x more work then what's necessary. It largely depends where you're applying. If you want a FAANG job maybe. Anything else, no.
Software development is the best way to get rich, most companies dont care if you have a degree if you are good. Most people dont have the dedication to self teach themselves C++ though.. But at least its not like medical or other fields where there is a ton of gatekeeping and regulation and licensing.

I want to become an artist.... But sad reality is that parents want me to do job and settle just like them.... I completed my graduation this year but it means nothing to me 😖 i am dying inside 💔
Thats the simplest problem ever. Get a job and please your parents so that they'll keep their mouth shut. Hustle after office hours on your art and make it grow so that you earn more than your current job from that side hustle and then switch to it full time. That way your parents won't be dissapointed
Being an artist can be very discouraging, especially with parents who weigh down your creative spirit and choices. I don't have all the answers, but what I can say is if art is what you love then keep your hand moving. Keep being creative best you can, your life will unfold and connect how it's supposed to.
I disagree with your opinion about business degree. When it is combined with another specific skillset, it is a very powerful qualification in the market. The problem is the bias, that a degree = job. No! If you have a specific skillset (coding is a very very powerful weapon to combine it with) then the business/econ degree will be very valuable. There are a LOT of jobs that require business degree and coding/IT skills, or even a secondary degree of some sort. But if you are just wandering around aimlessly, expecting the degree to automatically get a job for you, then you will have a LOT of problems (and you already do, in your head, if you are like this!). However I love your no-nonsense, no-bullshit approach to things, you have just gained a sub! Cheers Important note: I am talking about European education, not American. I think the rules do apply aswell.
The gift that you have, and I'm sure you're aware of this on some level, is that you know what you want (you knew you didn't want to do front-end web development, and that you wanted something specifically related to finance), and you have the drive and the wherewithal to do it. I want to learn to code really mainly to move on from the retail job that I have, and also to hopefully be involved in game development someday. Is there a language you would recommend for that specifically? C++ is intimidating to me and I've also been given to understand that you should really know more than one anyway, so I've already bought a book on Python, but like you, I don't really want to do web development.

The gift that you have, and I'm sure you're aware of this on some level, is that you know what you want (you knew you didn't want to do front-end web development, and that you wanted something specifically related to finance), and you have the drive and the wherewithal to do it. I want to learn to code really mainly to move on from the retail job that I have, and also to hopefully be involved in game development someday. Is there a language you would recommend for that specifically? C++ is intimidating to me and I've also been given to understand that you should really know more than one anyway, so I've already bought a book on Python, but like you, I don't really want to do web development.
