    Kyokushin IS karate. Akimoto rightfully WINS in a kickboxing tournament using karate techniques from the Kyokushin style. I know it's painful to admit for all the karate haters, but it's fact.

    To those who are asking yes he is a Karateka but a Kyokushin based Japanese Style Kickboxer. If you want to see the difference watch Tenshin Nasukawa vs Kyoji Horiguchi. Both have heavy Karate backgrounds but look different using them.

      As you say, it is kickboxing. Some karate mixed into kickboxing may work but focusing on mastering the basics of kickboxing is always the most effective way.

      @@patmanpatmanson you do realize that both Japanese and American Kickboxing evolved directly from Karate and the pipeline of talent is still Karate for the pipeline of talent. So it's not like Taekwondo where you have to master the fundamentals to make it work. 80-90% of what he does is still Karate just optimized for this ruleset and either way he's still a Karateka.

      I dont know what you're talking about. Those two are shotokan based. The difference is Tenshin already adapted in kickboxing, while the other still in delusion by using shotokan stance directly. Lol

      @@enemymine1335 Well Dutch Style kickboxing and Japanese style kickboxing all took there techniques from Kyokushin Karate, which is in my opinion the superior style of all karate.

      @@ferumcastrum4097 We know of course that Kickboxing’s kicking technique is from karate,but base on videos that i watch,Muay Thai has influnce to dutch kickboxing with regards to effectiveness not kyukushin karate(the low kick).l am not a sport historian but i am sure that when dutch kickboxer founded their kickboxing club,they already knew or even encounter MT fighters.

      @@butchreed5764 we would expect Dana to be Dana and say that but realistically speaking One FC has some serious warriors that can match the UFC's best. Ben Askren was a disappointment we all had high hopes he would shine in the UFC but his style was one dimensional and he eventually got caught by an intelligent fighter. Regardless One FC has serious contenders especially in the welterweight and lower weight classes.

    Why there are so many martial artist wanna be here in the comments saying that there's no karate here? Oh my foccin balls. It's kyukushin . A karate style created by the late mas oyama. It's more of a kick boxing style than of a point sparring and this is where Kudo evolved. Karate style with grappling, throws and ground work.

    pretty sure this is kyokushin. It resembles kyokushin but I think he's adopted some kickboxing as well. Kyokushin is the only karate that seems to work tbh. Before someone mentions machida or connor mcgregor, theirs aren't karate either. Machida dad's karate is different and machida himself said he's adopted techniques from other martials are and changed his karate a lot for the ufc, and that traditional karate does not work. He even outright says stuff like kata wont help u fight better. Mcgregor has karate influence earlier on in his career, but still most of his techniques are kickboxing. Later on he changed his entire style to boxer/kickboxing

    Hiroki Sensei is a karateka, and hence his fighting style is legitimately karate. For all the ignorants karate haters out there: Karate is an eclectic family of martial arts. It is in its nature to adapt to new purposes; to evolve, and diversify. And like all grandmasters of the past, Hiroki crosstrained, dropped the techniques that didn't work in kickboxing, and appropiated the techniques that did. Muai Thai, in contrast, it is a static uniform thing. All Muai Thai fighters fight in essentially the same, boring way. Ossu!

      Kyokushin/full contact karate guys call what they train is karate.
      Non contact/point rule guys call what they train is karate.
      More traditional Okinawan karate guys call what they train is karate.

    Anyone doesn't realize that kyokushin always doing kumite with different weight class!!! Put akimoto with a head class fighter and he will fights them all. 100 kumite, non weight class are those kyokushin full contact training and tournament!!! Small guy vs big guy must passed all of them before they get mastered.

      Yeah, but it's not about which karate techniques/move he used. It's more like karate helped his condition. He really calms with low kicks in close distance, while kickboxers usually low kick when they are far. And his low kicks are not traditional Muay Thai low kick. AND karate taught him to be light on his feet. Thats why he is bounding way more than other kickboxers.

      Kyokushin karate with a little bit of boxing, he's not normally that defensive but his opponent is literally named "One punch man" so he had to keep his guard up and in close range in order to avoid knees and kicks

      @@Alexander_S_K Kyokushin does feel more like MMA since it includes Judo, Boxing and 2 other karate styles as it's fundamentals.
      The boxing stance and techniques makes a whole lot of sense as Mas Oyama made it so that it's more effective in today's standards. The Karate is there if you look hard enough.

    For a karate fighter he sure is using a lot of low kicks and inside knees, not karate in my book just look at his form, I am unfamiliar with any version of karate that trains in those strikes or stance. That said he is hella good at what he is doing so keep rocking it.

      The way he sets up his roundhouse kicks are pretty obvious karate to my eyes, power is generated by twisting the waist followed by a snappy follow thru then a quick retrieve, although the roundhouse kicks for both muay Thai and karate are similar, if you've watched long enough you'll notice the difference

    That Japanese karate-background kickboxer fighter is great.But i am being piss off When you people are still complimenting Karate,Muay thai or Wushu(which result to quarelling)…you forget boxing which make other prevail due to superb boxing or atleast in combination thereof.Muay thai,karate and wushu are way less effective without boxing.

      @@ajmjl9102 I don’t agree.I like the art of striking than jujitsu or wresling but in the street i prefer to use boxing,wresling and some jujitsu technique. I have a flexible legs but i think kicking is quite unreliable,it’s only looks awesome in sports.If your shoes is on and there’s a fight,you even feel the need to throw your shoes just to feel more comfortable kicking…thats the reality.

      @@enemymine1335 yes but karate is more than just kicks to the head we have low kicks sweeps joint locks throws trips takedowns of all kinds elbows knees clinch work headbutts and we train mostly bare knuckles or with MMA gloves while boxing trains with 12 oz above gloves which gives a false sense of security and allows for alot of unrealistic techniques like shoulder rolls and encouraging blocking over parrying in a actual fight alot of boxing things can be used while karate has unrealistic elements also it's a much more complete style instead of having to learn 4 MARTIAL ARTS boxers can even check a low kick or defend a takedown or even properly block a body kick

    There's No Karate here at all, he's fighting using mainly kick and Thai boxing techniques.
    On a personal level a karate practitioner in this arena would get schooled senseless.

      Lol someone's salty, that's Kyokushin Karate, one of the most effective styles of Karate, and they fight like this Toe to Toa watch some sparring matches and you'll see.

      yeah he uses real karate as others have stated. not the kind where you get a black belt at the age of 12. Also yes I am a hater of useless striking forms. It's bad for martial arts
